Garuda Indonesia is the flag carrier of Indonesia. Named after the holy bird Garuda of Hinduism and Buddhism, the airline is headquartered at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, near Jakarta.
Founded in 1949 as KLM Interinsulair Bedrijf, the airline is now one of the world's leading airlines and the 20th member of the global airline alliance SkyTeam. It operates regular scheduled flights to a number of destinations in Southeast Asia, East Asia, Australia and Europe from its main hub in Jakarta, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, as well as services to Australia and Asia from Ngurah Rai International Airport (Bali) and a large number of domestic flights from both Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (Makassar) and Kuala Namu International Airport (Medan). After a series of financial and operational difficulties in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including the in-flight murder of a human rights activist by a pilot and several executives, the airline undertook a five-year modernization plan in 2009 known as the Quantum Leap, which brought with it a new livery, logo, uniforms and brand, as well as newer, more modern aircraft and facilities and a renewed focus on international markets.
The airline also operated a budget subsidiary Citilink which provides low-cost flights to multiple Indonesian destinations and was spun-off in 2012.
At the 2010 Farnborough Airshow, Garuda announced an order for another six A330-200 airliners. According to Garuda Indonesia’s Technical Director, Garuda Indonesia planned to buy nine Boeing 737-800s and two Airbus 330-200s in 2011.
With aims to improve flight capacity and frequency to eastern Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia opened a third hub located at the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Makassar, South Sulawesi from 1 June 2011. The company's first two hubs are Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Cengkareng, Jakarta), and Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar, Bali).
Garuda Indonesia is increasing the flight frequency of its domestic and international routes. Of the international routes, Garuda is increasing its frequency of Jakarta-Singapore to 8 times daily with a Boeing 737-800, Jakarta-Bangkok to 3 times daily with a Boeing 737-800, Jakarta-Hong Kong to 2 times daily with an A330-200 and a Boeing 737-800, Jakarta-Beijing to 5 times weekly with an Airbus A330-300 and an A330-200, Jakarta-Shanghai to 5 times weekly with an A330-200 and an Airbus A330-300, and Denpasar-Seoul to 5 times weekly with a Boeing 747-400 and an A330-300. The airline resumed service to Taipei from Jakarta on 25 May 2012.
At the Paris Air Show 2011, Garuda Indonesia announced a firm order of 25 Airbus A320s with an option for another 25. All 25 Airbus A320s are to be used by their subsidiary, Citilink
The Airline made its debut on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in February 2011, with the government of Indonesian retaining a majority of the shares. PT Trans Airways bought 10.9 percent stake of Garuda Indonesia unsold IPO shares from underwriters in 27 April 2012. The transaction was valued at Rp 1.53 trillion ($166.8 million).
Garuda Indonesia is officially rated as a 5-star airline by Skytrax along with 7 other airlines in the world.

Hello again! This is my first wide body aircraft flight review with Garuda's AIRBUS A330-243 PK-GPM! Actually, I ever rode this kind of aircraft with PK-GPJ from Jakarta to Melbourne on the same date with this flight 5 years before I did this flight!
Well, I transferred with many problems of slow services from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's Terminal 2F to Terminal 2E. But, I could catch my flight and smooooothly took off to HONG KONG!
Unusually, this flight didn't feature any song (s) of "The Sounds of Indonesia" album, which is usually played onboard Garuda's flight. They changed the song with christmas songs, what a nice touch from Garuda Indonesia.
The inflight was a umm... VERY GREAT experience, because the aircraft was very smooth ALL ALONG the flight, the flight attendants were very cheerful; although I got a delay.
Well that's all! Enjoy it!

Join me on this short hop back home to Singapore on Garuda Indonesia's Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
I encountered a delay of 45 minutes before departing from Soekarno Hatta International Airport and despite departing late, we landed at Singapore just ahead of schedule. For dinner, my chicken with rice option was delicious and the portion was just right. For entertainment wise, the selection was decent but touchscreen function wasn't sensitive enough.
All in all, I had a great time onboard GA836 (despite the lack of mood lighting) and I'm really satisfied with the service shown by the cabin crew.

Located in the westernmost point of the Lesser Sunda Islands, just between Java and Lombok, Bali is home to over four million people, with the majority of the population following the Hindu religion and culture. Bali is also the most visited place in Indonesia, and people from all over the world flock to the island to experience historic music, traditional food and a vast array of tourist markets.
The most important places to visit in Bali are: Ulun Danu temple (in the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia, you will find such stunning temples as this one amidst inspiring scenery), Beaches (Bali's beaches are among the best in the world. Spectacular vistas surround you. Take time to surf and enjoy the sunsets), Balinese dance (an ancient art form, truly a captivating experience. It is a religious expression and an integral part of the culture), Terraced fields (a common sight in Bali, these fields have been cultivated for literally thousands of years and add to the island's allure), Tanah Temple (located on a rock and Bali's famous Sea Temple, it is a part of Balinese mythology, and said to be constructed in the 15th century) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Bali travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. Bali, located between the islands of Java and Lombok, is ready to welcome you.
The southern part of the island is a dream for anyone who loves the ocean; it is full of breathtaking beaches and top surfing spots. Visit Kuta, a one-time fishing village turned mecca for restaurants, shopping, and culture. Put on your flip-flops and head north to tranquil Seminyak, where you can grab a bite to eat before exploring the beautiful Petitenget Temple, a fascinating space originally built to ward off mischievous local spirits.
Any Bali sightseeing should include Ubud, the cultural capital of the island. Walk through stalls and galleries spotlighting the work of local artisans. You can also make friends with the varied wildlife at Bali Bird Bark, which houses over 1,000 birds from all over the world, or the Sacred Monkey Forest, home to the Balinese long-tailed macaque.
Whether you’re exploring Bali as a backpacker or have rented a scooter to get around, this enchanting island paradise awaits you.

Jakarta Travel Guide: Jakarta is the capital and largest city of Indonesia, located on the northwest of the island of Java. Jakarta is the country's economic, cultural and political centre and the most populous city not only in Indonesia but in Southeast Asia as a whole.
Despite of the heavy traffic and heavy pollution the city is filled with exciting nightlife and vibrant shopping areas. The city is also the centre and melting pot of Indonesian culture which might be the thing for you to enjoy Jakarta.
One excellent surprise you'll find in Jakarta is that once you past the taxi drivers who offer their services at the airport and really meet the locals, you will find that the people are among the most friendly, hospitable, and helpful people you'll find on earth, if you keep away from the midi-bus drivers who are notorious for being the harshest on earth. However, understand that Jakarta being a melting pot, you are guaranteed to meet people from all sorts of characters.
Jakarta may initially seem a bit overwhelming, but if you can overlook the pollution and indulge in her charms, you can discover what is also one of Asia's most exciting, most lively cities. There is plenty to do in Jakarta, from cosmopolitan shopping at the many luxurious shopping centres to one of the hippest nightlife scenes in Southeast Asia.

Consider the following eight things to do in Bali, Indonesia as part of the attractions you consider during your travels.
When it comes to islands worth visiting in Southeast Asia, few can compete with the allure of Bali; however, if you're expecting a Utopian pristine paradise, as often is depicted in the movies and popular culture, you'll be in for a rude awakening. Bali is what it is -- unicorns and warts alike. Although there is stunning scenery, world class beaches and enchanting Hindu temples to explore there is also eyesore rubbish piles, filthy beaches and unscrupulous touts to content with.
If you can visit Bali with realistic expectations it certainly offers up a wide spread of activities and attractions worth visiting.
Consider the following eight things to do in Bali, Indonesia as part of your travel itinerary:
Balinese fire dance performance
1) Balinese fire and trance performance
2) Exploring the cultural hub of Ubud
3) Visit the Tegalalang Rice Terraces
4) Explore Hindu Temples
5) View Mount Batur from a distance
6) Explore surrounding beaches and islands
7) Visit Monkey Forest Temple
8) Hike up Mount Batur (an active volcano) for a spectacular sunrise viewing
Welcome to Bali, Indonesia!
After spending nearly a year travelling in Southeast Asia, we couldn't leave without first visiting Bali. We decided to take a 2 week trip to the famed island and split our time between Ubud and Sanur to explore as much as possible.
During one of our first nights on the island, we attended a Balinese fire and trance performance. This dance and music drama originated in the 1930s, depicting stories from Hindu literature.
Ubud is the art and cultural capital of Bali and we enjoyed spending a few days here. Our mornings in the town were spent visiting the various temples, browsing through markets, and soaking in the surroundings.
We also had a chance to visit the Tegalalang Rice Terraces. They were lush, green, and reminded us of our time in Korea because Sam's apartment overlooked rice terraces.
Bali is mainly Hindu and the island is home to many temples. During our time in Bali we visited the Elephant Temple, which is best known for its menacing cave entrance.
We also visited Gunung Kawi, which is nicknamed the Rock Temple. The rock temple gets its name because of the 10 shrines that were carved into the rock wall and stand 7 meters tall. They are truly a sight to behold.
Well, I am supposed to sprinkle water on my head, so here we go.
During our tour around the island, we stopped at a lookout point where we saw the impressive Mount Batur looming in the horizon. Mount Batur is an active volcano, however, when we learned that it was open to hikers, we decided we were up for the challenge.
Bali is a great jump off point for exploring some of the surrounding beaches and islands. Trips to Lombok, Nusa Lembongan, and the Gili Islands are very easy to arrange. There are plenty of water sports to choose from including snorkeling, free diving, scuba diving, surfing and even kayaking.
Ubud is home to the monkey forest where infamous little macaques roam freely. The monkey forest is home to over 600 monkeys, who over time have lost all fear of man. The monkeys are not shy and will approach people and even climb onto their bodies if they believe you have food. If you're feeling adventurous and would like to feed the monkeys, you can purchase bananas right at the entrance of the monkey forest.
One of the highlights of our time in Bali, was climbing Mount Batur for sunrise. The morning of the hike, we got up at 2 in the morning and were driven to the base of the volcano. Armed with a trusty guide and flashlights in hand, we began the steep climb that would take close to 2 hours to complete. We took plenty of breaks along the way, but once we finally reached the top, we were rewarded with a rainbow colored sunrise.
Overall, we really enjoyed our time in Bali! It may not have been the quiet paradise that's depicted in the movies, but it offered culture, natural beauty, and it was a great place to relax.
This is part of our Travel in Bali, Indonesia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Indonesian culture, Balinese Culture, Indonesian arts, Balinese arts, Indonesian foods, Balinese foods, Indonesian religion, Balinese religion, Indonesian people and Balinese people:

In Sept/Aug 2013, my girl and I spent a month touring the island chain of Indonesia. This is a journal, of sorts, from that adventure. It's messy. Less a story than a mush of video clips strung into more-or-less chronological order. I would apologise for the amateur mistakes with issues like sound, editing, and the slow bits, but I won't. It's not supposed to be a masterpiece.
For those who contributed to our voyage, thank you. This is for you. You know who you are. We'll see you in the world some time. X

The beautiful island of Bali is full of vulcanic mountains and crater lakes. On its fertile soil rice, tea and coconut are grown. The main elements of the landscape are the emerald green ricefields, the untarnished jungle and the steep cliffs. Let us take a visit to one of the National Parks and meet the friendly Balinese people. The religion of the island is a unique mixture of Buddhism and Hinduism. The omnipresent temples and sanctuaries are important memories of the South-East Asian culture. Let us try the exotic hot dishes of the local cousine and the fresh juices of tropical fruits. Let us take a swim in the lukewarm, crystal clear Indian Ocean and try the most famous surfers’ paradise of the world. Let us buy some of the incredibly detailed works of the local sculptors and the painted silk clothes, listen to ’gamelan’ music and enjoy one of the ancient dances performed in colorful dresses, and finally take a look a the sun setting above the ’Tanah Lot’ sea sanctuary.

Bali is one of the biggest provinces in Indonesia, and it encompasses a number of islands as well as the isle of Bali.
Wonderful Indonesia:
http://www.indonesia.travel
East Java might be the least populated area in Java island, but its charm and unique terrain will captivate its visitors. Capital of East Java province, Surabaya, is a cosmopolitan city and you can find any comfortable surroundings and facilities there. However within a short trip you might be tempted to enjoy the natural charms such as climbing Mt. Bromo and enjoying fabulous sunrise there or probably trying to conquer Mount Semeru, the highest mountain in Java (about 3676 meters above sea level).
Some parks are available for those who prefer natural surroundings. An island on the eastern part of Java called Madura is also famous for its distinct culture and bull races of karapan sapi, usually held in August and September every year.
Locations :
Mount Bromo, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Reog, ponorogo, Karapan Sapi, Malang Batu, Surabaya, Sunrise Bromo, Suramadu Bridge, Candi Singosari, Lautan Pasir Bromo, Upacara Adat Kasada, Pulau Madura, Bangunan Bersejarah, Chinesse Haritage, Toko Oen, Arsitektur Kuno, Gamelan, Rafting, Apel Malang, Kuda Lumping, Kuliner Lokal, East Javanese,Ijen Crater, Surabaya, Take It Easy in Malang, Singosari Temple, Trowulan, World's Best Surfing at G-Land, The Ampel Mosque and the tomb of Sunan Ampel, East Java, bayuwangi, BATU: Vacation City in East Java's Mountains, dubbed "Klein Switzerland", jember, balekambang beach, sempu island malang, The Surreal Madakaripura Waterfall, vestige of the great Majapahit Kingdom, jawa timur, apel malang, ponorogo,

Indonesia straddles the Equator between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. While it has land borders with Malaysia to the north as well as East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the east, it also neighbors Australia to the south, and Palau, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand to the north, India to the northwest.
See in Bali & Java - Indonesia
=============
Natural attractions
--------------------------
Indonesia is home to no less than 167 active volcanoes, far more than any other country. Some of the more accessible for visitors are in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park and the Ijen Crater in East Java, Mount Rinjani in Lombok and perhaps easiest of all, Mount Batur in Bali. A list of 226 Indonesian mountains has recently been compiled.
Hardly surprisingly in the world's largest archipelago, beaches are significant attractions. Aside from the obvious like Bali, there are wonderful beaches in off-the-beaten-track locations in Maluku, Nusa Tenggara and Sulawesi. In a nation of 18,000+ islands, the options are almost endless.
Indonesia has some of the largest remaining tracts of tropical forest anywhere in the world, and these support an incredibly diverse wildlife from Orangutans and other primates to critically endangered Javan Rhinoceros and Tigers, and an extraordinarily wide range of bird species. Forest areas recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites are Ujung Kulon National Park in West Java, and three huge parks in Sumatra, which together comprise the Tropical Rain Forest Heritage of Sumatra: Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, Gunung Leuser National Park and Kerinci Seblat National Park.
Further east, Komodo Island is the home of the remarkable Komodo Dragon and a very diverse marine life. Close to the very eastern limit of Indonesia, the remote Lorentz National Park in Papua has a permanent glacier, and is the single largest national park anywhere in Southeast Asia.
Historical and cultural attractions
-------------------------------------------------
Borobudur in Central Java is the world's largest Buddhist monument, dating from the 8th century, and nearby Prambanan is a remarkable Hindu monument dating from just a few years later. Those two, together with the charm of Yogyakarta, make for a popular cultural combination in Central Java.
Also in Central Java, the Dieng Plateau is home to the oldest extant temples in Indonesia, predating Borobudur by some 100 years, and just north of Solo, the early man archaeological excavation at Sangiran is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In such a vast archipelago it is hardly surprising that there are some very distinct and unique cultures, often contained in relatively small areas. Bali has a unique Hindu culture, descended from the great Javanese Majapahit Kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries. The whole island is adorned by beautifully kept temples (pura), and there is a seemingly endless procession of colourful ceremonies. Some of the better known are the mother temple at Besakih, Pura Ulun Danau Bratan, and Pura Uluwatu.
Further east, Sumba is home to one of the few remaining megalithic cultures anywhere on earth. In Sulawesi, the Tana Toraja region is famous for spectacular animist burial rites. Visiting the vast hinterland of Papua in the far east of the country requires considerable planning, an awful lot of money, and a tolerance for extremely challenging conditions. However, for those who want a true wilderness experience and the opportunity to witness first-hand cultures that have had very little contact with the outside world, it is hard to think of a better option anywhere on earth.

=============

The island of Lombok is situated in the vast Indonesian archipelago, between the islands
of Bali and Sumbawa.
Long overshadowed by it’s brasher, big sister Bali, Lombok offers a quieter, less
developed vacation alternative.
Mataram, the island’s capital, is home to Lombok’s largest Hindu Temple, Pura Meru.
Nearby, spend a quiet hour amid the rows of Mangosteen trees and bathe in the scent of
jasmine at the Mayura Water Palace.
Head north along the scenic west coast road to Senggigi Beach. This laid-back resort town
makes an ideal base to explore the rest of Lombok.
Pay your respects at the Hindu pagodas of Batu Bolong Temple, then enjoy a dip with local
families at the beach below.
When it’s time to move on, follow the inland road north to Pusuk Park Pass, a
mountainous reserve teeming with monkeys.
Wander the local market at Tanjung, a real window into the lives of Lombok’s mostly rural
people.
The Gili Islands are three, tiny islands that lie just off Lombok’s North West coast where life
is refreshingly simple, and the only way to get around is on foot, bicycle, or pony cart.
Whichever Gili Island you choose, a few days here is guaranteed to reboot your body
clock to island time, and put you back in touch with the rhythms of nature.
Welcome to Lombok, Bali’s little sister. A place to remind us that sometimes it’s not always
best to be first, or to grow up too fast, too soon.

Indonesia is one of the most amazing and diverse countries in the world. It has ancient temples, beautiful beaches, hundreds of volcanoes, exotic wildlife, and abundant natural resources. Indonesia includes some of the largest and most famous islands in the world, including Bali, Borneo, Java, Komodo, New Guinea, and Sumatra—more than 17,500 islands in all.
The real beauty of Indonesia is found in the eyes and smiles of its people. Taking the time to learn some simple Indonesian words and phrases will help you unveil more of this country's wonderful treasures. Most Indonesians are happy, friendly, and curious people. They often will speak to you as you cross paths. They typically will ask where you are from and where you are going. When you have the opportunity, try to converse with locals. It can be educational, informative, and rewarding. Most Indonesian people know at least a few English words and are eager to learn more. Many Indonesians are very articulate in English, especially those involved in tourism, retail, and international business.
This language and travel guide will help you get the most from your trip by guiding you to sites and towns to visit, activities to enjoy, and places to stay. It also will help you find the right Indonesian words to use at the right time. In addition to the book, we are launching a series of video tutorials to help you learn the most important words and how to pronounce them.

777-300ER 'New' Business Class Singapore Airlines SQ231: Singapore to Sydney
I tried the new business class product with Singapore Airlines and found it to be much improved. Unfortunately, it isn't available on the A380-800 but will be found on the A350.

Enjoy this new economy class experience onboard Air France's Boeing 777-300ER. This particular aircraft features the new first, business, premium economy and economy class product.
Verdict:
Seat: The seat was comfortable with generous legroom.
Entertainment: The IFE was impressive and the touchscreen was responsive.
Service: The cabin crew were professional and were prompt to requests.
Meal: The dinner service was a letdown. The portion was too small but I guess that's what you get for a short flight. The lemon cake wasn't to my liking either.
Overall: It was an enjoyable experience on this short flight with Air France.

GARUDA INDONESIA MD-11ER PK-GIL TOKYO (NRT) - JAKARTA
MARCH 17, 1998
In March we decided to go on vacation together with my father in law, wife and daughter to Indonesia to visit the beautiful islands of Bali and Lombok soon after he became a widower.
This video features the outbound and very empty flight from Tokyo-Narita to Jakarta connecting to Denpasar onboard Garuda Indonesia MD-11ER PK-GIL.
However, also this flight was taped with the very first generation of video cameras with digital recording on mini DV cassettes. There were neither stabilizing nor focusing features available at that time. I therefore apologize for the poor video quality and hope that you still can capture the feeling of what it was like to fly in the 90s.
History of Garuda Indonesia MD-11ER PK-GIL
Airframe 48755 was manufactured 1997 and delivered to Garuda Indonesia, registered PK-GIL, May 24, 1997. This aircraft operated for Varig, Brazil, from October 29, 1999 until June, 2006, registered PP-VQJ and later for TAM Linhas Aéreas, Brazil, from February 4, 2007 was registered PT-MSH, until she was stored in November, 2008. This aircraft was acquired by MDFC Carson Co and registered N730BC, November 17, 2008 and converted into a freighter to be leased to Federal Express, registered N572FE on June 4, 2009. N572FE is reported to be active.

When Garuda Indonesia announced they would be operating flights between London and Amsterdam on their new Jakarta route, I jumped at the chance to try out the Boeing 777-300ER service, even on a short route.
I finally booked flights for Saturday 10th October 2015, flying the afternoon service from London for the 50 minute hop over to the Netherlands.
It was an absolute pleasure to fly on this Boeing 777, such a graceful aircraft. Garuda were also incredible, giving out hot towels when boarding, a very good/informative TV entertainment system and a little bit of complementary food - not bad for £40 one way!
I was also astonished to find that this flight was completely full - most people (over 250 passengers) were only travelling to Amsterdam. I guess it's the cheapest way to get over! Certainly the best way to fly. Recommended to all.

Etihad Airways (Arabic: الاتحاد al-ittiḥād) is a flag carrier and the second-largest airline of the United Arab Emirates (after Emirates). Its head office is in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, near Abu Dhabi International Airport (OMAA - ICAO). Established by royal decree of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in July 2003, Etihad commenced operations in November 2003. The name in Latin script is a romanization of the Arabic word for "union" (إتّحاد ittiḥād). In the airline's Arabic name, Etihad (إتّحاد) is preceded by the definite article, al (ال), reading Al-Etihad (الإتّحاد).
The airline operates more than 1,000 flights per week to over 120 passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas, with a fleet of 119 Airbus and Boeing aircraft as of August 2015. In 2012, Etihad carried 10.3 million passengers, a 23% increase from the previous year, delivering revenues of US$4.8 billion and net profits of US$42 million. Etihad Airways is the third largest airline in the Middle East and it is the second largest airline in the UAE, after the Dubai-based airline Emirates. Its main base is Abu Dhabi International Airport.
In addition to its core activity of passenger transportation, Etihad also operates Etihad Holidays and Etihad Cargo. Etihad established its own airline alliance, Etihad Airways Partners, in 2015, which includes Alitalia, Jet Airways, airberlin, Niki, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles and Etihad Regional. Almost every participant airline has a considerable stake of the airline owned by Etihad. Booking for these airlines is consolidated under one network. With the exception of Niki, Etihad Airways holds minority equity investments in the participating airlines along with Aer Lingus and Virgin Australia which are not officially listed as Etihad Airways Partners.
The Airbus A330 is a medium to long range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner made by Airbus, a division of Airbus Group. Versions of the A330 have a range of 5,600 to 13,430 kilometres (3,020 to 7,250 nmi) and can accommodate up to 335 passengers in a two-class layout or carry 70 tonnes (150,000 lb) of cargo.
The A330's origin dates to the mid-1970s as one of several conceived derivatives of Airbus's first airliner, the A300. The A330 was developed in parallel with the four-engine A340, which shared many common airframe components but differed in number of engines. Both airliners incorporated fly-by-wire flight control technology, first introduced on an Airbus aircraft with the A320, as well as the A320's six-display glass cockpit. In June 1987, after receiving orders from various customers, Airbus launched the A330 and A340. The A330 was Airbus's first airliner that offered a choice of three engines: General Electric CF6, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, and Rolls-Royce Trent 700.
The A330-300, the first variant, took its maiden flight in November 1992 and entered passenger service with Air Inter in January 1994. Responding to dwindling sales, Airbus followed up with the slightly shorter A330-200 variant in 1998. Subsequently developed A330 variants include a dedicated freighter, the A330-200F, and a military tanker, the A330 MRTT. The A330 MRTT formed the basis of the proposed KC-45, entered into the US Air Force's KC-X competition in conjunction with Northrop Grumman, where after an initial win, on appeal lost to Boeing's tanker.
Since its launch, the A330 has allowed Airbus to expand market share in wide-body airliners. Competing twinjets include the Boeing 767 and 777, along with the 787, which entered service in late 2011. The long-range Airbus A350 XWB was to succeed both the A330 and A340. The current A330 (referred to as the A330ceo (current engine option) since 2014) is to be replaced by the A330neo, which includes new engines and other improvements. As of October 2015, A330ceo orders stand at 1,439, of which 1,230 have been delivered. The largest operator is Turkish Airlines with 53 A330s in its fleet.
