There were no shortage of harsh quips directed toward Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention, but Rep. Tammy Duckworth, a military veteran, had her own takedown for Trump’s widely criticized invitation to Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.

“Of course, in Donald Trump’s America, if you get knocked down, you stay down,” said Duckworth, a representative from Illinois and former assistant secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs in the Department of Veterans Affairs. “By the way, Donald Trump, I didn’t put my life on the line to defend our democracy so you could invite Russia to interfere with it. You are not fit to be the commander in chief.”

In her speech, Duckworth detailed surviving an attack on the helicopter she was co-piloting 12 years ago. She also talked about the importance of motherhood and the impact her own mother had on her and she made a plea to other Democrats to stand up for what’s right.

“Tonight, let's go forward with confidence and pride in who we are and what we believe,” Duckworth said. “We are Democrats because we stand up for the most vulnerable among us. We embrace the notion that lifting each other up doesn't cost nearly as much as leaving others behind.”
