Elaine Sturman established The
Twickenham Physiotherapy Practice in
1988.
Our experienced physiotherapists have extensive knowledge in clinical treatment and cater for all age groups. Our vision is to deliver a cost effective, high quality service.
We prefer to adopt a hands on approach on a one to one basis where you will be treated in complete privacy. We will explain the cause of your problem and you may be given a custom made exercise programme, advice about posture and how to prevent further injury.
We can also help you manage and improve any chronic conditions and can offer as much or as little support as you require.
We have links with a number of local surgeons including www.wimbledonclinics.co.uk www.theupperlimbclinic.co.uk and work with them to help you to recover from surgery and return to your work or sports at the earliest possible opportunity. Our rehabilitation programmes are suitable for sportsmen and women of all ages and abilities.
Our physiotherapists are members of the
Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. They are also registered with the
Health Professions Council ,
Physio First and are approved by all major health insurance companies.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
Produces high-frequency sound waves which create mechanical energy to improve blood circulation to the injury.
Cellular changes also take place in the tissues to effect healing. Ultrasound can be used to treat tendons, muscles, tendons and other soft tissues injuries.
Interferential Therapy
Utilises low and medium frequency electrical currents which improve the chemical healing process. Electrodes are placed on the area to be treated and you will feel a tingling sensation. The pulses penetrate deeply into the tissue and can produce an analgesic as well as healing effect without discomfort.
We can diagnosis and treat you without you having to see your GP. However, if you are claiming on your health insurance, we advise you to check the terms and conditions of your insurance policy before starting treatment.

What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy treatment involves reducing pain and stiffness and improving movement by using soft tissue and joint mobilisation/manipulation plus exercise. These techniques facilitate the body's healing process and restore normal
function. In addition your physiotherapist may use electronic therapies such as interferential treatment and ultrasound - which stimulate cellular activity and healing and provide pain relief.
Mobilisation and Manipulation
Involves passively moving your joint or joints to restore full movement and to stretch the surrounding soft tissue. This reduces muscle spasm and releases endorphins (your body's natural pain relievers).
What is
Sports Massage
It is the treatment of tight and painful soft tissue using a variety of massage techniques.
Also ultra sound and stretching may be used where necessary.
Advice is also available for rehabilitation and stretching for flexibility.
