Tokyo Shinjuku Gyoen - 新宿御苑 - 4K Ultra HD
Credited as one of the most beautiful parks in Tokyo, Shinjuku Gyoen is definitely another place to enjoy when visiting Tokyo. The garden was completed in 1772 and was the original residence of the Naitō family during the Edo era.
It became a botanical garden in 1906 until it went through a complete reconstruction in 1949. Unfortunately you must pay a small entry fee to access Shinjuku Gyoen but it features many interesting activities. These include a French formal garden, an English landscaped garden with a stunning view of Shinjuku and Tokyo Tower, a greenhouse, a tea house, and a traditional Japanese garden. Last but not least, the park is home to and four magnificent ponds : Shimo no Ike, Naka no ike, Kami no ike and Haha to ko no mori.
Shinjuku Gyoen is just a gorgeous park and you will need several hours to fully enjoy it alone or with your loved ones!

And I write "autumn" because that's what the calendar says, but with the relatively high temperatures and blue sky we're still enjoying here, it feels more like a good European summer. - Enjoy!

One of the sure signs of spring in Japan is the blossoming of the cherry blossoms. Every spring millions of people across the country turn out to celebrate the fleeting beauty of the sakura.
Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the largest and most popular parks in Tokyo and known not only for its spacious lawns and tranquil scenery, but for its beautiful sakura blossoms in spring. Shinjuku Gyoen originated during the Edo Period (1603-1867) as a feudal lord's Tokyo residence and was later on transferred to the Imperial family, who used it for recreation and entertainment. It was almost completely destroyed during the second World War, but was rebuilt and reopened in 1949 as a public park.
The park has three different types of gardens: the traditional Japanese landscape garden, which consists of large ponds with islands and bridges and the French garden and the English landscape garden which feature wide, open lawns surrounded by flowering cherry trees. There is a good amount of benches and tables in the park to enjoy a picnic. The rest of the park has forested areas, as well as a greenhouse with a variety of tropical and subtropical flowers.
Shinjuku Gyoen is also a popular destination during autumn, because of the different types of trees that change colors in autumn. There are more than a dozen different varieties of cherry trees, and more than 400 somei yoshino trees around the English garden, making the area as a popular hanami spot.
If you're planning to visit, the park has three gates: Shinjuku Gate, Okido Gate and the Sendagaya Gate. Shinjuku Gate is a ten minute walk from the new south exit of JR Shinjuku Station and a five minute walk from Shinjukugyoenmae Station on the Marunouchi Subway Line. Okido is five minutes away from Shinjukugyoenmae Station on the Marunouchi Subway Line while Sendagaya Gate is also five minutes away from HR Sendagay Station on the local Chuo/Sobu Line. The park is open from 9AM to 4:30PM and is closed on Mondays except during the cherry blossom season.

Shinjuku Gyoen
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (新宿御苑, Shinjuku Gyoen) is a large park with an eminent garden in Shinjuku and Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally a residence of the Naitō family in the Edo period. Afterwards, it became a garden under the management of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. It is now a park under the jurisdiction of the national Ministry of the Environment.
History
The shogun bequeathed this land to Lord Naitō (daimyo) of Tsuruga in the Edo period who completed a garden here in 1772. After the Meiji Restoration the house and its grounds were converted into an experimental agricultural centre. It then became a botanical garden before becoming an imperial garden in 1879. The current configuration of the garden was completed in 1906. Most of the garden was destroyed by air raids in 1945, during the later stages of World War II. The garden was rebuilt after the war.
The jurisdiction over the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and the Kyoto imperial garden was transferred to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (now part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) in 1947.

Tokyo Shinjuku Gyoen - 新宿御苑 - 4K Ultra HD
Credited as one of the most beautiful parks in Tokyo, Shinjuku Gyoen is definitely another place to enjoy when visiting Tokyo. The garden was completed in 1772 and was the original residence of the Naitō family during the Edo era.
It became a botanical garden in 1906 until it went through a complete reconstruction in 1949. Unfortunately you must pay a small entry fee to access Shinjuku Gyoen but it features many interesting activities. These include a French formal garden, an English landscaped garden with a stunning view of Shinjuku and Tokyo Tower, a greenhouse, a tea house, and a traditional Japanese garden. Last but not least, the park is home to and four magnificent ponds : Shimo no Ike, Naka no ike, Kami no ike and Haha to ko no mori.
Shinjuku Gyoen is just a gorgeous park and you will need several hours to fully enjoy it alone or with your loved ones!

One of the sure signs of spring in Japan is the blossoming of the cherry blossoms. Every spring millions of people across the country turn out to celebrate the fleeting beauty of the sakura.
Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the largest and most popular parks in Tokyo and known not only for its spacious lawns and tranquil scenery, but for its beautiful sakura blossoms in spring. Shinjuku Gyoen originated during the Edo Period (1603-1867) as a feudal lord's Tokyo residence and was later on transferred to the Imperial family, who used it for recreation and entertainment. It was almost completely destroyed during the second World War, but was rebuilt and reopened in 1949 as a public park.
The park has three different types of gardens: the traditional Japanese landscape garden, which consists of large ponds with islands and bridges and the French garden and the English landscape garden which feature wide, open lawns surrounded by flowering cherry trees. There is a good amount of benches and tables in the park to enjoy a picnic. The rest of the park has forested areas, as well as a greenhouse with a variety of tropical and subtropical flowers.
Shinjuku Gyoen is also a popular destination during autumn, because of the different types of trees that change colors in autumn. There are more than a dozen different varieties of cherry trees, and more than 400 somei yoshino trees around the English garden, making the area as a popular hanami spot.
If you're planning to visit, the park has three gates: Shinjuku Gate, Okido Gate and the Sendagaya Gate. Shinjuku Gate is a ten minute walk from the new south exit of JR Shinjuku Station and a five minute walk from Shinjukugyoenmae Station on the Marunouchi Subway Line. Okido is five minutes away from Shinjukugyoenmae Station on the Marunouchi Subway Line while Sendagaya Gate is also five minutes away from HR Sendagay Station on the local Chuo/Sobu Line. The park is open from 9AM to 4:30PM and is closed on Mondays except during the cherry blossom season.
