Maker's Mark
Maker's Mark is a small-batch bourbon whiskey that is distilled in Loretto, Kentucky, by Beam Suntory. It is sold in distinctively squarish bottles, which are sealed with red wax, and bottled at 90 U.S. proof (45% alcohol by volume). The distillery offers tours, and is part of the American Whiskey Trail and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
History
Production of Maker's Mark started in 1954, after its originator, T. William "Bill" Samuels Sr., purchased the distillery known as "Burks' Distillery" in Loretto, Kentucky for $35,000 on October 1, 1953.
The first bottle of Maker's Mark was bottled in 1958 and featured the brand's distinctive dipped red wax seal. Maker's Mark holds a U.S. trademark (serial number 73526578) on the wax seal of their bottles.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Maker's Mark was widely marketed with the tag line, "It tastes expensive ... and is."
The distillery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 1974, and designated a National Historic Landmark on December 16, 1980, listed as "Burks' Distillery". It was the first distillery in America to be so recognized where the landmark buildings were in active use for distilling.

First we visit the Makers Mark Kentucky Bourbon Whisky distillery. At the beautiful property we learn about their history, the whiskey making process, and at the end we get to sample 4 different varieties, including the raw moonshine-like white alcohol, before the put in the oak barrels to age. That is some potent stuff.
After our whiskey adventure we continue towards Louisville, crossing through beautiful rural Kentucky and Bardstown, self-proclaimed the Whisky Capital of the World.
We are staying at the Louisville Metro KOA, which is actually on the Indiana side of the Ohio River in the city of Clarksville. Here we get to spend some time with my cousin Juan and his wife Thelma. Cousin Juan has lived here most of his life in Louisville and Thelma was born and raised here so they know the town pretty well. On the ride around the city they share a lifetime of memories with us, going back to the 1960’s.
No visit to Louisville is complete without going to Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, and although we skip the museum this time, we enter the building and go into some of the gardens. We also have breakfast at Wagner’s Pharmacy, which is actually a diner, very popular with horsemen since the 1920’s. The walls are covered with pictures of horses from the many years of horse racing tradition.
We also tour Old Louisville Historic District, particularly the St. James Court Area. It has the largest contiguous collection of Victorian era homes in the United States. We also drive on Bardstown road, in the Highlands neighborhood, which is famous for the numerous bars, night clubs and restaurant in the area. After an afternoon nap to recharge batteries we are joined by Juan’s sister, cousin María for dinner at Louisville’s best Cuban restaurant called Havana Rumba.

Meet Michael Greenfield, a musician who began tuning, repairing, restoring, and making guitars in the 70s and since then has become a seasoned luthier of bespoke guitars. Having experience with vintage and antique guitar repair and restoration, he brings a unique insight to his craft, creating personalized musical instruments and functional works of art for artists, collectors and those who deserve the very best.
His workshop is based in Montreal, where we visited over a period of 5 months, filming as he and his apprentice, Julien, transformed slices of spruce, ebony, mahogany, and other tree species into glistening guitars. It was all of our collective vision to present the process in the most candid, down-to-earth fashion, so in this hour-long documentary you will see all the glue, smudges, shavings, dust, and callouses. His guitars feature Florentine cutaways with spalted beech rosettes, violin-style body purflings and simple decorative purflings along edges, Laskin style arm rests and rib rests, amongst other features.
This documentary follows several different steel-string guitars from beginning to finish. As Michael puts it, the guitar still thinks it’s a tree until it receives its first set of strings and that is when the instrument is born. After many months of work, the magical moment when we hear a guitar’s first notes is like hearing a child’s first words.

From exploring the famous canals to hitting the beach; find out how to visit Venice and not spend a fortune.
Venice, famous for its canals, gondaliers and gelato, is one of the world’s most romantic destinations. It's also pretty expensive...
But you don’t have to pay a hefty price tag for the privilege of a Venetian visit. Here are some tips for enjoying Venice without abusing your bank balance.
1. Throw away the map
Easily the best piece of advice for getting to know Venice is simply to get lost. With its unique network of streets and canals, Venice is best appreciated by wandering and simply seeing what you stumble upon. The further away you get from the tourist-ridden St Mark’s Square, the closer you get to the ‘real Venice’. The island is small enough that you don’t need to worry about getting truly lost - you’ll eventually find your way back to the Grand Canal, which you can follow until you find somewhere familiar.
2. Bridge of Sighs
Walk round the Grand Canal side of the Doge’s Palace on St Mark’s Square and you’ll see one of Venice’s many famous landmarks: the Bridge of Sighs. The ‘sighs’ in the bridge’s name, far from being those of melancholy lovers, actually refers to those of condemned prisoners catching their last glimpse of the beauty of Venice on their way from the interrogation rooms in the Doge’s Palace to prison. You can’t walk across the bridge without visiting the Palace, but forget paying in to any of its attractions, it’s a sight best enjoyed from the outside.
3. Take a boat trip (but not a gondola)
Many people go to Venice with romantic plans for a gondola ride on the canal, but unfortunately mass tourism has rather taken the shine off this experience and gondolas are incredibly over-priced. However, with the water such an integral part of this city, it would be a shame not to get out onto it at some point during your stay. Instead of paying exorbitant prices for a gondola, hop on a vaporetto - the (much cheaper) waterbus - for an experience of being on the canal without shelling out a load of cash.
4. The Rialto Bridge
Another famous bridge - sometimes confused with the Bridge of Sighs - is the Ponte di Rialto. Built in 1591, today it is lined with tacky souvenir shops, but the views of the Grand Canal make it worth a potter across, whether you buy anything or not.
5. MuseodellaMusica
This free music museum introduces you to the musical heritage of Venice, in particular its instrument makers. Part of the museum is devoted to the life and work of the prolific Baroque composer, Antonio Vivaldi, Venice’s most famous musician and composer of The Four Seasons. Rare old instruments, a Baroque soundtrack and the museum’s setting in San Maurizio Church all bring to life Venice’s musical past.
6. Hot chocolate at CioccogelateriaVenchi
Despite what you may have heard about Venice flooding during winter, it's actually a great time of year to visit. It’s not quite so busy (except for the Carnival in February) and the eerie stillness of a cold misty morning makes the city seem even more surreal. Going during the colder months also gives you an excuse to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate at CioccogelateriaVenchi, a cavern of chocolatey treats that's been keeping tourists toasty with their signature drink since 1878.
7. Visit another island
It’s easy to forget that Venice has several neighbouring islands, many of which are similar to the main island - but with far fewer tourists. Murano Island is a must if you’re interested in glassware, as it’s here that the celebrated Murano Glass is made; several of the glass factories offer free or very cheap glass-blowing demonstrations. For beach-based relaxation, the Lido is the place to go; it’s this resort island that gave its name to the ‘lidos’ or outdoor bathing areas you'll find back in the UK.
8. Visit a carnival costume shop
Venice is famous for its Carnival, and everywhere you go - no matter what time of year - you’ll find shops selling iconic masquerade accessories in an array of designs and colours. One of the most intriguing mask designs is the sinister beaked mask of the plague doctor. This originates from the medieval belief that bad smells spread disease, so doctors wore long beaks stuffed with pleasant-smelling substances to protect themselves. Today there’s thankfully no such risk.

He would probably have settled on any beat up old truck, but everything she seemed to like was way out of their price range. "Look!" she said. "I want something that goes from 0 to 200 in 4 seconds or less. And my birthday is coming up. You could surprise me." So, for her birthday, he bought her a brand new bathroom scale. Services will be at Downing Funeral Home on Monday the 12th. Due to the condition of the body, this will be a closed casket service. 2 Peter 3:7-13 (NASB) But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed

A couple had been debating the purchase of a new auto for weeks. He wanted a new truck. She wanted a fast little sports-like car so she could zip through traffic around town. He would probably have settled on any beat up old truck, but everything she seemed to like was way out of their price range. "Look!" she said. Death is painful, death is an enemy. For those who have a living, real relationship by faith in Jesus Christ, death is the final pain and the last enemy.
1 Corinthians 15:25-26 (ESV) For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
THE HOPE OF HEAVEN: CHRIST WILL SWALLOW UP DEATH FOREVER
Isaiah 25:6-9 (ESV) On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. WHILE WE DO NOT HAVE TO FEAR DEATH, WE DO NEED TO PREPARE FOR IT.
We will reap in Heaven what we have sown in this life…
