North Country (film)
North Country is a 2005 American drama film directed by Niki Caro, starring Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Sean Bean, Richard Jenkins, Michelle Monaghan, Jeremy Renner, Woody Harrelson and Sissy Spacek. The screenplay by Michael Seitzman was inspired by the 2002 book Class Action: The Story of Lois Jenson and the Landmark Case That Changed Sexual Harassment Law by Clara Bingham and Laura Leedy Gansler, which chronicled the case of Jenson v. Eveleth Taconite Company.
Plot
In 1989, Josey Aimes flees from her abusive husband back to her hometown in northern Minnesota with her children, Sammy and Karen, and moves in with her parents, Alice and Hank. Hank is ashamed of Josey, who had Sammy as a teenager by an unknown father, and believes Josey is promiscuous. While working as a hairdresser, Josey reconnects with an old acquaintance, Glory Dodge, who works at the local iron mine and suggests Josey do the same. Josey's pursuit of the job further strains her relationship with Hank, who also works at the mine, so she and her children move in with Glory and her husband Kyle.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A fictionalized account of one of America's most groundbreaking sexual harassment lawsuits comes to the screen in this hard-hitting drama. In the late '80s, Josey Aimes (Charlize Theron) fled her abusive husband, and needed to find a way to support her two children. Aimes returned to her hometown in Minnesota and followed the lead of her old friend Glory (Frances McDormand), who had bucked tradition and found a job in the iron mines that had long provided employment for much of the community. Aimes found honest labor and a living wage working the mines, but she also discovered she was working with men who were uncomfortable working with women (whose right to work in the mines had been mandated by law almost 15 years prior), and didn't care to show them much respect. However, as Aimes found herself the growing target of sexist jokes and abhorrent behavior, she found that many of her female co-workers were reluctant to stand beside her, afraid of losing a good-paying job at a time when they were increasingly hard to find. But as a personal crisis became a public war of words, Aimes became the center of a nationwide controversy when she attempted to file a class action sexual harassment suit against the mine owners, which put her and her family in a position of scrutiny beyond her worst expectations. North Country also stars Sean Bean, Sissy Spacek, and Woody Harrelson.

This video is an interview of North Country Trail thru-hiker, "Strider". The North Country Trail is currently the longest trail system in the United States, covering over 4,500 miles of trail. The trail starts in North Dakota and eventually ends in northern New York. Since the trail passes through my hometown, I thought it would be cool to catch Strider and maybe glean some insights for us hikers, backpackers, campers etc. At this point in his thru-hike, Strider is just past the 2,600 mile mark. He has already surpassed the Appalachian Trail and is close to surpassing the Pacific Crest Trail in length. The Seattle based North Country Bluegrass band is incredibly talented, up and coming since 2012 with powerful vocal harmonies, tasteful arrangment combined with complex instrumental overlays and a pleasing stage presence.While remaining faithful to the roots of Bluegrass tradition, they also push the edge of a changing contemporary scene with outstanding original music. North Country Bluegrass sprang from the special chemistry evident when they found themselves together at the 2012 Shelton Bluegrasss festival. Will McSeveney took 1st place (banjo) during that event. Hiking the North Country Trail - Allegheny National Forest
In this video hiking journal, my friend and I hike a section of the North Country National Scenic Trail in the Alleghany National Forest near Warren, Pennsylvania. We started at Henry Mills and ended at Dunham Siding. The total trail mileage was between 15 and 16 miles, but with some of our various wanderings, our trip totaled 23 miles over the course of 2.5 days. We are not experienced backpackers, so this was a new thing for the both of us; but we loved every minute of it. This trail section meanders through and around various abandoned oil drilling outfits, streams, huge rock structures, caves, creeks, valleys, and all kinds of various tree and animal species. Although we didn't come in direct contact with them, we did see signs of bear activity and heard some in the night as we slept i... -

This video is an interview of North Country Trail thru-hiker, "Strider". The North Country Trail is currently the longest trail system in the United States, covering over 4,500 miles of trail. Since the trail passes through my hometown, I thought it would be cool to catch Strider and maybe glean some insights for us hikers, backpackers, campers etc.
At this point in his thru-hike, Strider is just past the 2,600 mile mark. He has already surpassed the Appalachian Trail and is close to surpassing the Pacific Crest Trail in length.
I thought it would be cool to talk to Strider about his experiences thus far as well as to go through his pack to glean insight into the kind of gear someone on this kind of trek would want to have.
It was an honor to host him for the night as I was able to learn a ton from his shared experiences.

In this video hiking journal, my friend and I hike a section of the North Country National Scenic Trail in the Alleghany National Forest near Warren, Pennsylvania. We are not experienced backpackers, so this was a new thing for the both of us; but we loved every minute of it. Although we didn't come in direct contact with them, we did see signs of bear activity and heard some in the night as we slept in a lean-to along the trail. This is amazingly beautiful country and I very much look forward to coming back and exploring more of it in the future. One of the local guys we ran into even said that it wasn't necessary to purify the water and that he's been drinking strait out of the stream for the past 30 years, although, we treated our water just to be on the safe side.
