East Street Market
East Street Market also known locally as 'The Lane', or 'East Lane', is a busy street market in Walworth in South London. It is large and vibrant and is good for African and Caribbean fruit and vegetables, material and household goods.
Location
East Street is in the London Borough of Southwark and is between Walworth Road on the western side and the Old Kent Road on the Eastern side.
The market runs down East Street from the junction with Walworth Road to Dawes Street, passing East Street Baptist Church and a multitude of shops. The main entrance to the market is from Walworth Road. A bus stop on Walworth road serves the market, with a large number of buses arriving from Elephant and Castle or Camberwell Green. These include bus numbers 12, 35, 40, 45, 68, 148, 171, 176 and 468.
History
There has been street trading in the Walworth area since the 16th Century, when farmers rested their livestock on Walworth Common before continuing to the city. During the industrial revolution, stalls lined the whole of the Walworth Road, but the market has only been officially running since 1880.

The Walking
The Walking is an avant-garde music/experimental film score studio album by Jane Siberry. The album was released on Reprise Records internationally, but remained on the independent label Duke Street Records in Canada. It is an excellent example of music that, on release, was panned by critics and largely spurned by the market, only to become a museum-quality art that has stood the test of time.
Critical reception
The album was initially poorly received by critics. It largely turned its back on the quirky new wave pop that Siberry had been known for; in its place was a surreal amalgam of progressive rock and Laurie Anderson-style performance art narratives, only one of which was shorter than six minutes.
Toronto progressive radio station CFNY, an early champion of Siberry's music, announced that it did not view any track on The Walking as viable for airplay on their station. Sales of the album were slow at first, although they improved when Siberry provided radio stations with a shorter edit of "Ingrid and the Footman".

Children in Need
BBC Children in Need (also promoted as Plant Mewn Angen in Wales) is the BBC's UK charity. Since 1980 it has raised over £600 million to change the lives of disabled children and young people in the UK. One of the highlights is an annual telethon, held in November and televised on BBC One, BBC One HD, BBC Two, and BBC Two HD from 7:30 pm until 2 am. "Pudsey Bear" is BBC Children in Need's mascot, whilst Terry Wogan was a long-standing host.
BBC Children in Need is one of three high-profile British telethons, although the only charity belonging to the BBC, the other telethons being Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, both supporting the Comic Relief charity. Following the closure of Television Centre, the 2013 telethon took place at the BBC's Elstree Studios on Friday 15 November.
History
Earlier BBC appeals
The BBC's first broadcast charity appeal took place in 1927, in the form of a five-minute radio broadcast on Christmas Day. It raised about £1,143, which equates to about £27,150 by today's standards, and was donated to four children's charities. The first televised appeal took place in 1955 and was called the Children's Hour Christmas Appeal, with the yellow glove puppet Sooty Bear and Harry Corbett fronting it. The Christmas Day Appeals continued on TV and radio until 1979. During that time a total of £625,836 was raised. Terry Wogan first appeared during this five-minute appeal in 1978, and again in 1979. Sometimes cartoon characters such as Peter Pan and Tom and Jerry were used.

Street
A street is a public thoroughfare (usually paved) in a built environment. It is a public parcel of land adjoining buildings in an urban context, on which people may freely assemble, interact, and move about. A street can be as simple as a level patch of dirt, but is more often paved with a hard, durable surface such as concrete, cobblestone or brick. When it comes to Tehran, it's impossible to avoid politics and easy to overlook the Iranian city's thriving culinary scene. In our first installment of The MUNCHIES Guide to Tehran, our host Gelareh Kiazand introduces us to the bustling street food offerings in the city.
We begin our journey at the capital city's Grand Bazaar, since that's where commodities first arrive. Gelareh beelines for the market's food stands, where she samples dried fruits and nuts while waiting out the line at Moslem Restaurant, frequented by up to 5,000 kebab connoisseurs daily—well worth it for her favorite tah chin. Today the 1.3 kilometer long wall stands as a memorial to freedom and it is covered in art and graffiti. Right now we're visiting Brandenburg Gate. This gate dates back to the 18th Century. We're here at Tiergarten, one of the biggest parks in the city. MauerPark is a hipster hangout. If you head over to the Bear Pit you can catch some karaoke and musical performances. If you want to spot some cool street art, then head over to Friedrichshain. You can't come to Berlin and not eat a Currywurst! This is the city's most popular fast food snack. The sausage is served with a ketchup and curry powder concoction. Up next we're at the Reichstag building which has a pretty cool glass dome on top. This dome is actually open to visitors and it offers 360 degree views of the city. Today we're visiting Tempelhof, a re-purposed airport here in Berlin for leisure activities and sports. If you enjoy museums and art galleries you'll want to visit Berlin's Museum Island. They actually have five different museums here and if you get a daily pass for 18 Euros you get access to all five. We are now visiting the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. It is also known as the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Charlottenburg Palace is the largest palace in Berlin and the only surviving royal residence in the city. Checkpoint Charlie was one of the crossing points between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. Located near Alexanderplatz, The Berlin TV Tower offers a great lookout over the city. Chocolate! Ritter Sport is a chocolate brand that is sold all over Germany, and while in Berlin we couldn't resist sampling a few of the different varieties. Berlin Cathedral is located on Museum Island and it's one of the most beautiful churches in the city. If Currywurst is to your liking, you'll want to check out this quirky museum devoted to Berlin's favorite sausage. Renting a bike is a great way to get around the city. Most places will rent out bikes at 10 Euros per day. For a leisurely afternoon, hop on a boat and enjoy a tour down the River Spree. Of course, you cannot come to Berlin and not eat a Wurst or a sausage. The Friedrichshain flea market takes place every Sunday and it's a great place for people watching and a little browsing. The Germans sure know how to enjoy a hearty breakfast, and we recommend you try it too.
We couldn't resist visiting yet another cat cafe while we were in Berlin.
While in Berlin we enjoyed a hearty meal of Schnitzel. It's quite easy to get around Berlin using the U-bahn and S-bahn system. In Berlin, there is a big Turkish population and that means there is awesome Turkish street food. And that's Berlin for you! A city that has risen from the ashes of the war, which is now bursting with art, music, and life.

20 things to do in Belfast Travel Guide | Top Attractions Travel Video Transcript:
Well hello from Northern Ireland. This week we are traveling around Belfast and we only have three days in the capital so we're going to try and cover as much ground as we possibly can and show you some of the highlights.
The RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time it entered service, and it was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The Titanic Belfast exhibition, tells the stories of the Titanic's ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912 and it is one of the top attractions in the city.
Right now we're on board the SS Nomadic, the little sister of the Titanic, and we're going to take a full tour of the ship.
The SS Nomadic was a steamship built as a tender to the RMS Titanic. It was her job to ferry passengers, baggage, and supplies to and from the shore.
Next up we are heading inside St George's Market, which we've been told is more than just a farmer's market. Apparently, aside from buying food there you can catch some live shows, go shopping for vintage items, jewelry. So we're going to head inside and see what it is like. And it is only open on the weekends.
Queen's University Belfast is one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom. It also happens to have a really nice campus, so we decided to take a little stroll.
The Botanic Gardens first opened as a private garden in 1828, and for many years the public only had access on Sundays. Today anyone can visit and it's a beautiful place to walk around, especially if you luck out with sunshine.
So if you take a look at my pint over here you might be thinking I'm having Guinness. It does look a lot like Guinness but in fact it is Belfast Black. And I have to say it tastes just as good if not better.
For 360 degree views of Belfast, we recommend going to Victoria Square Shopping Centre, and riding the elevator up to the dome. This will give you a nice bird's eye view of Belfast.
So to wrap things up here in Belfast I'm going to mention three things I really liked about the city.
First off it is highly affordable. One of the best bargains you can get is a day pass for the bus. It's really cheap and it allows you to travel anywhere in the city unlimited usage.
Secondly, this is a very friendly city. Almost anytime we brought out a map we had a local coming up to offer help. And we just found that whenever we took taxi rides or were in restaurants locals really went the extra distance to make us feel welcome here.
And lastly this is a very walk-able city. Most of the attractions are clustered.
And that's it for our quick trip to Belfast! As you can probably see, our visit was fairly short so we didn't get to do it all. If you have any suggestions of other sights and attractions worth checking out around Belfast, feel free to share those in the comments below.

Prior to teaching English in South Korea, having grown up in Canada, I really didn't know what street food was all about. Over the past decade, having focused most of my time living and traveling in Asia, I've become such a huge fan of street food that I feel as though I'm being robbed whenever I visit a country or city where I'm unable to get it.

When you think of street food in Asia numerous countries pop into mind. The standouts in my opinion are Korean street food, Chinese street food, Thai street food, Malaysian street food, Vietnamese street food and Taiwanese street food.
The following is a travel and food guide to the best street food to be found in Asia:
1) Thai Street Food
Where can you find Thai street. In a word - everywhere! Street food in Thailand is as much a part of daily life as songthaews and Buddhist monks. In this video we showcase the Saturday Night Market in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we sample numerous street food delights including twist potatoes, blueberry cheesecake ice cream, pan-fried dumplings, sausage and banana pancakes with chocolate.
2) Korean Street Food
I've said it before but it is worth repeating again: "There is no place on earth that offers better street food that South Korea."
Called 'pojangmacha' some of my favorites include tteokbokki and hotteok. If you're in Seoul consider checking out Insadong and Namdaemun for a diverse selection of delectable delights.
3) Macanese Street Food
Friends had told us about the legendary street food in Macua. Fortunately for us we had an opportunity to try it ourselves. Some of the top highlights included egg tarts, pork chop bun, almond cakes, soy milk and Taiwanese pearl milk bubble tea.
4) Chinese Street Food
Our favorite city to eat street, while traveling in China, was the night market in Yangshuo. We started off with satay, a smoky and spicy meat and then moved on to Chinese banana pancakes. Compared to other countries where I've tried banana pancakes.
5) Malaysian Street Food
I've visited many night markets in Asia and the Jonker Street Night Market, located in Malacca, Malaysia, is one of my all time favorites. On a hot and humid evening we had a chance to cool down with some delicious Cendol.
6) Singapore Street Food
Singapore is by far the most expensive country in Southeast Asia to visit. Accommodation is expensive. Eating at restaurants costs a small fortune. The solution? Hawker Centres. These open air food stall complexes serve up wonderful delights from cuisine all over Asia and especially SE Asia. We were lucky enough to sample Hainanese chicken rice, butter chicken, butter naan, satay and dim sum.
7) Khmer Street Food
Have you ever tried insects before? Prior to traveling in SE Asia I had yet to experience eating an insect. While in Cambodia I had the chance to devour some deep-fried crickets.
8) More Malaysian Cuisine
While wandering around in Melaka we cooled down with Cendol - this time with ice cream while munching on deep-fried banana.
9) More Thailand Cuisine
Here we show you the infamous Thai banana pancake, also known as banana roti, as made from scratch Thai style. While living nearby Chiang Mai Gate we came here often to this stall for a sweet treat and for some dessert. Coming in at only 30 Baht (1 USD) it's the kind of treat where you can have more than one.
10) Thai Cuisine once again
One of our favorite outdoor stalls in Chiang Mai served yellow noodles with dumplings. The wanton like dumplings were a real treat. Coming in at just over a dollar we ate here often to save money.

When you think of street food in Asia numerous countries pop into mind. The standouts in my opinion are Korean street food, Chinese street food, Thai street food, Malaysian street food, Vietnamese street food and Taiwanese street food.
The following is a travel and food guide to the best street food to be found in Asia:
1) Thai Street Food
Where can you find Thai street. In a word - everywhere! Street food in Thailand is as much a part of daily life as songthaews and Buddhist monks. In this video we showcase the Saturday Night Market in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we sample numerous street food delights including twist potatoes, blueberry cheesecake ice cream, pan-fried dumplings, sausage and banana pancakes with chocolate.
2) Korean Street Food
I've said it before but it is worth repeating again: "There is no place on earth that offers better street food that South Korea."
Called 'pojangmacha' some of my favorites include tteokbokki and hotteok. If you're in Seoul consider checking out Insadong and Namdaemun for a diverse selection of delectable delights.
3) Macanese Street Food
Friends had told us about the legendary street food in Macua. Fortunately for us we had an opportunity to try it ourselves. Some of the top highlights included egg tarts, pork chop bun, almond cakes, soy milk and Taiwanese pearl milk bubble tea.
4) Chinese Street Food
Our favorite city to eat street, while traveling in China, was the night market in Yangshuo. We started off with satay, a smoky and spicy meat and then moved on to Chinese banana pancakes. Compared to other countries where I've tried banana pancakes.
5) Malaysian Street Food
I've visited many night markets in Asia and the Jonker Street Night Market, located in Malacca, Malaysia, is one of my all time favorites. On a hot and humid evening we had a chance to cool down with some delicious Cendol.
6) Singapore Street Food
Singapore is by far the most expensive country in Southeast Asia to visit. Accommodation is expensive. Eating at restaurants costs a small fortune. The solution? Hawker Centres. These open air food stall complexes serve up wonderful delights from cuisine all over Asia and especially SE Asia. We were lucky enough to sample Hainanese chicken rice, butter chicken, butter naan, satay and dim sum.
7) Khmer Street Food
Have you ever tried insects before? Prior to traveling in SE Asia I had yet to experience eating an insect. While in Cambodia I had the chance to devour some deep-fried crickets.
8) More Malaysian Cuisine
While wandering around in Melaka we cooled down with Cendol - this time with ice cream while munching on deep-fried banana.
9) More Thailand Cuisine
Here we show you the infamous Thai banana pancake, also known as banana roti, as made from scratch Thai style. While living nearby Chiang Mai Gate we came here often to this stall for a sweet treat and for some dessert. Coming in at only 30 Baht (1 USD) it's the kind of treat where you can have more than one.
10) Thai Cuisine once again
One of our favorite outdoor stalls in Chiang Mai served yellow noodles with dumplings. The wanton like dumplings were a real treat. Coming in at just over a dollar we ate here often to save money.
