Incredible photo emerges of bouncy castle flying through air at Kalgoorlie races

Incredible photos have emerged of a bouncy castle flying through the air at a race meet in Kalgoorlie on Sunday - fortunately with nobody aboard.

Amazingly, nobody was injured when the bouncy castle was torn from its moorings and tossed more than 300 metres from near the main straight at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder race meet.

There was a moment of panic when a Racing Gaming and Wagering steward dived into the inflatable castle and tried to deflate it with a rock when he saw what looked like a small child bobbing up and down as the inflatable took flight.

It turned out to be a "pirate figure" in the castle.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club CEO Tim Beaver said seeing the Jump 4 Us Party Hire castle airborne was "very scary".

"It was lucky that no one was on it at the time," he told WAtoday.

"And fortunate a race was not on at the time.

"It was quite scary and potentially could have been very serious."

In a strange coincidence, the race day was sponsored by St John Ambulance and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Mr Beaver said a freakish storm swept over the race course about 2.30pm and caught everyone off guard.

"Strong winds came from nowhere and pulled up the bouncy castle from its footings," he said.

"Luckily the operator pre-empted what was going to happen and got everybody off.

"It came loose from the air compressor so there was air coming out of it and luckily it ended up in a dip behind the course.

"We managed to secure it with some rocks."

Mr Beaver said he was planning to meet with owners of Jump 4 Us Party Hire to find out what actually happened.

In March a seven-year-old British girl died, after a bouncy castle she was playing on was flung through the air at a fair in Essex.

In 2001, six-year-old Jessica Gorostiaga was killed in a freak bouncy castle accident at the Kapunda Harness Racing Club meet in Adelaide in 2001.
