British Airways is one of the UK's most visible brands, selling Britishness as a mark of quality. But in the last decade, the business has faced financial crisis and today, more people fly Easyjet than BA. As the airline reaches a turning point, the BBC's cameras have been allowed unique access to its inner world, from top level decisions to the daily challenges of a global operation.
This episode explores how the airline tries to persuade people to spend more to fly, revealing the world found behind the 'millionaire's door' at Heathrow Terminal 5, a lounge, restaurant, spa and champagne bar reserved for those select few who are happy to part with small fortunes to fly in the airline's First Class.
Also this episode, a look at how the airline is playing catch-up with some of its rivals as it brings its first A380, the world's biggest passenger plane, into service. Plus, the programme follows 18 anxious new recruits on their journey to become cabin crew with British Airways. On the 6th April we travelled to New York JFK with British Airways, making it my first trip on the B747-400 which had always been a wish of mine for a good couple of years. Choosing to fly with British airways, we started our journey at Manchester, flying on BA1389 on the a319. After arriving at T5, our journey from then till boarding was very smooth, transiting to the very quiet Terminal 5B. G-BYGA was the aircraft taking me to JFK as BA177 and had recently been fitted with BA's latest interior. The new seats were very impressive and a great upgrade from the previous seats. The new panasonic IFE system was also very impressive with a great selection of movies. The seats were very comfortable and felt very modern. The 747 had a very spacious cabin and was truly amazing to fly on. I couldn't fault the service from British Airways across the board. Thanks to British airways the journey flowed brilliantly, fortunately no stresses or issues. The meal services were also very good. The staff were all very friendly and they were kind enough to organise a flight-deck visit and let me pre-board. Overall i had a very pleasant trip with British airways and was very impressed with their service.

British Airways
British Airways, often shortened to BA, is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom and the largest airline in the United Kingdom based on fleet size. When measured by passengers carried, it is second-largest in United Kingdom (behind easyJet). The airline is based in Waterside near its main hub at London Heathrow Airport.
A British Airways Board was established by the United Kingdom government in 1972 to manage the two nationalized airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporation and British European Airways, and two smaller, regional airlines, Cambrian Airways, from Cardiff, and Northeast Airlines, from Newcastle upon Tyne. On 31 March 1974, all four companies were merged to form British Airways. After almost 13 years as a state company, British Airways was privatised in February 1987 as part of a wider privatisation plan by the Conservative government. The carrier soon expanded with the acquisition of British Caledonian in 1987, followed by Dan-Air in 1992 and British Midland International in 2012.

On the 6th April we travelled to New York JFK with British Airways, making it my first trip on the B747-400 which had always been a wish of mine for a good coup...
On the 6th April we travelled to New York JFK with British Airways, making it my first trip on the B747-400 which had always been a wish of mine for a good couple of years. Choosing to fly with British airways, we started our journey at Manchester, flying on BA1389 on the a319. After arriving at T5, our journey from then till boarding was very smooth, transiting to the very quiet Terminal 5B. G-BYGA was the aircraft taking me to JFK as BA177 and had recently been fitted with BA's latest interior. The new seats were very impressive and a great upgrade from the previous seats. The new panasonic IFE system was also very impressive with a great selection of movies. The seats were very comfortable and felt very modern. The 747 had a very spacious cabin and was truly amazing to fly on. I couldn't fault the service from British Airways across the board. Thanks to British airways the journey flowed brilliantly, fortunately no stresses or issues. The meal services were also very good. The staff were all very friendly and they were kind enough to organise a flight-deck visit and let me pre-board. Overall i had a very pleasant trip with British airways and was very impressed with their service.
