Andrew Lindsay MBE (born 25 March 1977) is a British former Olympic medal-winning rower and the CEO of Telecom Plus, which owns The Utility Warehouse.
Lindsay was educated at Eton College, where he first started rowing, and read geography at Brasenose College, Oxford. He rowed in the Oxford blue boat in The Boat Race three times, once as president of the boat club, and in The Childe of Hale, the First VIII of Brasenose College Boat Club. In 1994 he won bronze at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Munich.
Lindsay won a gold medal in the coxed eights event at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, as a member of the British rowing team.
After his Olympic success, Lindsay announced his retirement from competitive rowing and went into business. He worked for Goldman Sachs UK and Ryness Electrical prior to joining Telecom Plus in 2007.
In environmental law, the polluter pays principle is enacted to make the party responsible for producing pollution responsible for paying for the damage done to the natural environment. It is regarded as a regional custom because of the strong support it has received in most Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and European Community (EC) countries.
The polluter pays principle underpins environmental policy such as an ecotax, which, if enacted by government, deters and essentially reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Some eco-taxes underpinned by the polluter pays principle include: the Gas Guzzler Tax, in US, Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE)- a "polluter pays" fine. The U.S. Superfund law requires polluters to pay for cleanup of hazardous waste sites, when the polluters can be identified.
The Polluter pays principle is also known as extended producer responsibility (EPR). This is a concept that was probably first described by Thomas Lindhqvist for the Swedish government in 1990. EPR seeks to shift the responsibility of dealing with waste from governments (and thus, taxpayers and society at large) to the entities producing it. In effect, it internalised the cost of waste disposal into the cost of the product, theoretically meaning that the producers will improve the waste profile of their products, thus decreasing waste and increasing possibilities for reuse and recycling.
Andrew is the English form of a given name common in many countries. In the 1990s it was among the top ten most popular names for boys in English-speaking countries. In Italian, the equivalent to "Andrew" is "Andrea", though "Andrea" is feminine in most other languages. "Andrew" is frequently shortened to "Andy" or "Drew". The word is derived from the Greek: Ανδρέας, Andreas, itself related to Ancient Greek: ἀνήρ/ἀνδρός aner/andros, "man" (as opposed to "woman"), thus meaning "manly" and, as consequence, "strong", "courageous", and "warrior". In the King James Bible, the Greek "Ἀνδρέας" is translated as Andrew.
In 2000, the name Andrew was the second most popular name in Australia. In 1999, it was the 19th most common name, while in 1940, it was the 31st most common name. Andrew was the first most popular boys name in the Northern Territory in 2003 to 2015 and continuing. In Victoria, Andrew was the first most popular name for a boy in the 1970s.
Andrew was the 20th most popular name chosen for male infants in 2005. Andrew was the 16th most popular name for infants in British Columbia in 2004, the 17th most popular name in 2003, and the 19th most popular name in 2002. In 2001, it was the 18th most common name. From 1999 – 2003, Andrew was the sixth most often chosen name for a boy.

Andrew Patterson finds a local manufacturer selling a basic plastic homeware product range around the world and prospering despite the exchange rate. Sistema is Italian for system. Not the sort of business name you'd expect to find in New Zealand and perhaps even more unlikely that it manufactures plastic food containers and exports them to 47 countries from a plant in Penrose that operates round the clock 24/7. Yet Sistema is all of these things. The company is testament to the fact that manufacturing low value consumer products from NZ and sending them around the world is not only still possible; it can also be highly successful. Sistema was recently named Supplier of the Year at the annual charity bash put on by the country's most well-known retailer The Warehouse. Abo...
