Overnight rains in Bengaluru has left the city battling traffic jams, waterlogged roads and flooding on Friday. The incessant rains saw several areas of the city inundated with water from nearby lakes entering houses. Times of India reported that residents of Akshaynagar, kodichikkanahalli and Arakere layout along Bannerghatta road were the worst hit, with water levels rising to at least 4 feet and flooding at least 40 houses. News channel NDTV showed visuals of people being stranded in Electric City, which houses some of India’s biggest IT companies such as Infosys.
The fire department pressed into service a boat to rescue those stranded due to the flood waters, NDTV reported. Twitter is awash with images of Bengalurians wadding through waters as most roads remained cutoff for vehicular movement. A few were seen using fishing nets to catch any fish that might have strayed out of the overflowing lakes. Storm drains have not been so effective in draining the flood waters as rains continue to batter Bengaluru.
Situation is pretty grim in Gurugram as well as rains caused massive traffic jams on Thursday night, leaving commuters stranded for over five hours. The situation did not improve on Friday morning as most roads leading to Gurugram remained choked with traffic.
