Sometimes you have to get lost in life only to find your own path. In episode 3 of the Bali Shaycation, we visited Seminyak and got a little lost. It ended up being a blessing in disguise, because we met some beautiful locals and explored some temples. We also discovered a cool Mexican restaurant in Indonesia. Quite the adventure!

So we've just finished our 5 week tour of Indonesia!
Its incredible how the other side of the world can be so different in so many ways! It took a while to adjust to the Indonesian way of life. Whether its whizzing around in intense traffic on a scooter or ultimately chilling in some of the most tasteful cafes and coffee shops known to man, Indonesia has it all on offer.
Also some little DJI phantom 2 drone shots thrown in for good measure ;)

When we arrived, we noticed the main shopping centre here was very nice. It took us 5 minutes to walk through the entire place. It was unimpressive and had products resembling those we'd already seen elsewhere in Bali—only 5 times the price, literally. This area was very clean when compared to Kuta.
We set off along the road from Seminyak and ventured in and out of the little boutique(ish) stores. We were very disturbed by the marked prices so we consulted the Lonely Planet book again. Lonely Planet suggests ET has "out of this world" prices.
Some basic, average quality dresses were priced in excess of 100USD and these prices were not negotiable (at least not when we were there). The only thing I can figure is that rent is excessive and some European travellers would walk in and buy these dresses for 100+ dollars. It all became very clear to us when we saw a t-shirt in the window with a price tag of 30USD that was also on Kuta beach for 5USD. Even the hawkers in this area had excessive prices with dresses costing around 30USD that you could purchase for around 6USD in Sidoi 1 or 2. I wish the excess suprlus generated from the sale of clothing items here is re-distributed back to those making the clothes rather than lining the pockets of wealthy merchants from overseas.

Seminyak
Seminyak is a mixed tourist / residential area on the west coast of Bali just north of Kuta and Legian. Originally a separate township, this is now just another suburb of Kuta. This area is very popular with resident expatriates and land and accommodation prices are amongst the highest in Bali. Plenty of luxury spas and hotels abound. Owing to its high density of high-end shopping, combined with the clustering of many fine eating establishments, it has rapidly become one of the most well-known tourist areas on the island.
In addition to a few commercial strips with popular and lively restaurants, bars, villas, and good crafts/furniture shops, there are a few notable establishments: Ku Dé Ta, which is a bar/restaurant with a cult following based on its beach side/semi-resort atmosphere that has earned it the title of number one party spot in various magazines, and Oberoi, which is an expensive hotel with a worldwide reputation. La Lucciola is a restaurant located in the north of Seminyak on the beach and has been in existence for over a decade.

So we've just finished our 5 week tour of Indonesia!
Its incredible how the other side of the world can be so different in so many ways! It took a while to adjust to the Indonesian way of life. Whether its whizzing around in intense traffic on a scooter or ultimately chilling in some of the most tasteful cafes and coffee shops known to man, Indonesia has it all on offer.
Also some little DJI phantom 2 drone shots thrown in for good measure ;)

When we arrived, we noticed the main shopping centre here was very nice. It took us 5 minutes to walk through the entire place. It was unimpressive and had products resembling those we'd already seen elsewhere in Bali—only 5 times the price, literally. This area was very clean when compared to Kuta.
We set off along the road from Seminyak and ventured in and out of the little boutique(ish) stores. We were very disturbed by the marked prices so we consulted the Lonely Planet book again. Lonely Planet suggests ET has "out of this world" prices.
Some basic, average quality dresses were priced in excess of 100USD and these prices were not negotiable (at least not when we were there). The only thing I can figure is that rent is excessive and some European travellers would walk in and buy these dresses for 100+ dollars. It all became very clear to us when we saw a t-shirt in the window with a price tag of 30USD that was also on Kuta beach for 5USD. Even the hawkers in this area had excessive prices with dresses costing around 30USD that you could purchase for around 6USD in Sidoi 1 or 2. I wish the excess suprlus generated from the sale of clothing items here is re-distributed back to those making the clothes rather than lining the pockets of wealthy merchants from overseas.
