Lima

Lima /ˈliːmə/ is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, in the central coastal part of the country, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Together with the seaport of Callao, it forms a contiguous urban area known as the Lima Metropolitan Area. With a population of almost 10 million, Lima is the most populous metropolitan area of Peru, and the third largest city in the Americas (as defined by "city proper"), just behind São Paulo and Mexico City.

Lima was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, as Ciudad de los Reyes. It became the capital and most important city in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru. Following the Peruvian War of Independence, it became the capital of the Republic of Peru. Today, around one-third of the Peruvian population lives in the metropolitan area.

Lima is home to one of the oldest higher learning institutions in the New World. The National University of San Marcos, founded on May 12 of 1551, during Spanish colonial regime, is the oldest continuously functioning university in the Americas.

Martijn Garritsen (born 14 May 1996), commonly known by his stage name Martin Garrix (by his logo Mar+in Garri×), is a Dutch DJ, composer, musician and record producer. He is best known for the track "Animals", which was a top 10 hit in more than 10 countries; the song has peaked at number 1 in Belgium and the United Kingdom, and number 3 in Ireland. His single "Wizard", produced with Jay Hardway, was successful in numerous countries in 2014. Debuting at number 40 of DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs, he is currently ranked number 3, behind Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Hardwell.

Career

Martin Garrix learned to play guitar at age 8. In 2004, Martin Garrix expressed interest in becoming a DJ after seeing Tiësto perform at the Olympic games in Athens. Garritsen took particular inspiration from the track "Traffic", prompting him to download specialist software and enabling him to start composing. In 2013, Garritsen graduated from the Herman Brood Academy, a production school in Utrecht. Martin Garrix used multiple aliases, among them GRX. He ghost writes tracks for other artists, and despite this, only one in fifty of his tracks have made it out to the public.

A remix is a piece of media which has been altered from its original state by adding, removing, and/or changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, book, video, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new.

The Only Way Is Up

"The Only Way Is Up" is a song written by George Jackson and Johnny Henderson and originally released in 1980 as a single by soul singer Otis Clay. In 1988, it became a chart-topping single for Yazz and the Plastic Population. The song is the official theme tune for award-winning ITV2 series The Only Way Is Essex. The song was a favourite of M People's, who would frequently play it on their live tours. The band's lead singer, Heather Small, has described it as her favourite song, and once explained that, should she ever be anywhere, this is the song that she would sing.

Otis Clay version

The song was first recorded by Otis Clay and released as a single on the Echo label in 1980. Though not a hit at the time, the song became the title track of Clay's 1982 LP, The Only Way Is Up.

Yazz version

The Yazz version was produced by Jonathan More and Matt Black (better known as dance duo Coldcut, who had worked with Yazz on their hit single "Doctorin' the House"). Released as a single in July 1988, "The Only Way Is Up" became an instant smash, spending five weeks at #1 in the UK, and ultimately became the second biggest selling single of the year. In the United States, however, it fared less well, peaking at #96 on the Billboard Hot 100, though it did reach #2 on the Billboard dance chart.
