Synopsis: In the high-stakes pursuit of big-wall climbing, the Shark’s Fin on Mount Meru may be the ultimate prize. Sitting 21,000 feet above the sacred Ganges River in Northern India, the mountain’s perversely stacked obstacles make it both a nightmare and an irresistible calling for some of the world’s toughest climbers. In October 2008, renowned alpinists Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk arrived in India to tackle Meru. Their planned seven-day trip quickly declined into a 20-day odyssey in sub-zero temperatures with quickly depleting food rations. Despite making it to within 100 meters of the elusive summit, their journey, like everyone before them, was not a successful one.

Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi is an award-winning film director and producer with Hungarian, Chinese, and Brazilian roots. Her first film A Normal Life, about young Kosovars who came of age during the recent war, won Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2003. Her second film, Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love, chronicles Senegalese icon Youssou N’Dour and his Grammy-award winning album Egypt, was released in theaters in the US and internationally. Vasarhelyi is a graduate of The Brearley School and Princeton University where she majored in Comparative Literature. In 2005, she was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film.” In 2008, she received an Achievement Award from the Creative Visions Foundation.
Jimmy Chin is one of the most sought after and recognized adventure sports photographers and filmmakers working today. In the past decade, Jimmy has collaborated with some of the most progressive athletes and explorers in the world, participating in and documenting break through expeditions around the planet, from climbing notable first ascents in the Karakoram, to skiing first descents in the Himalayas.

Jimmie Chinn was an actor, teacher and most notably, a playwright.
Jimmie was born in Middleton, Lancashire on March 30th 1940, the only son of his beloved mother, Edie. His early years in Oldham and Manchester were to shape his writing in future years. He came to London in 1959 where he trained as an actor at the RADA and worked in many aspects of the theatre. His short and very undistinguished career as an actor led him eventually to train as a teacher at Whitelands College, Putney, where he gained an honours degree in English and Drama. He taught and became a senior teacher and housemaster at Dormers Wells School in Middlesex until becoming a full-time writer in 1984. Jimmie became increasingly loved and admired not only in the professional theatre , but also in amateur theatre circles as a fine and talented actor, director, teacher, mentor and advisor.

Most of his work for the theatre was premiered by Teddington Theatre Club at Hampton Court Theatre or on the fringe circuit.

Ancient Buddhist, Vedic and Jain traditional cosmologies state that at the North Pole magnetic center of the Earth is a mountain of magnetite called Mount Meru. The Puranic and Sumerian traditions also spoke of this “Mount Sumeru.” In Ancient Iran they spoke of Mount Hara Berezaiti with a celestial spring on its highest peak in the realm of the stars. In ancient Chinese writings there is Mount Khun-Lun with a bronze Pillar of Heaven at the summit where the immortals dwell. The Turkmen tribes of Southern Turkestan speak of a copper pillar that marks the “naval of the Earth.” The Mongols wrote of Mount Sumber or Sumer with the Zambu tree on its summit. The Buryats of Siberia talk of Mount Sumur with the North pole star fastened to its summit. The Egyptians wrote of the “Mound of the First Time” which was the first land to appear from the Waters and is the dwelling place of the High God, the source of light. The Dogon tribe of Nigeria spoke of a cosmic pillar spanning 14 worlds which is the “roof-post of the house of the high god Amma.” The ancient Greek mythology tells of Mount Olympus the Home of the gods. The ancient German told of “Irminsul” a universal column which sustains everything. The Norse Edda spoke of Asgard, the burgh of the gods rising in the center of Midgard, the circular earth. The 14th century writings Inventio Fortunata by Nicholas de Linna and The Itinerium of Jacobus Cnoyen mention the magnetic mountain being so powerful that it pulled the nails right out of explorer’s boats! The encircling whirlpool and four directional rivers surrounding the mountain were said to change every 6 hours causing the tides, comparing them to the “breath of God” at the “naval of the Earth,” inhaling and exhaling the great seas. Even Gerhard Mercator, of the Mercator projection map we still use today, back in 1569 made a detailed map of the North Pole showing an Iron Mountain at the middle called “Mount Rupes Nigra” at the North Pole with four rivers extending outwards at right angles. Workers at Meru Teaching and Referal Hospital suspended for tampering with a CT scan
http://www.nation.co.ke Three workers at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital including two medical engineers and a security officer have been suspended over tampering with a Sh47 million CT scan last week. Meru county health executive Dr William Muraah said four other engineers have been served with warning letters for absconding duty when the incident happened. Addressing the media at the hospital, Dr Muraah said one of the engineers is being investigated for sabotaging the servicing of the referral facility’s Oxygen plant. The health executive said it will cost Sh420, 000 to repair the oxygen plant. -

Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi is an award-winning film director and producer with Hungarian, Chinese, and Brazilian roots. Her first film A Normal Life, about young Kosovars who came of age during the recent war, won Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2003. Her second film, Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love, chronicles Senegalese icon Youssou N’Dour and his Grammy-award winning album Egypt, was released in theaters in the US and internationally. Vasarhelyi is a graduate of The Brearley School and Princeton University where she majored in Comparative Literature. In 2005, she was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film.” In 2008, she received an Achievement Award from the Creative Visions Foundation.
Jimmy Chin is one of the most sought after and recognized adventure sports photographers and filmmakers working today. Three elite mountain climbers sacrifice everything but their friendship as they struggle through heartbreaking loss and nature's harshest elements to attempt the never-before-completed Shark's Fin on Mount Meru, the most coveted first ascent in the dangerous game of Himalayan big wall climbing.
Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi is an award-winning film director and producer with Hungarian, Chinese, and Brazilian roots. Her first film A Normal Life, about young Kosovars who came of age during the recent war, won Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2003. Her second film, Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love, chronicles Senegalese icon Youssou N’Dour and his Grammy-award winning album Egypt, was released in theaters in the US and internationally. Vasarhelyi is a graduate of The Brearley School and Princeton University where she majored in Comparative Literature. In 2005, she was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film.” In 2008, she received an Achievement Award from the Creative Visions Foundation.
Jimmy Chin is one of the most sought after and recognized adventure sports photographers and filmmakers working today. In the past decade, Jimmy has collaborated with some of the most progressive athletes and explorers in the world, participating in and documenting break through expeditions around the planet, from climbing notable first ascents in the Karakoram, to skiing first descents in the Himalayas.

The Buryats of Siberia talk of Mount Sumur with the North pole star fastened to its summit. The Egyptians wrote of the “Mound of the First Time” which was the first land to appear from the Waters and is the dwelling place of the High God, the source of light. The Muslims write of Qaf and Zoroastrians of Sogdiana wrote of Girnagar the world encircling mountains. The Navajos spoke of “encircled mountain” which was surrounded by four directional mountains. The Dogon tribe of Nigeria spoke of a cosmic pillar spanning 14 worlds which is the “roof-post of the house of the high god Amma.” The ancient Greek mythology tells of Mount Olympus the Home of the gods. The ancient German told of “Irminsul” a universal column which sustains everything. The Norse Edda spoke of Asgard, the burgh of the gods rising in the center of Midgard, the circular earth. The 14th century writings Inventio Fortunata by Nicholas de Linna and The Itinerium of Jacobus Cnoyen mention the magnetic mountain being so powerful that it pulled the nails right out of explorer’s boats! The encircling whirlpool and four directional rivers surrounding the mountain were said to change every 6 hours causing the tides, comparing them to the “breath of God” at the “naval of the Earth,” inhaling and exhaling the great seas. Even Gerhard Mercator, of the Mercator projection map we still use today, back in 1569 made a detailed map of the North Pole showing an Iron Mountain at the middle called “Mount Rupes Nigra” at the North Pole with four rivers extending outwards at right angles. Three workers at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital including two medical engineers and a security officer have been suspended over tampering with a Sh47 million CT scan last week.

Three workers at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital including two medical engineers and a security officer have been suspended over tampering with a Sh47 million CT scan last week.
Meru county health executive Dr William Muraah said four other engineers have been served with warning letters for absconding duty when the incident happened.
Addressing the media at the hospital, Dr Muraah said one of the engineers is being investigated for sabotaging the servicing of the referral facility’s Oxygen plant.
