Thuli Zuma is a South African, a teller of stories, a part-time awesomeist (one who makes things awesome) and a full time human being. An actor by training and poet by passion, Thuli has shared her work and heart on stage and screen alike both nationally and internationally, from Johannesburg the glittering city of gold, to Paris, the glowing city of lights.
Thuli was placed second at the 2012 Individual World Poetry Slam, represented New York at the 2013 National Poetry Slam, and represented the United States of America at the 2013 World Cup of Poetry Slam in Paris. She is the 2013 Urbana New York Grand Slam Champion. A purveyor of fine quality hugs, she loves adventures and dappled shade.
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. From primes to proper pop-up purple paper people, Harry Baker performs his a pun-tastic and poignant poetry.
Harry Baker has always loved words. He's been blessed enough to travel round the world with them, winning the Poetry Slam World Cup in 2012 and currently using a maths degree as an excuse to live in Germany and find heaps more new words to play with. After two 5-star Edinburgh Fringe festival shows and almost growing a beard once, the next adventure is having his first book released in April this year.

Our talks exposed corruption in big business, shared effective approaches to tackling social inequality and gave a voice to those whose human rights are under threat. Poetry
Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language—such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre—to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, the prosaic ostensible meaning.
Poetry has a long history, dating back to the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh. Early poems evolved from folk songs such as the Chinese Shijing, or from a need to retell oral epics, as with the Sanskrit Vedas, Zoroastrian Gathas, and the Homeric epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Ancient attempts to define poetry, such as Aristotle's Poetics, focused on the uses of speech in rhetoric, drama, song and comedy. Later attempts concentrated on features such as repetition, verse form and rhyme, and emphasized the aesthetics which distinguish poetry from more objectively informative, prosaic forms of writing. From the mid-20th century, poetry has sometimes been more generally regarded as a fundamental creative act employing language.
Poetry uses forms and conventions to suggest differential interpretation to words, or to evoke emotive responses. Devices such as assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. The use of ambiguity, symbolism, irony and other stylistic elements of poetic diction often leaves a poem open to multiple interpretations. Similarly figures of speech such as metaphor, simile and metonymy create a resonance between otherwise disparate images—a layering of meanings, forming connections previously not perceived. Kindred forms of resonance may exist, between individual verses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm.

Kanye West
Kanye Omari West (/ˈkɑːnjeɪ/; born June 8, 1977) is an American recording artist, record producer, fashion designer and entrepreneur. He is the founder of the record label GOOD Music and creative content company DONDA. West is one of the most acclaimed musicians of the 21st century. He has attracted both praise and criticism for his work and his controversial, outspoken public persona.
Raised in Chicago, West first became known as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing hit singles for musical artists such as Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, before pursing a solo career as a rapper. In 2004, he released his debut album The College Dropout, to widespread commercial and critical success, and founded record label and management company GOOD Music. He went on to explore a variety of different musical styles on subsequent albums that included the baroque-inspired Late Registration (2005), the electronic-tinged Graduation (2007), and the starkly polarizing 808s & Heartbreak (2008). In 2010, he released his critically acclaimed fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He collaborated with Jay-Z on Watch the Throne (2011), and released his sixth album, Yeezus, to further critical praise in 2013. Following a series of recording delays and work on non-musical projects, West's seventh album, The Life of Pablo, was released in 2016.

Plot: An unemployed Manoj (alias Manu) is told by his mother that they need some money for his sister's forthcoming marriage, and he sets out to find some. For this purpose, he visits his former Calcutta-based girlfriend, Neerj alias Neeru, whom he was to marry, but who preferred to marry someone wealthier, in Calcutta. He rings the doorbell, and the door is answered by Neerja herself, and he is invited inside. They talk and update each other on their lives. Neerja puts on Manoj's raincoat, so she could go out and buy something to cook for him. She warns him not to open the door nor let anyone in. After Neerja leaves a man knocks on the door, and requests entry into the house to use the toilet. Manoj opens the door and lets the male use the facilities. When this male finishes his business, he refuses to leave, and sits and talks with Manoj. It is during this conversation that Manoj finds out the stark truth behind Neerja, her husband, and their married life.

Plot: Bill Collins' relaxing afternoon at Sugar Creek turns into more than he bargained for when Poetry stumbles upon a disguise hidden in the swamp. Reports of a bank robber on the loose soon surface, and as the gang investigates they discover a map that leads to more than just treasure. During a campout near the hollow tree the kids must survive an encounter that leaves them wondering if a nearby cabin is really abandoned. If they can piece together the clues that confront them, mystery and adventure await the gang in their own backyard!

Poetry Out Loud - 2015 State Finals
Poetry Out Loud - the national poetry recitation competition - has ignited a passion for poetry among high school students across the country. Students are challenged to learn and bring to life an established poetic work, with one winner from each state going on to the national competition. On March 19th, ten finalists from Vermont high schools brought their performances to the Vermont PBS studio for the state finals competition - and Vermont PBS recorded the event live from our studio. Vermont PBS will also broadcast these finals on Thursday, April 9, at 8 p.m. and a captioned version of this video will be available on our web site. Poetry Out Loud - the national poetry recitation competition - has ignited a passion for poetry among high school students across the country. Students are challenged to learn and bring to life an established poetic work, with one winner from each state going on to the national competition.
On March 19th, ten finalists from Vermont high schools brought their performances to the Vermont PBS studio for the state finals competition - and Vermont PBS recorded the event live from our studio.
Vermont PBS will also broadcast these finals on Thursday, April 9, at 8 p.m. and a captioned version of this video will be available on our web site.

A few years ago, I got a request from a well known publisher to go through Kai Chand The Sar-e-Aasman. Though devoted to publishing Indian language titles in translation, the lady on the other end of the phone had no acquaintance with Urdu ... She sent me a copy of the book ... “Faruqi’s novel is a true character sketch of Urdu-Persian poetry and Indo-Islamic culture,” the jacket warmly declared. I gladly bought the idea....
