September 11 attacks

The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th, or 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks consisted of suicide attacks used to target symbolic U.S. landmarks.

Four passenger airliners—which all departed from airports on the U.S. East Coast bound for California—were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists to be flown into buildings. Two of the planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. Within an hour and 42 minutes, both 110-story towers collapsed, with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the World Trade Center complex, including the 47-story 7 World Trade Center tower, as well as significant damage to ten other large surrounding structures. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon (the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense) in Arlington County, Virginia, leading to a partial collapse in the Pentagon's western side. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, initially was steered toward Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers. In total, the attacks claimed the lives of 2,996 people (including the 19 hijackers) and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage and $3 trillion in total costs. It was the deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States, with 343 and 72 killed respectively.

Conspiracy theory

A conspiracy theory is an explanatory or speculative hypothesis suggesting that two or more persons or an organization have conspired to cause or to cover up, through secret planning and deliberate action, an event or situation typically regarded as illegal or harmful. Since the mid-1960s, the phrase has denoted explanations that invoke conspiracies without warrant, often producing hypotheses that contradict the prevailing understanding of historical events or simple facts.

One common feature of conspiracy theories is that they evolve to incorporate evidence against them, so that they become unfalsifiable and, as Michael Barkun argues, "a matter of faith rather than proof." The term conspiracy theory has thus acquired a derogatory meaning, and is often used to dismiss or ridicule unpopular beliefs.

Usage of the term

People formulate conspiracy theories to explain, for example, power relations in social groups and the perceived existence of evil forces. Conspiracy theories have chiefly psychological or socio-political origins. Proposed psychological origins include projection; the personal need to explain "a significant event [with] a significant cause;" and the product of various kinds and stages of thought disorder, such as paranoid disposition, ranging in severity to diagnosable mental illnesses. Some people prefer socio-political explanations over the insecurity of encountering random, unpredictable, or otherwise inexplicable events. Some philosophers have argued that belief in conspiracy theories can be rational.

New (album)

New (stylised as III☰III) is the sixteenth studio album by Paul McCartney, released on 14 October 2013 in the United Kingdom and the following day in the United States. The album was his first since 2007's Memory Almost Full to consist entirely of new compositions.

The album was executive produced by Giles Martin, with production by Martin, Mark Ronson, Ethan Johns and Paul Epworth and it was mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound, New York. McCartney has stated that New was inspired by recent events in his life as well as memories of his pre-Beatles history. He added that some of the arrangements are unlike his usual rock recordings, and that he specifically sought out younger producers to work with. He and his stage band performed in various venues to promote the album, along with promotional events held through social media.

The first single, "New", and the album were met with a generally favourable reception from music critics. The album peaked at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart and on the US Billboard 200.

The Tuskegee experiment secretly infected nearly 400 African American men with syphilis between 1932 and 1972 in a program directly backed by the US Public Health Service. Their aim was to see if black men coped better than white guys with the disease, because obviously that's a great reason to go around giving people a serious sexual infection. Good job science jerks. This is a girl called Nariyah and in 1990 she gave a moving testimony to Congress about how she witnessed invading Iraqi soldiers dumping newborn babies out of their incubators in her home country of Kuwait, leaving them to die in filth on the floor. Her story helped garner support for an invasion of Iraq led by then President George Herbert Walker Bush, but there was just one problem with Nariyah's account of Iraqi atrocities - it was about as truthful as the guys caught on To Catch A Predator turning up to a kids house with a bottle of wine and a six pack of condoms. "No of course I don’t find children attractive Mr Hansen, I brought the wine for communion, I’m a religious man you see. Between 1920 and 1933 the United States was drier than an April Ludgate comeback after a mouthful of crackers. Prohibition was in full swing, and even though stiff penalties were in place for those who drank or made alcoholic beverages many people continued to get wasted in secret by purifying industrial alcohol. But the FBI didn't approve of this, so to persuade the public of the error of their ways they began adding impurities to industrial alcohol to make it even more poisonous, hoping nobody would consume it. Denmark, Norway, the USA, Switzerland, Estonia, Iceland, Britain, Panama - what's the link? They're all terrible at soccer? No because Iceland clearly rock at the moment. I'm afraid the clue was in the title, because each of these countries has at some point enforced sterilization programs on its citizens. In 1996 Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Gary Webb published a series of books and articles in a series called "Dark Alliance", where he exposed links between the CIA and Central-American right-wing groups called the Contras. The Contras were assisted by the CIA in smuggling drugs for sale into the USA, so that their profits could be used to overthrow left-wing Governments across Central America . In the early 2000's the UK Parliament was deliberating whether to join the US in an invasion of Iraq, but a recently-concluded investigation seven years in the making has outlined a shocking conspiracy regarding the war between two of the world's major former leaders - George W Bush and Tony Blair.

Operation Northwoods In 1962 US military intelligence planned terrorist attacks on its own country. US operatives intended to blame these attacks on the Cuban government to justify a war against Cuba. The operation involved hijacking planes and bombing US cities, to gain public support against Cuba’s communist leader, Fidel Castro. 6. The NSA Files In 2013 computer analyst Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA was accessing tens of millions of Americans’ online records and tracking phone calls – under the pretence of trying to uncover terrorist plots. 5. COINTELPRO Peace activists suspected the FBI of infiltrating the anti-war movement - and they were right. On March 8th 1971 they broke into an FBI office and stole hundreds of files, which revealed the bureau’s true motives. The Counter Intelligence Program was an aggressive, covert operation by the bureau to destroy Communism and the New Left. 4. Operation Snow White In the 1970s the Church of Scientology performed one of the largest infiltrations of US government in history. 5,000 undercover members raided 136 American agencies to steal documents critical of the church. In 1977 former Scientology member Michael Meisner contacted the FBI, suspecting that the Scientology community was involved in criminal activities. 3. Guatemala Syphilis Study Between 1946 and 1948 the USA landed in Guatemala City and secretly infected 1,500 people with syphilis to test the effectiveness of penicillin. At least 83 people died in these experiments, which had the approval of The Rockefeller Foundation and Johns Hopkins University. 2. Gulf of Tonkin The Vietnam War was started because of a lie. On August 2nd 1964 America and North Vietnam engaged in military combat in the Gulf of Tonkin. 1. So why do Putin and his pals have such bad luck in trying to reach the Martian surface? The answer may lie at the doorstep of these fellas. Climate Change is a literal hot topic right now, with scientists and people on the left claiming man is to blame for global warming, and conspiracy theorists and right-wingers claiming it’s a natural phenomenon exaggerated by dirty hippies with a total nature boner. The theory that man never made it to the moon is a popular conspiracy, but for all the observations on light, shadows, atmospheric conditions and the rest, most people fail to take into account one giant problem with their analysis – Russia. At the Cold War’s height the Soviets would’ve jumped all over the slightest hint of space-skull-duggery, but the USA’s greatest nemesis fully verified the achievement of the crew of Apollo 11. However, what may not be real are the videos of this historic moment. One of the main reasons so many moon-landing conspiracists continue to believe man never went to the moon is the lack of evidence provided by modern day technology. At a concert in 2004 someone claiming to be Andrew WK performed on stage at a show for college radio station WSOU, but audience members and security staff recognised the guy in the white outfit and long hair as definitely not Andrew WK. This imposter left the show halfway through, and since that incident even more intriguing details have emerged. This extremely controversial theory claims that in 1991 major record labels were paid by the owners of private prisons to encourage their rappers to add more gangster elements to their music. The plan was that by promoting the sale of drugs, street violence and criminal activity through music to make it seem appealing, more criminals would be created to fill privately owned corporate prisons. Whenever a hot new recording artist emerges from nowhere have you noticed how their Youtube videos seem to have millions more hits than they should? Well that’s because record companies pay for popularity.
