IMPORTANT UPDATE: In more recent testing - Oct 2015 - ProRes on the BMPC4k looks the same as Raw, when it comes out of the camera. In the video above, we see the leaves in the sun clip when recording ProRes. It seems this is no longer the case, due to a firmware tweak, I'd guess. Excellent news.
Vimeo members, please download the 2.4k original ProRes file via the download button. It's impossible to see noise levels in the re-compressed Vimeo file.
Shot at native ISOs because it was raw.
The Production camera was a few feet further back and used a Canon 28mm f2.8 lens.
The Cinema camera was closer and used a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens at 16mm.
Areas of note:
The bushes in the sun are at risk of clipping.
The wall behind the couch will vary in shadow and noise levels.
What did I learn?
With the BMCC, there really is little reason to shoot raw - unless you want 2.4k and to eek out a tiny bit of highlight compensation in Resolve - which I often do want. With the BMPC, if possible, shoot raw for increased dynamic range. Comparing the cameras, the Production camera struggles to deal with highlights, while at the same time burying much of the image in shadows. While it's a testament to 10-bit ProRes that you can lift the image so dramatically, with the BMPC, for this kind of shot, noise reduction is essential. In general, it's amazing these cameras will allow you to shoot images with parts that are indoors and unlit, and other parts outdoors in the sunshine, and you can end up with an image where everything appears to be exposed properly, indoors and out.

A class video project for my Business Management class, and my professor made me the director. Compared to my other videos, I know it's DEFINITELY not my best. But, it's silly & I like it, plus, I usually make music videos so given the challenge (and believe me, this was QUITE the challenge), I think it's okay.
And yes, this is supposed to be cheesy, LOL. It's inspired by the Krusty Krab training video.
Keep in mind that this is for my BUSINESS class, not for any of my FILM classes! I'll post my videos from film classes when I take them (before I change my major).
The whole class took part in some way but I'd like to thank Carolyn for the camera work, Christopher for narrating, and Jeff for acting the main part!

This is a daylight comparison between the Blackmagic Pocket and the bigger Cinema Camera. Both Cameras are set to ASA 800 and have the aperture at f2.6.
The point is not to have them compete against each other but more to see how they are different.

Just playing around with the R1, trying different exposures. Just held the camera with just the top handle, no rig.
Its all part of getting to know how it behaves.
Stripped down like this its not to heavy, you get used to it.
For me not even trying, and no stabilization Im very pleased with the low vibrations.
Almost no Rolling Shutter either.

In the test both where shooting Raw at their highest resolutions. 2.5K on the BMCC and 4.5K on the Red.
The Red however was on its lowest out of three possible qualities.
Still looks mighty fine to me.
Some moire on the BMCC, otherwise it holds up nicely.

The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is one of six two-year colleges within the City University of New York (CUNY) system and the only one in Manhattan. Founded in 1963, BMCC originally offered business-oriented and liberal arts degrees for those intending to enter the business world or transfer to a four-year college. Its original campus was scattered all over midtown Manhattan, utilizing office space wherever available. In the mid-1970s CUNY began scouting for suitable property on which to erect a new campus of its own. The current campus has been in use since 1983. Currently, with an enrollment of over 19,000 students, BMCC was. It grants associate's degrees in a wide variety of vocational, business, health, science, and continuing education fields.
Advertising itself to potential students under the motto, "Start Here. Go Anywhere," its student body is nearly two-thirds female and boasts a median age of 24 with attending students hailing from over 100 different countries, and a faculty of nearly 1,000 full-time and adjunct professors. Another 10,000 students are enrolled in BMCC's distance education programs.

BMCC vs BMPC4k | In the Raw 2.4k Comparison of raw and ProRes on Blackmagic Production camera. Comparison of raw and ProRes on Blackmagic Cinema camera. Comparison of raw between the two cameras. Comparison of ProRes between the two cameras. IMPORTANT UPDATE: In more recent testing - Oct 2015 - ProRes on the BMPC4k looks the same as Raw, when it comes out of the camera. In the video above, we see the leaves in the sun clip when recording ProRes. It seems this is no longer the case, due to a firmware tweak, I'd guess. Excellent news. A class video project for my Business Management class, and my professor made me the director. Compared to my other videos, I know it's DEFINITELY not my best. But, it's silly & I like it, plus, I usually make music videos so given the challenge (and believe me, this was QUITE the challenge), I think it's okay. And yes, this is supposed to be cheesy, LOL. Red One MX Test + BMCC Shootout
Just playing around with the R1, trying different exposures. Just held the camera with just the top handle, no rig. Its all part of getting to know how it behaves. Stripped down like this its not to heavy, you get used to it. For me not even trying, and no stabilization Im very pleased with the low vibrations. Almost no Rolling Shutter either. The wall behind the couch will vary in shadow and noise levels.
What did I learn?
With the BMCC, there really is little reason to shoot raw - unless you want 2.4k and to eek out a tiny bit of highlight compensation in Resolve - which I often do want. With the BMPC, if possible, shoot raw for increased dynamic range. Comparing the cameras, the Production camera struggles to deal with highlights, while at the same time burying much of the image in shadows. While it's a testament to 10-bit ProRes that you can lift the image so dramatically, with the BMPC, for this kind of shot, noise reduction is essential. In general, it's amazing these cameras will allow you to shoot images with parts that are indoors and unlit, and other parts outdoors in the sunshine, and you can end up with an image where everything appears to be exposed properly, indoors and out.

Just playing around with the R1, trying different exposures. Just held the camera with just the top handle, no rig.
Its all part of getting to know how it behaves.
Stripped down like this its not to heavy, you get used to it.
For me not even trying, and no stabilization Im very pleased with the low vibrations.
Almost no Rolling Shutter either.

In the test both where shooting Raw at their highest resolutions. 2.5K on the BMCC and 4.5K on the Red.
The Red however was on its lowest out of three possible qualities.
Still looks mighty fine to me.
Some moire on the BMCC, otherwise it holds up nicely.

Experts believe that the cut-offs in top colleges will increase by an average of 2% this year with 2,600 more students in the 90% club than last year in the secondary school certificate (SSC, standard X) result.
