Pashtuns (Pashto: پښتانه Pax̌tānə; also spelled Pushtuns, Pakhtuns or Pukhtuns), also known as ethnic Afghans (Persian: افغان) or Pathans (Urdu: پٹھان, Hindi: पठान Paṭhān), are an Eastern Iranian ethnic group with populations primarily in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Pashtuns are typically characterised by their usage of the Pashto language and practice of Pashtunwali, which is a traditional set of ethics guiding individual and communal conduct. Their origins are unclear but historians have come across references to various ancient peoples called Paktha (Pactyans) between the 2nd and the 1st millennium BC, who inhabited the region between the Hindu Kush and Indus River and may be the early ancestors of Pashtuns. Since the 3rd century AD and onward, they have been referred to by the ethnonym "Afghan".
Often characterised as a warrior and martial race, their history is spread amongst various countries of South, Central and Western Asia, centred around their traditional seat of power in medieval Afghanistan. During the Delhi Sultanate era, the Pashtun Lodi dynasty replaced the Turkic kingdoms as the ruling dynasty in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent. Other Pashtuns fought the Persian Empire and the Mughal Empire before obtaining an independent state in the early-18th century, which began with a successful revolution by the Mirwais Hotak followed by conquests by Ahmad Shah Durrani. Pashtuns played a vital role during the Great Game from the 19th century to the 20th century as they were caught between the imperialist designs of the British and Russian empires.

Plot: The film starts with Saketh Ram as a very old man and almost immediately goes into flashback. As a young man he is among his friends, in conviviality. He has taken a Bengali wife, Aparna, and everything is wonderful in his life. But the year is 1946, and the imminent independence of India from British suzerainty is complicated by religious antagonism between the Hindu majority and the large Muslim minority, who demand their own independent state. Saketh and Aparna visit Calcutta; rioting is reported, but Saketh goes out to get some food, and he soon encounters a Hindu woman being chased by Muslim rioters. He rescues her, but the rioters later come to his house, and brutally rape and then kill his wife. Saketh is devastated and takes to the streets, determined personally to kill as many Muslims as he can find. He meets up with Sriram Abhiyankar, who is leading a group of Hindu extremists, and Saketh becomes temporarily taken with the cause himself. At the same time, he is persuaded to take a new wife, Mythili, and life begins to stabilise for Saketh after all. However he then falls in with an eminent Maharajah who is leading an underground group with the intention of assassination. Travelling with the Maharajah, Saketh meets one of his old friends from younger days, who has fallen on hard times. Reminiscing, and getting his old friend back on his feet deflect the process of recruiting Saketh, but only temporarily, and soon he is manipulated into committing himself to renouncing his family and his new wife, in the interests of the cause which now is disclosed as the assassination of Gandhi. Although a fellow Hindu, Gandhi was felt by some to be too conciliatory to Muslims and in the logic of extremists, Gandhi became the prime target. Soon Saketh is informed that Gandhi will be in Delhi for some weeks, and that Saketh is to take the opportunity to do "his duty". However, hiding from a snap search by the police, he has to hide his pistol on a delivery lorry, and it is driven away to a factory owned by Muslims. Going there hoping to retrieve the gun, he becomes engulfed in a shoot-out between some Hindu attackers and the Muslims, and finds that his loyalties are not so clear cut as he had imagined. Finally he escapes after the death of another of his old friends in the crossfire. The next day, January 30th 1948, he contrives to be near Gandhi in a public prayer ground, his appointment with destiny. But the film still has 20 minutes to run, and the ending is not what you expect.

I.THE ONE
Never underestimate the loving
How we intertwine our very soul
How we fill each other's spaces to lose control
When you're talking, be the children
Who stand on solid ground
Never underestimate the giving that will bring you around
I'll be there, to bring this love in the morning
I'll be there, to bring you the stars at night
I'll be there, hust waiting to hear you singing
Never underestimate a giver
The gift of love will surely be
Whe you're asking for the secrets to set you free
When you're talking to the friendship
That love of higher self
This gift of love is the answer to all your doubts
Be the one, giving in to love
Never let the good in life desert you
Be the one, giving in to love
Never let the fools destroy your dreams
Be the one, giving in to love
I can dream myself every minute
So how did we become, masters of limitation?
I'll be there, I'll be there, I'll be there
To make it right for you
Giving in, giving in to love
It's the balance of this everyday feeling
Giving in, giving in to love
Without love our dreams become illusion
Giving in, giving in to love
I can hear you singing every minute
So you can sing the song, and see the truth
II.HUMANKIND
So we worked all around amidst the glory of life
Any fire of the flame would be made
Should the famine of change to disguise everyone
Who cannot see the soul of truth ready made
But all because we're changing now
As the prophets of doom speak their mind
It's a long, long, way from where the system began
It's a long, long, way humankind
So we dance down on nature as we try to repeat
All our efforts as one sent today
Taking back instead of giving, taking back more or less
Taking back a sense of being afraid
So all this is necessary changes now, as the will to help all man
And the children of the crucified will be better off, better dead
But all this senseless killing, and all these chains and lies
I want to know right now, I want to know right now
I want to know where we come from
For it's a long, long, way from where the system began
It's a long, long, way humankind
It's a long, long, way from where the system began
It's a long, long, way humankind, yeah
Chorus
Giving in, giving in to love
I can see and feel the truth every minute
Giving in, giving in to love
Be the one to rescue you, rescue you
Giving in, giving in to the right love
There's no way that you can live without it
So how can we become, masters of our invention
III.SKATES
REPEAT CHORUS
Never underestimate the power
