Drug rehabilitation (often drug rehab or just rehab) is a term for the processes of medical or psychotherapeutic treatment, for dependency on psychoactive substances such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and street drugs such as cocaine, heroin or amphetamines. The general intent is to enable the patient to cease substance abuse, in order to avoid the psychological, legal, financial, social, and physical consequences that can be caused, especially by extreme abuse. Treatment includes medication for depression or other disorders, counseling by experts and sharing of experience with other addicts. Some rehab centers include meditation and spiritual wisdom in the treatment process. A few centers also treat gambling with the same techniques as are used in drug rehabilitation.
Psychological dependency is addressed in many drug rehabilitation programs by attempting to teach the patient new methods of interacting in a drug-free environment. In particular, patients are generally encouraged, or possibly even required, to not associate with friends who still use the addictive substance. Twelve-step programs encourage addicts not only to stop using alcohol or other drugs, but to examine and change habits related to their addictions. Many programs emphasize that recovery is a permanent process without culmination. For legal drugs such as alcohol, complete abstention—rather than attempts at moderation, which may lead to relapse—is also emphasized ("One is too many, and a thousand is never enough.") Whether moderation is achievable by those with a history of abuse remains a controversial point, but is generally considered unsustainable.
Addiction is a state characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences. It can be thought of as a disease or biological process leading to such behaviors. The two properties that characterize all addictive stimuli are that they are reinforcing (i.e., they increase the likelihood that a person will seek repeated exposure to them) and intrinsically rewarding (i.e., something perceived as being positive or desirable).
Addiction is a disorder of the brain's reward system which arises through transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms and occurs over time from chronically high levels of exposure to an addictive stimulus (e.g., morphine, cocaine, sexual intercourse, gambling, etc.).ΔFosB, a gene transcription factor, is a critical component and common factor in the development of virtually all forms of behavioral and drug addictions; two decades of research into ΔFosB's role in addiction have demonstrated that addiction arises, and the associated compulsive behavior intensifies or attenuates, along with the genetic overexpression of ΔFosB in the D1-type medium spiny neurons of the nucleus accumbens; due to the causal relationship between ΔFosB expression and addictions, it is used preclinically as an addiction biomarker. ΔFosB expression in these neurons directly and positively regulates drug self-administration and reward sensitization through positive reinforcement, while decreasing sensitivity to aversion.

Heroin addiction withdrawal can be extremely painful and hard to go though, but using certain nutrients, doctors show, lessen withdrawal symptoms. Cocaine addiction treatment is the same as well. Instead of just focusing on a "7 day rehab" we need to focus on coping skills and addiction management techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy to help addicts to learn to manage intrusive thoughts to use. What really causes addiction — to everything from cocaine to smart-phones? And how can we overcome it? Johann Hari has seen our current methods fail firsthand, as he has watched loved ones struggle to manage their addictions. He started to wonder why we treat addicts the way we do — and if there might be a better way. As he shares in this deeply personal talk, his questions took him around the world, and unearthed some surprising and hopeful ways of thinking about an age-old problem. Holistic addiction treatment Click Link Here: http://tinyurl.com/holisticaddiction A very effective way to combat addiction is to use a holistic addiction treatment that is backed by science. The best thing for anyone to do with an addiction problem is to use science based techniques that rewire the brain and body out of habit loops so that the addiction is no longer necessary. THE EVIDENCE IS CLEAR: COMMON DETOX AND REHAB CENTERS ARE NOT BASED ON SCIENCE OR EVIDENCE. Often they make you spend a few day or a few weeks for BRIEF STABILITY, but this treatment model of addiction is not scientifically valid. Also, drugs for addiction treatment is not the best option because of all the risks involved. Drugs can make matters worse and does not address the underlying issue. Restoring the br...

A complaint was filed in federal court in Colorado alleging that the Adams County jail and their privatized health care provider, Corizon, showed deliberate indifference to the serious medical needs of inmate, Tyler Tabor, who was suffering from opioid withdrawal. The below video tells the story of how he was in jail on a $300 bond and his family wanted him to detox at the jail and then they were going to put him into a rehab program. A simple saline IV would have saved him but the nurse from Corizon told him “We only do that for extreme cases.” In order to save the cost of a saline IV, the jail/Corizon let Tyler die. The video shows Tyler deteriorating over three days to the point where he couldn’t stand or walk, yet the county and the medical staff did absolutely nothing for him but watc...
