"Mighty High" is 1975 disco/R&B; single by Los Angeles based gospel group, Mighty Clouds of Joy. The single proved to be very popular with disco fans as the song stayed at number one on the disco/dance chart for five weeks. It became their biggest hit on both the soul chart, peaking at #22, and on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #69.
The Mighty Clouds became the first gospel act ever to appear on television's Soul Train, where they performed their disco smash "Mighty High."
Group members included: Richard Wallace, Joe Ligon, Michael McCowin, Ron Staples, Paul Beasley, Elmo Franklin, Michael Cook, Dwight Gordon, Johnny Martin, Ermant Franklin, Ronald Clark, and Wilbert Williams.

Formed the mid 1950's and based in Los Angeles, The Mighty Clouds of Joy were able to step out of their traditional gospel roots to encompass soul, R&B; and rock to bring their message to a larger audience without alienating their fan base. The "Temptations of Gospel" put out their first single in 1960 and evolved to including the use of keyboards, guitars and bass along with choreographed moves that attracted a younger audience. This is their biggest hit and was a disco smash, just listen to it! Dave Crawford who went on to produce Candi Staton "Young Hearts Run Free" takes the credit for bringing the Clouds a more contemporary sound. Did you know that the Clouds were the only gospel group to make it on to "Soul Train"? The group members have included Joe Ligon, Jimmy Jones, Johnny Martin (d. 1987), Ermant Franklin Jr., Artis Turnbough (d. 1999), Elmo Franklin (d. 2008), Richard Wallace, Rodney Hamilton, Leon Polk and David Walke. This is a fine example of early disco, although it is really R&B.; Can you imagine the fever level of the dancers when this one ramps up? Hands in the air, y'all!

Contemporary gospel's preeminent group, the Mighty Clouds of Joy carried the torch for the traditional quartet vocal style throughout an era dominated by solo acts and choirs; pioneering a distinctively funky sound which over time gained grudging acceptance even among purists, they pushed spiritual music in new and unexpected directions, even scoring a major disco hit. The Mighty Clouds of Joy were formed in Los Angeles during the mid-'50s by schoolmates Joe Ligon and Johnny Martin; while still in their teens, the original group — which also included brothers Ermant and Elmo Franklin, Leon Polk and Richard Wallace — made their recorded debut in 1960 with "Steal Away to Jesus," cut for the Peacock label. Their debut LP Family Circle arrived a year later. In the years that followed, the Mighty Clouds earned a reputation among gospel's greatest showmen; one of the first groups to incorporate choreographed moves into their act, their nimble footwork and bright, color-coordinated outfits earned them the sobriquet "The Temptations of Gospel." More importantly, they were the first group to add bass, drums and keyboards to the standard quartet accompaniment of solo guitar, resulting in a sound which horrified traditionalists but appealed to younger listeners — so much so, in fact, that the Mighty Clouds became the first gospel act ever to appear on television's Soul Train, where they performed their disco smash "Mighty High." Their crossover success continued with opening slots for secular pop stars including Marvin Gaye, the Rolling Stones and Paul Simon, whom the group backed during a month-long stint at Madison Square Garden. While lineup changes plagued the Mighty Clouds throughout their career, they remained active through the 1990s; in addition to co-founders Ligon and Wallace, their latter-day incarnation also included Michael McCowin, Wilbert Williams, Johnny Valentine and Ron Staples.

Mighty High
Mighty High is the eighth studio album by southern rock jam band Gov't Mule. The album was released on October 16, 2007, by ATO Records.Mighty High features reggae and dub versions of classic Mule covers and originals with special guest appearances by reggae legends Michael Franti, Toots Hibbert, and Willi Williams. Most tracks on Mighty High were recorded in the studio but a few of the songs are remixed dubstyle from live recordings at the Beacon Theatre, Bonnaroo, and Mountain Jam.

The Mighty
The Mighty is a 1998 drama film directed by Peter Chelsom and based on the book Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. The film stars Sharon Stone, Gena Rowlands, Gillian Anderson, Harry Dean Stanton, Kieran Culkin, James Gandolfini, and Elden Henson.
Plot
Kevin (Kieran Culkin) is a 13-year-old boy who has Mucopolysaccharidosis IV (or Morquio syndrome) and lives with his mother Gwen (Sharon Stone). He is extremely intelligent and prone to flights of fancy but due to his disability walks with leg braces and crutches. Max (Elden Henson) is an over-sized, yet, good-natured teenage boy suffering from dyslexia who lives with his maternal grandparents Gram (Gena Rowlands) and Grim (Harry Dean Stanton). He has flunked the seventh grade twice and is tormented by Tony "Blade" Fowler (Joseph Perrino), a teenage gang leader. When Kevin is assigned as Max's reading tutor, they form a bond of friendship over the similar circumstances they share, such as both being outcasts and their fathers abandoning them (Kevin's dad heard the words "Birth Defect" and disappeared).

The Mighty Clouds of Joy is an American traditional gospel music quartet.
Career
The Mighty Clouds of Joy was formed in 1960 and started out in a tradition-based style. Eventually they added soul, R&B, and rock flourishes into their musical mix (one of their early hits was produced by Gamble and Huff) without diluting the essential religious essence of their material. The long-lived group flourished throughout the rest of the 20th century, scoring numerous Grammy Awards and nominations, as well as several hit albums along the way.
Based in Los Angeles, California, the original group members include Joe Ligon, Johnny Martin (died 1987), Ermant Franklin Jr., Artis Turnbough (d. 1999), Elmo Franklin (d. 2008), Richard Wallace, Leon Polk and David Walker (who also recorded several tracks with Link Wray under the name Bunker Hill).

Formed the mid 1950's and based in Los Angeles, The Mighty Clouds of Joy were able to step out of their traditional gospel roots to encompass soul, R&B; and rock to bring their message to a larger audience without alienating their fan base. The "Temptations of Gospel" put out their first single in 1960 and evolved to including the use of keyboards, guitars and bass along with choreographed moves that attracted a younger audience. This is their biggest hit and was a disco smash, just listen to it! Dave Crawford who went on to produce Candi Staton "Young Hearts Run Free" takes the credit for bringing the Clouds a more contemporary sound. Did you know that the Clouds were the only gospel group to make it on to "Soul Train"? The group members have included Joe Ligon, Jimmy Jones, Johnny Martin (d. 1987), Ermant Franklin Jr., Artis Turnbough (d. 1999), Elmo Franklin (d. 2008), Richard Wallace, Rodney Hamilton, Leon Polk and David Walke. Shout Contemporary gospel's preeminent group, the Mighty Clouds of Joy carried the torch for the traditional quartet vocal style throughout an era dominated by solo acts and choirs; pioneering a distinctively funky sound which over time gained grudging acceptance even among purists, they pushed spiritual music in new and unexpected directions, even scoring a major disco hit. The Mighty Clouds of Joy were formed in Los Angeles during the mid-'50s by schoolmates Joe Ligon and Johnny Martin; while still in their teens, the original group — which also included brothers Ermant and Elmo Franklin, Leon Polk and Richard Wallace — made their recorded debut in 1960 with "Steal Away to Jesus," cut for the Peacock label. Their debut LP Family Circle arrived a year later. In the years that followed, the Mighty Clouds earned a reputation among gospel's greatest showmen; one of the first groups to incorporate choreographed moves into their act, their nimble footwork and bright, color-coordinated outfits earned them the sobriquet "The Temptations of Gospel." More importantly, they were the first group to add bass, drums and keyboards to the standard quartet accompaniment of solo guitar, resulting in a sound which horrified traditionalists but appealed to younger listeners — so much so, in fact, that the Mighty Clouds became the first gospel act ever to appear on television's Soul Train, where they performed their disco smash "Mighty High." Their crossover success continued with opening slots for secular pop stars including Marvin Gaye, the Rolling Stones and Paul Simon, whom the group backed during a month-long stint at Madison Square Garden. While lineup changes plagued the Mighty Clouds throughout their career, they remained active through the 1990s; in addition to co-founders Ligon and Wallace, their latter-day incarnation also included Michael McCowin, Wilbert Williams, Johnny Valentine and Ron Staples. "Mighty High" is 1975 disco/R&B; single by Los Angeles based gospel group, Mighty Clouds of Joy. The single proved to be very popular with disco fans as the song stayed at number one on the disco/dance chart for five weeks. It became their biggest hit on both the soul chart, peaking at #22, and on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #69.
The Mighty Clouds became the first gospel act ever to appear on television's Soul Train, where they performed their disco smash "Mighty High."
Group members included: Richard Wallace, Joe Ligon, Michael McCowin, Ron Staples, Paul Beasley, Elmo Franklin, Michael Cook, Dwight Gordon, Johnny Martin, Ermant Franklin, Ronald Clark, and Wilbert Williams.

The "Temptations of Gospel" put out their first single in 1960 and evolved to including the use of keyboards, guitars and bass along with choreographed moves that attracted a younger audience. This is their biggest hit and was a disco smash, just listen to it! Dave Crawford who went on to produce Candi Staton "Young Hearts Run Free" takes the credit for bringing the Clouds a more contemporary sound. Did you know that the Clouds were the only gospel group to make it on to "Soul Train"? The group members have included Joe Ligon, Jimmy Jones, Johnny Martin (d. 1987), Ermant Franklin Jr., Artis Turnbough (d. 1999), Elmo Franklin (d. 2008), Richard Wallace, Rodney Hamilton, Leon Polk and David Walke. Contemporary gospel's preeminent group, the Mighty Clouds of Joy carried the torch for the traditional quartet vocal style throughout an era dominated by solo acts and choirs; pioneering a distinctively funky sound which over time gained grudging acceptance even among purists, they pushed spiritual music in new and unexpected directions, even scoring a major disco hit. The Mighty Clouds of Joy were formed in Los Angeles during the mid-'50s by schoolmates Joe Ligon and Johnny Martin; while still in their teens, the original group — which also included brothers Ermant and Elmo Franklin, Leon Polk and Richard Wallace — made their recorded debut in 1960 with "Steal Away to Jesus," cut for the Peacock label. Their debut LP Family Circle arrived a year later. In the years that followed, the Mighty Clouds earned a reputation among gospel's greatest showmen; one of the first groups to incorporate choreographed moves into their act, their nimble footwork and bright, color-coordinated outfits earned them the sobriquet "The Temptations of Gospel." More importantly, they were the first group to add bass, drums and keyboards to the standard quartet accompaniment of solo guitar, resulting in a sound which horrified traditionalists but appealed to younger listeners — so much so, in fact, that the Mighty Clouds became the first gospel act ever to appear on television's Soul Train, where they performed their disco smash "Mighty High." Their crossover success continued with opening slots for secular pop stars including Marvin Gaye, the Rolling Stones and Paul Simon, whom the group backed during a month-long stint at Madison Square Garden. While lineup changes plagued the Mighty Clouds throughout their career, they remained active through the 1990s; in addition to co-founders Ligon and Wallace, their latter-day incarnation also included Michael McCowin, Wilbert Williams, Johnny Valentine and Ron Staples.
