Tyrone Clinton Spong (born September 3, 1985) is a Surinamese-Dutch kickboxer and mixed martial artist.
He is the reigning WFCA Cruiserweight Muay Thai champion, current Glory 95kg Slam Champion and former It's Showtime 95MAX World champion, fighting out of Fighting Factory Carbin in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
As of 10 November 2014, Spong is ranked the #2 light heavyweight in the world by GLORY.
Early life
Tyrone Spong was born in Suriname. In 1990 at the age of 5, he moved to the Netherlands with his family. Growing up in the Bijlmer, he was often involved in street fighting and began training in kickboxing at thirteen when he found a gym by coincidence. After getting his "ass whooped" in his first day of training, he was motivated to improve.
He had his first match at fifteen and won by first round knockout. Some of his early sparring partners included Alistair and Valentijn Overeem, and Gilbert Yvel.

In 2006 Spong had two his biggest victories of his young career, KO wins over Muay Thai veteran Joerie Mes and
two weeks later knocking out K-1 superstar Kaoklai Kaennorsing from Thailand in a first round.
On March 28, 2009, Spong participated in the first ever K-1 Heavyweight (-100 kg) Title tournament, held in Yokohama, Japan.
He was beaten by Gokhan Saki in semifinals by right hook KO of the extra round.
Spong finally met rival Nathan Corbett at Champions of Champions II in what was widely considered a battle between the two best Muay Thai fighters in the world at their weight class for the W.M.C. world title -93 kg. The fight was a close affair with Spong knocking Corbett down on the second round only for it to end with a controversial decision. In the third round Corbett managed to knock Spong out with a huge right hook causing the referee to stop the fight.
However, due to the referee's misleading hand signals, Corbett rushed back in to knock Spong down once more, not sure that the fight had been stopped.
After considerable confusion the fight was declared a no contest instead of a Corbett KO win.
After defeating the Worlds heavyweight champion, Kyotaro he fought Jerome Le Banner in April 2010. Similar to the Nathan Corbett fight Spong broke his right hand in the first round and was knocked down. Despite coming back strongly he lost by decision. At the end of the year he qualified for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final, defeating veteran Ray Sefo in an elimination match, only to lose to eventual winner Alistair Overeem at the quarter final stage in what was a more competitive fight than most initial thought - as Overeem was much the bigger fighter. At the start of 2011, Spong had to vacate the It's Showtime 95MAX world title due to a number of issues such as not having had a title defense in the allocated two years and his management stating that he had moved up in weight to fight as a heavyweight.
He faced Remy Bonjasky at Glory 5: London in London, England on March 23, 2013. Spong won via one-punch KO with a right hook in the second round.

Exhausted Briton Jonny Brownlee needed to be helped over the finish line by brother Alistair in a dramatic end to the Triathlon World Series in Mexico.
Leading with 700m left, Jonny, 26, began to weave over the road in hot and humid conditions in Cozumel.
Third-placed Alistair, 28, caught his brother, propping him up for the final couple of hundred metres before pushing him over the line in second place.
They were overtaken by South African Henri Schoeman, the eventual winner.
Victory in Mexico would have given Jonny the world title, but second place left him just four points behind Mario Mola.
The Spaniard was fifth on Sunday to top the overall standings.
Jonny, Olympic silver medallist at Rio 2016 and a bronze medallist at London 2012, collapsed to the ground the moment he crossed the finish line.
He required treatment but later tweeted he was OK, with a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed on a drip.
Alongside a video clip of the finish of the race, he also wrote: "Normally when you have had too much to drink. This time it was the opposite #ouch"

Early life
Tyrone Spong was born in Suriname. In 1990 at the age of 5, he moved to the Netherlands with his family. Growing up in the Bijlmer, he was often involved in street fighting and began training in kickboxing at thirteen when he found a gym by coincidence. After getting his "ass whooped" in his first day of training, he was motivated to improve.
He had his first match at fifteen and won by first round knockout. Some of his early sparring partners included Alistair and Valentijn Overeem, and Gilbert Yvel.

In 2006 Spong had two his biggest victories of his young career, KO wins over Muay Thai veteran Joerie Mes and
two weeks later knocking out K-1 superstar Kaoklai Kaennorsing from Thailand in a first round.
On March 28, 2009, Spong participated in the first ever K-1 Heavyweight (-100 kg) Title tournament, held in Yokohama, Japan.
He was beaten by Gokhan Saki in semifinals by right hook KO of the extra round.
Spong finally met rival Nathan Corbett at Champions of Champions II in what was widely considered a battle between the two best Muay Thai fighters in the world at their weight class for the W.M.C. world title -93 kg. The fight was a close affair with Spong knocking Corbett down on the second round only for it to end with a controversial decision. In the third round Corbett managed to knock Spong out with a huge right hook causing the referee to stop the fight.
However, due to the referee's misleading hand signals, Corbett rushed back in to knock Spong down once more, not sure that the fight had been stopped.
After considerable confusion the fight was declared a no contest instead of a Corbett KO win.
After defeating the Worlds heavyweight champion, Kyotaro he fought Jerome Le Banner in April 2010. Similar to the Nathan Corbett fight Spong broke his right hand in the first round and was knocked down. Despite coming back strongly he lost by decision. At the end of the year he qualified for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final, defeating veteran Ray Sefo in an elimination match, only to lose to eventual winner Alistair Overeem at the quarter final stage in what was a more competitive fight than most initial thought - as Overeem was much the bigger fighter. At the start of 2011, Spong had to vacate the It's Showtime 95MAX world title due to a number of issues such as not having had a title defense in the allocated two years and his management stating that he had moved up in weight to fight as a heavyweight.
He faced Remy Bonjasky at Glory 5: London in London, England on March 23, 2013. Spong won via one-punch KO with a right hook in the second round.

Tyrone Clinton Spong (born September 3, 1985) is a Surinamese-Dutch kickboxer and mixed martial artist.
He is the reigning WFCA Cruiserweight Muay Thai champion, current Glory 95kg Slam Champion and former It's Showtime 95MAX World champion, fighting out of Fighting Factory Carbin in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
As of 10 November 2014, Spong is ranked the #2 light heavyweight in the world by GLORY.
Early life
Tyrone Spong was born in Suriname. In 1990 at the age of 5, he moved to the Netherlands with his family. Growing up in the Bijlmer, he was often involved in street fighting and began training in kickboxing at thirteen when he found a gym by coincidence. After getting his "ass whooped" in his first day of training, he was motivated to improve.
He had his first match at fifteen and won by first round knockout. Some of his early sparring partners included Alistair and Valentijn Overeem, and Gilbert Yvel.

In 2006 Spong had two his biggest victories of his young career, KO wins over Muay Thai veteran Joerie Mes and
two weeks later knocking out K-1 superstar Kaoklai Kaennorsing from Thailand in a first round.
On March 28, 2009, Spong participated in the first ever K-1 Heavyweight (-100 kg) Title tournament, held in Yokohama, Japan.
He was beaten by Gokhan Saki in semifinals by right hook KO of the extra round.
Spong finally met rival Nathan Corbett at Champions of Champions II in what was widely considered a battle between the two best Muay Thai fighters in the world at their weight class for the W.M.C. world title -93 kg. The fight was a close affair with Spong knocking Corbett down on the second round only for it to end with a controversial decision. In the third round Corbett managed to knock Spong out with a huge right hook causing the referee to stop the fight.
However, due to the referee's misleading hand signals, Corbett rushed back in to knock Spong down once more, not sure that the fight had been stopped.
After considerable confusion the fight was declared a no contest instead of a Corbett KO win.
After defeating the Worlds heavyweight champion, Kyotaro he fought Jerome Le Banner in April 2010. Similar to the Nathan Corbett fight Spong broke his right hand in the first round and was knocked down. Despite coming back strongly he lost by decision. At the end of the year he qualified for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final, defeating veteran Ray Sefo in an elimination match, only to lose to eventual winner Alistair Overeem at the quarter final stage in what was a more competitive fight than most initial thought - as Overeem was much the bigger fighter. At the start of 2011, Spong had to vacate the It's Showtime 95MAX world title due to a number of issues such as not having had a title defense in the allocated two years and his management stating that he had moved up in weight to fight as a heavyweight.
He faced Remy Bonjasky at Glory 5: London in London, England on March 23, 2013. Spong won via one-punch KO with a right hook in the second round.

Based on the 1945 700 page novel by Norman Collins, who ten years later was instrumental in the creation of ITV, this film is full of beautifully drawn characters and even if it's hard to believe that the real London was actually like this at that period (1938), the atmosphere is tremendous. The formidable cast consists of Alastair Sim (who virtually steals the film); Fay Compton; Susan Shaw; Stephen Murray; Joyce Carey, always remembered for her part in "Brief Encounter"; Andrew Crawford; Ivy St Helier (a wonderful creation!); Wylie Watson; Hugh Griffith; Eleanor Summerfield; Gladys Henson; Sydney Tafler; Fabia Drake; the ever-present Maurice Denham and a swathe of uncredited small-part performers of which only a couple went on to lasting fame, those being Arthur Lowe and John Gregson. I'm sorry to say I have never heard of any of the others. Even Leo Genn who narrates the story, is not credited in the titles. The story-line revolves around the occupants of a house in Dulcimer Street with Attenborough, hoping to impress Susan Shaw, accidentally causes the death of a previous girl-friend, Eleanor Summerfield, in a car-crash and tries to cover it up, but is later charged with murder. The relationship between Alastair Sim, a fake medium, and Joyce Carey is memorable... Norman Collins created the famous radio serial "Dick Barton: Special Agent" while Controller of the BBC's Light Programme and also set up "Woman's Hour" which ran from 7 October 1946 until the Light Programme became Radio Two in 1973.

Back at his place of business, Scrooge refuses a donation to two men collecting for the poor, suggesting that prisons and workhouses are sufficient for maintaining the poor, and that those who won't go would be better off dead. Scrooge's nephew, Fred (Brian Worth), invites Scrooge to dinner the next day, but Scrooge refuses, disparaging Fred for having married. Scrooge reluctantly gives his poor clerk Bob Cratchit (Mervyn Johns) the day off with pay, but expects him back all the earlier the day after.
After Scrooge dines alone in a seedy restaurant (where he refuses more bread when told he has to pay a halfpenny more for it), he goes home for the night. Scrooge sees the door-knocker turn into the face of his seven-years-dead partner, Jacob Marley (Michael Hordern). Scrooge's supper of gruel is interrupted by the ringing of bells before Marley appears as a ghost. Scrooge believes he is hallucinating until Marley howls in anguish and frustration. Marley warns Scrooge that he must repent or suffer Marley's unbearable fate: condemned to walk the earth forever, bound in the chains he "forged in life" by his greedy ways. He warns Scrooge that he will be visited by three spirits; the first will arrive when the bell tolls one. Marley leaves to join other ghosts suffering the same torment. Frightened by the sight of the damned, Scrooge takes refuge in his bed.
At one in the morning, the Ghost of Christmas Past (Michael Dolan) arrives to show Scrooge scenes from his past. A young Scrooge (George Cole) is alone at school, unwanted by his father. His sister Fan (Carol Marsh) arrives to take him home, claiming their father has changed. Next, the Ghost shows Scrooge the annual Christmas party thrown by his fondly remembered employer, old Fezziwig (Roddy Hughes). Scrooge witnesses his proposal to his girlfriend, Alice (Rona Anderson). He is reminded that the lure of money from the sarcastic Mr. Jorkin (Jack Warner) seduced him to abandon his loyalty to Fezziwig. Scrooge relives the death of Fan; as she lay dying, he angrily walked away and refused to look after her son, Fred. The older Scrooge is overcome, and begs for her forgiveness. In partnership with Jorkin, young Scrooge befriends a young Jacob Marley (Patrick Macnee). Scrooge and Marley buy out Fezziwig's business and turn his warehouse into a counting house. Alice breaks off her engagement to Scrooge, feeling that love of money has replaced his love for her. Years later, Scrooge and Marley offer to rescue Jorkin's company after Jorkin embezzles the company's funds; they take control of the business and add it to their own. On Christmas Eve, 1836, Marley lay dying, but Scrooge will not visit his only friend during business hours. When Scrooge finally arrives, Marley, aware he will face eternal punishment for his avarice, tries to warn Scrooge before he dies. The Ghost reproaches Scrooge for taking Marley's money and house.

Keith Cronin won the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship for the first time on the final round in Cork yesterday evening, but he only just squeezed over the line in a desperately tight finish which saw the Moffett brothers, Josh and Sam, take the top two places. Cronin's anticipated head-to-head duel with championship leader Alastair Fisher petered out early when the Tyrone driver crashed out on just the fourth stage on Saturday....
