Joe Swanberg (born August 31, 1981) is an American independent director, producer, writer, and actor. Known for micro-budget dramas which make extensive use of improvisation, Swanberg is considered a major figure in the mumblecore film movement. His films often focus on relationships, sex, technology, and the filmmaking process.
Swanberg was born on August 31, 1981 in Detroit, Michigan, and was mostly raised in Georgia and Alabama. He graduated from Naperville Central High School in suburban Chicago and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale as a film major, earning a Bachelor's Degree in 2003.
In 2005, Swanberg directed his first feature, Kissing on the Mouth. He followed it with LOL (2006), which marked Swanberg's first time working with actress Greta Gerwig. Gerwig and Swanberg collaborated on the director's next two features: Hannah Takes the Stairs (2007), which also starred filmmakers Andrew Bujalski, Ry Russo-Young, and Mark Duplass and marked Swanberg's first collaboration with animator and actor Kent Osborne; and Nights and Weekends (2008), on which Gerwig shared a directing credit. Swanberg's next feature, Alexander the Last, was produced by Noah Baumbach, who would later cast Gerwig opposite Ben Stiller in his 2010 film Greenberg.
Drinking Buddies is a 2013 American film written and directed by Joe Swanberg, and starring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston. The film is about two co-workers at a craft brewery in Chicago.
The film premiered at the 2013 South by Southwest Film Festival, and also screened within Maryland Film Festival 2013.
Kate (Olivia Wilde) and Luke (Jake Johnson) are co-workers at Chicago craft brewery Revolution Brewing, where they spend their days drinking and goofing off. They are perfect for each other, except that they are both in relationships: Kate is with Chris (Ron Livingston), and Luke is with Jill (Anna Kendrick). Jill presses Luke about marriage, which he promises he will be able to talk about some time soon.
While Luke and Kate are drinking with co-workers at the bar, Jill and Chris also arrive and Chris invites Luke and Jill to join them for a trip to his family's cottage.
During the trip Jill and Chris go for a long hike in the woods, where they end up kissing. Luke and Kate spend the whole trip drinking and staying up late alone together, including a bonfire on the beach. Kate invites Luke to go skinny dipping before stripping off her clothes and running into the lake.

Jake Johnson (born Mark Jake Johnson Weinberger; May 28, 1978) is an American actor, comedian and director, most commonly known for playing Nick Miller in the Fox comedy series New Girl opposite Zooey Deschanel, for which he has received a Teen Choice Award nomination among others. Johnson also co-starred in the 2009 film Paper Heart and the 2012 film Safety Not Guaranteed, as well as appearing in Get Him to the Greek, 21 Jump Street, and Jurassic World. His first starring role in a feature film was Drinking Buddies, and he also starred in the 2014 comedy Let's Be Cops, alongside fellow New Girl star Damon Wayans, Jr.
Johnson was born in Evanston, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, the son of Eve Johnson, an artist who made stained glass windows, and Ken Weinberger, who owned a car dealership. He was named after his maternal uncle, Mark Johnson, who died at the age of 26 in a motorcycle accident in 1977, a year before Jake was born. Jake's father is from an Ashkenazi Jewish family, while his mother's ancestry is English, Irish, and Polish Catholic. His parents divorced when he was two, and he and his older siblings, brother Dan and sister Rachel, were raised by his single mother. Johnson then took his mother's last name during high school. Johnson has stated that since his 20s, his father has resurfaced and now they are close.
Ti West (born October 5, 1980) is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, editor, cinematographer, and occasional actor, best known for his work in horror films. He directed the horror films The Roost (2005), The House of the Devil (2009), The Innkeepers (2011), The Sacrament (2013), and the upcoming Western In a Valley of Violence (2016). He has also acted in a number of films, mostly in those directed by either himself or Joe Swanberg.
West was born in Wilmington, Delaware. He was featured in a 2001 fall issue of Teen People magazine. He attended The School of Visual Arts.
West's directorial work includes the 2001 short The Wicked, and feature films The Roost (2005), Trigger Man (2007), The House of the Devil (2009),The Innkeepers (2011), and The Sacrament (2013). He appeared in 2004's The Woman Who Split Before Dinner as Old Man Conrad. In 2009, West wrote, produced and directed the web series Dead & Lonely for IFC Films. The first series run ended in October 2009. West disowned the 2009 horror film Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, citing massive studio interference and re-editing as the reasons. He wanted the studio to remove his name completely from the film and give directing credit to Alan Smithee, but his request was denied.

Joe Swanberg is an American independent filmmaker, often associated and credited with helping pioneer the "mumblecore" film movement. He's made a career of producing/ directing/ writing micro-budgeted films, often acting in his own features as well as enlisting his friends to help out. Much of the dialogue in his films is improvised, although he recently has begun to redefine himself by challenging the very parameters of what would typically define the "mumblecore" style. Many of Joe Swanberg's films have done the indie film festival circuit, and even been prominently featured by IFC and the Sundance Channel. To learn more about Joe Swanberg visit www.joeswanberg.com/

An in-depth interview with director Joe Swanberg (Drinking Buddies, All the Light in the Sky, Silver Bullets, Hannah Takes the Stairs, Autoerotic). http://www.theseventhart.org Joe Swanberg is a Chicago-based filmmaker who is commonly associated with the so-called mumblecore mode of filmmaking - a term assigned to low-budget American films made in the 2000s that were singled out for their naturalism. For Swanberg, this is often achieved through improvisational performances, digital photography and frank depictions of sex. Following his 2005 debut, Kissing on the Mouth, Swanberg embarked on a string of at least one film a year until 2010, three of which featured Greta Gerwig (culminating in their co-directed Nights and Weekends).
