Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10, 1949 in Edgewater, New Jersey) is an American businesswoman, investor, speaker, consultant, syndicated columnist, author, and television personality. As a television personality, she is a "Shark" investor on ABC's Shark Tank.
She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas College with a degree in education in 1971. After graduation, she taught school for a year, but soon moved on working various jobs including a side job renting apartments in New York City. She wanted to be her own boss, and in 1973 co-founded a real estate business called The Corcoran Group with her boyfriend, who fronted a $1,000 loan (approximately $5,300, inflation-adjusted, 2014). In the mid-1970s she also began publishing The Corcoran Report on real estate data trends in New York City.
In 2001, Corcoran sold her business to NRT Incorporated for $66 million. She is also a "Shark" investor on ABC's Shark Tank, and is invested in more than a dozen businesses to date.
Corcoran is an Irish surname. The original Gaelic version being Ó Corcráin meaning "descendant of Corcrán". The name itself is derived from corcair meaning "purple".
The name Corcoran is an anglicisation of the names of two Gaelic clans. The first was the Ó Corcráin in Ulster. The second was the MacCorcráin clan from Leinster, which was a sept of Ó Corcráin.
Related variations of the name Corcoran historically include MacCorcoran, O'Corcoran, and Corcorran. The Corcorans were predominantly from Fermanagh and included a number of figures of historical importance such as the Bishop of Clogher in 1370 and Edmund O'Corcoran, "the hero of Limerick" (from the siege of 1691).
Many Corcorans become members of the clergy between the tenth and fifteenth centuries, they became based around the vicinity of Lough Erne, County Fermanagh in Ulster. One member of the family, John Corcoran was appointed Bishop of Clogher in 1373.
The O'Corcrain territory was invaded by the Normans in 1170 AD.

Shark Tank is an American reality television series that premiered August 9, 2009, on ABC. The show is a franchise of the international format Dragons' Den, which originated in Japan in 2001. Shark Tank shows aspiring entrepreneur-contestants make business presentations to a panel of "shark" investors, who then choose whether or not to invest.
The show is currently in its seventh season, and has been a ratings success in its timeslot. It has also won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Structured Reality Program twice. Two further adaptations of the Dragons' Den format, one in Australia and one in Portugal, have been named Shark Tank. A third, an Italian version, was announced but has not aired.
Shark Tank is produced by Mark Burnett and based on the international format Dragon's Den, which originated in 2001 with the Japanese show Tigers of Money. The show, however, more closely resembles the format of the British version, Dragons' Den, which premiered in 2005. The show features a panel of potential investors, called "sharks," who consider offers from aspiring entrepreneurs seeking investments for their business or product. The sharks are paid for their participation in the show, but the money they invest is their own. The entrepreneur can make a deal on the show if a panel member is interested. However, if all of the panel members opt out, the entrepreneur leaves empty-handed. The show is said to portray "the drama of pitch meetings and the interaction between the entrepreneurs and tycoons." A one-hour pitch by a contestant is edited down to "a dramatic 10-minute segment."

Video of a mentally ill inmate at the state prison in California State Prison, Corcoran, as he is extracted from a holding cell on Dec. 3, 2012, after refusing to leave it voluntarily. The video was filmed by prison staffers, as required by department policy when guards prepare to use force against an inmate. U.S. District Judge Lawrence K. Karlton has found that the use of force against mentally ill inmates in California prisons is unconstitutionally harsh. Karlton ordered state officials to continue revising the use-of-force procedures deployed against the state's 33,000 mentally ill prisoners and to limit the use of solitary confinement as a means of disciplining such inmates.

And hear your voice
My heart goes up to ten
The I realise you made a choice
For me I am your friend
When I'm all alone and play this song
I hope that you can see
I get up and I just sing along
