Esta irlandesa nacida en Dublín en 1974 es una de las sensaciones musicales del momento, auténtica revitalizadora del rockabilly, fusionado acertadamente con elementos del jazz, el blues o el soul. Sin duda, irresistible.
Estamos ante una artista singular, con una estética peculiar y rebosante de sensualidad y que, además de cantar con una voz espléndida, toca el bodhrán (un tipo de tambor irlandés) y compone sus propias canciones. Imelda May busca sus influencias fuera de su Irlanda natal, y las encuentra en el rock & roll (Buddy Holly o Eddie Cochran), el blues (Elmore James) y el jazz (Billie Holiday). En 2008 publica Love tattoo, un éxito de crítica y público en Irlanda, donde llega a lo más alto de las listas de ventas y le impulsa para conseguir en 2009 el premio a la mejor cantante femenina en los Meteor Awards. En 2010 aparece Mayhem, que también alcanza el número uno. Últimamente es habitual de diversos festivales y conciertos, compartiendo escenario y gira con artistas como Jeff Beck o Jamie Cullum.

Uno de los guitarristas más influyentes y carismáticos en la historia del rock, principalmente por su seminal trabajo con los Yardbirds y su diversidad de estilos.
Tras pasar por la Escuela de Arte Wimbledon Art de Londres, Jeff Beck (nacido el 24 de junio de 1944 en Surrey) comenzó profesionalmente en el mundo de la música con una banda denominada The Tridents. Su gran oportunidad llegó cuando Eric Clapton abandonó los Yardbirds en 1965 al entender que éstos se alejaban del blues y acogían sonidos más comerciales.
La entrada de Beck en el grupo abrió nuevas perspectivas para la formación inglesa con su imaginativo estilo, convirtiendo a la banda en pioneros del pop-rock psicodélico y espejos del garaje americano con sus innovaciones en la distorsión y el feedback.
También Beck decidió dejar a los Yardbirds en 1966 para formar un nuevo grupo al que llamó Jeff Beck Group, conjunto en el que se hallaban los futuros Faces, Rod Stewart y Ron Wood, junto al teclista Nicky Hopkins y el batería Aynsley Dunbar, quien fue reemplazado por Mickey Waller.
Antes de ello y con Mickey Most como productor, Jeff había grabado un sencillo de pop que había sido muy bien acogido en las listas de ventas británicas, "Hi-Ho Silver Lining".
Con el Jeff Beck Group, el guitarrista de Surrey adoptó un sonido rocoso y poderoso basado en el blues-rock.
Sus actuaciones en directo eran acogidas con entusiasmo. Junto a ellas, la banda publicó dos esenciales Lps, "Truth" (1968) y "Beck-Ola" (1969), ambos producidos por Mickey Most. En 1970 el grupo dejó de existir.
Después de sufrir un accidente de coche que impidió la creación del supertrío Beck, Bogert y Appice con los miembros de Vanilla Fudge Tim Bogert y Carmine Appice, Jeff reformó el Jeff Beck Group con nuevos componentes, reclutando al cantante Bobby Tench, al bajista Clive Chapman, al batería Cozy Powell y al teclista Max Middleton.
"Rouge and ready" (1971) fue el primer Lp del nuevo proyecto, un trabajo que no logró vender demasiado en Gran Bretaña a pesar de su atractiva mezcla entre jazz, funk y rock.
"The Jeff Beck Group" (1972), un álbum producido por Steve Cropper, tampoco logró llamar la atención de prensa y público, lo que dio pie a Beck a la unión final con Appice y Bogert, quienes habían comenzado una trayectoria previa con Cactus.

Tras un álbum en vivo en 1977 grabado con Jan Hammer, Beck publicó trabajos muy de vez en cuando, sin retornar a los estudios hasta la década de los 80.
Su nuevo disco, co-producido con Ken Scot, llevó el título de "There and back" (1980), un álbum continuado por Lps como "Flash" (1985), disco producido por Nile Rodgers y Arthur Baker que le volvía a asociar con Rod Stewart en una versión de "People get ready" y "Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop" (1989), uno de los mejores trabajos en la última etapa de su carrera que le deparó un premio Grammy.

Imelda Mary Higham (born Imelda Mary Clabby on 10 July 1974), professionally known as Imelda May, is an Irish musician and singer-songwriter. Born and raised in The Liberties area of Dublin, May began her career in music at age sixteen—performing with a number of local bands and musicians— before forming her own band in 2002. She released her debut studio album, No Turning Back, in 2003 and relocated to London, United Kingdom with husband and guitarist Darrel Higham after its release. Following an appearance on the BBC music programme Later... with Jools Holland in 2008, she released her second studio album, Love Tattoo (2009). May collaborated and toured with a number of artists following its release. Her similarly-received third studio album, Mayhem, was released in 2010 and earned her a nomination for the Choice Music Prize.
Although known primarily as a singer, May also plays the bodhrán, guitar and tambourine. Described as "a unique vocal talent," May is known for her musical style of rockabilly revival and has also been compared to female jazz musicians such as Billie Holiday. She won the Best Female Artist of the Year award at the 2009 Meteor Awards.

Tras pasar por la Escuela de Arte Wimbledon Art de Londres, Jeff Beck (nacido el 24 de junio de 1944 en Surrey) comenzó profesionalmente en el mundo de la música con una banda denominada The Tridents. Su gran oportunidad llegó cuando Eric Clapton abandonó los Yardbirds en 1965 al entender que éstos se alejaban del blues y acogían sonidos más comerciales.
La entrada de Beck en el grupo abrió nuevas perspectivas para la formación inglesa con su imaginativo estilo, convirtiendo a la banda en pioneros del pop-rock psicodélico y espejos del garaje americano con sus innovaciones en la distorsión y el feedback.
También Beck decidió dejar a los Yardbirds en 1966 para formar un nuevo grupo al que llamó Jeff Beck Group, conjunto en el que se hallaban los futuros Faces, Rod Stewart y Ron Wood, junto al teclista Nicky Hopkins y el batería Aynsley Dunbar, quien fue reemplazado por Mickey Waller.
Antes de ello y con Mickey Most como productor, Jeff había grabado un sencillo de pop que había sido muy bien acogido en las listas de ventas británicas, "Hi-Ho Silver Lining".
Con el Jeff Beck Group, el guitarrista de Surrey adoptó un sonido rocoso y poderoso basado en el blues-rock.
Sus actuaciones en directo eran acogidas con entusiasmo. Junto a ellas, la banda publicó dos esenciales Lps, "Truth" (1968) y "Beck-Ola" (1969), ambos producidos por Mickey Most. En 1970 el grupo dejó de existir.
Después de sufrir un accidente de coche que impidió la creación del supertrío Beck, Bogert y Appice con los miembros de Vanilla Fudge Tim Bogert y Carmine Appice, Jeff reformó el Jeff Beck Group con nuevos componentes, reclutando al cantante Bobby Tench, al bajista Clive Chapman, al batería Cozy Powell y al teclista Max Middleton.
"Rouge and ready" (1971) fue el primer Lp del nuevo proyecto, un trabajo que no logró vender demasiado en Gran Bretaña a pesar de su atractiva mezcla entre jazz, funk y rock.
"The Jeff Beck Group" (1972), un álbum producido por Steve Cropper, tampoco logró llamar la atención de prensa y público, lo que dio pie a Beck a la unión final con Appice y Bogert, quienes habían comenzado una trayectoria previa con Cactus.
El terceto no consiguió llegar tampoco a conclusiones válidas y otro interesante proyecto de Jeff acabó viniéndose abajo.
"Blow by blow" (1975), un gran Lp blues-rock con retazos jazz producido por George Martin, al igual que "Wired" (1976), fueron dos importantes obras de un Jeff Beck totalmente recuperado.
Tras un álbum en vivo en 1977 grabado con Jan Hammer, Beck publicó trabajos muy de vez en cuando, sin retornar a los estudios hasta la década de los 80.
Su nuevo disco, co-producido con Ken Scot, llevó el título de "There and back" (1980), un álbum continuado por Lps como "Flash" (1985), disco producido por Nile Rodgers y Arthur Baker que le volvía a asociar con Rod Stewart en una versión de "People get ready" y "Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop" (1989), uno de los mejores trabajos en la última etapa de su carrera que le deparó un premio Grammy.
