1. Communicate with your employees
He began his schooling in Mumbai at the Campion School and finished his secondary education at the Cathedral and John Connon School.
2. Take chances
He completed his B.S. in architecture with structural engineering from Cornell University in 1962, and the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School in 1975.
3. Persevere
He began his career in the Tata group in 1961. He initially started on the shop floor of Tata Steel, shovelling limestone and handling the blast furnace.
4. Build trust
In 1991, J. R. D. Tata stepped down as Chairman of Tata Sons, naming Ratan as his successor.
5. Be humble
Under his stewardship, Tata Tea acquired Tetley, Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel acquired Corus, which have turned Tata from a largely India-centric company into a global business, with 65% revenues coming from abroad.
6. Have heroes
He was instrumental in the development of Tata Nano, largely dubbed as the world's cheapest passenger car.
7. Be yourself
He retired from all executive responsibility in the Tata group on 28 December 2012, his 75th birthday, and he was succeeded by Cyrus Mistry.
8. Make a difference
He has retired but he is still seen working. Recently, he invested his personal savings in Snapdeal- one of India's leading e-commerce website.
9. Be motivated by competition
He is currently the chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons. He continues to serve as the chairman of the main two Tata trusts which hold 66% of shares in the group holding company Tata Sons.
10. Do what can't
be doneHe is on the jury panel of Pritzker Architecture Prize – considered to be one of the world's premier architecture prizes.

Tata Group
Tata Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate holding company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Tata and gained international recognition after purchasing several global companies. It is one of India's largest conglomerates. In 2014-15, the revenue of Tata companies, taken together, was $108.78 billion. These companies collectively employ over 600,000 people. Each Tata company or enterprise operates independently under the guidance and supervision of its own board of directors and shareholders. There are 30 publicly-listed Tata enterprises with a combined market capitalisation of about $134 billion (as on March 31, 2015). Tata companies with significant scale include Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Global Beverages, Tata Teleservices, Titan, Tata Communications and Indian Hotels Company.

Ratan Tata
Ratan Naval Tata GBE (born 28 December 1937) is an Indian businessman, investor, philanthropist and chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons. He was the chairman of Tata Group, a Mumbai-based conglomerate from 1991–2012. He stepped down as the chairman of Tata Group, on 28 December 2012 but continues as the chairman of the Group's charitable trusts.
Early life
Ratan Tata is the son of Naval Tata, who had been adopted from the family of a distant relative by Navajbai Tata after the death of her husband, Ratanji Tata. Ratan Tata's parents Naval and Sonoo separated in the mid-1940s when Ratan was ten and his younger brother, Jimmy, was seven years old. Both he and his brother were raised by their grandmother Navajbai Tata. Ratan also has a step brother Noel Tata from Naval Tata's second marriage to Simone Tata.Ratan began his schooling in Mumbai at the Campion School and finished his secondary education at the Cathedral and John Connon School. He completed his B.S. in architecture with structural engineering from Cornell University in 1962, and the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School in 1975. Tata is a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.

He began his career in the Tata group in 1961. He initially started on the shop floor of Tata Steel, shovelling limestone and handling the blast furnace.
4. Build trust
In 1991, J. R. D. Tata stepped down as Chairman of Tata Sons, naming Ratan as his successor.
5. Be humble
Under his stewardship, Tata Tea acquired Tetley, Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel acquired Corus, which have turned Tata from a largely India-centric company into a global business, with 65% revenues coming from abroad.
6. Have heroes
He was instrumental in the development of Tata Nano, largely dubbed as the world's cheapest passenger car.
7. Be yourself
He retired from all executive responsibility in the Tata group on 28 December 2012, his 75th birthday, and he was succeeded by Cyrus Mistry.
8. Make a difference
He has retired but he is still seen working. Recently, he invested his personal savings in Snapdeal- one of India's leading e-commerce website.
9. Be motivated by competition
He is currently the chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons. He continues to serve as the chairman of the main two Tata trusts which hold 66% of shares in the group holding company Tata Sons.
10. Do what can't
be doneHe is on the jury panel of Pritzker Architecture Prize – considered to be one of the world's premier architecture prizes.

1. He has a degree in architecture with structural engineering from Cornell University Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School.
2. In 1961 he got a Job Opportunity from IBM but rejected it, He joined his family Business but started from bottom. He initially started on the shop floor of Tata Steel, shovelling limestone and handling the blast furnace.
3. Ratan Tata was born on 28 December 1937 in a rich family. His parents got separated few years later and he and his brother Jimmy were raised by his Grandmother.
4. He was then promoted to Director-In-Charge at the National Radio & Electronics Company Limited. The company was going through a rough financial phase at that time. Ratan suggested Nelco should invest in developing high technology products other than consumer electronics. J.R.D was initially reluctant to do so, due to the financial performance of Nelco, but he still followed Ratan’s suggestions and the company eventually recovered all its damages.
5. In 1991, when J. R. D. Tata (his uncle) stepped down as Chairman of Tata Sons, he named Ratan as his successor. He became the group’s fifth chairman.
6. Under His Leadership Tata Group saw consistent success with increase in revenue every year. He acquired Jaguar, Corus, Land Rover and Tetley which turned an Indian company into global business players.
7. TATA Group is running 96 businesses and out of which 28 Companies arepublically listed on the various stock exchanges.Most of these companies were started when Ratan Tata was leading the group.
8. Ratan Tata is on the advisory boards of the Mitsubishi Corporation, Booz Allen Hamilton, the American International Group and JPMorgan Chase.
9. It was Ratan Tata’s dream to launch cheapest car in world so that every common people could buy one. He fulfilled his dream by launching Tata Nano in 2008.
