Ellen (1883)

Ellen (also known as SS Ellen) was a coastal freighter and trawler, which was wrecked in Gulf St Vincent at Morgan’s Beach near Cape Jervis South Australia on Saturday, 12 December 1908.

History of vessel prior to loss

Ellen was built in Brisbane, Queensland in 1883 for Messrs. Breslin and Watson for the purpose of trade from Gladstone to Keppel Bay and other ports within Queensland.

The ship purchased several years prior to 1908 for the purpose of ‘coastal work’ in South Australian waters by Messrs. W. R. Cave and Co. and Co., grain merchants, shipping and Customs agents based at Port Adelaide. The vessel was chartered in November 1908 for 3 months by a delegation of Scottish fishermen consisting of Messrs. W. J. Newlands, W. Eaglesham and W. Grieve & M Grieve and who were interested in establishing a fishing business in South Australia.

Historical account of loss

On Thursday, 10 December 1908, Ellen under the command of Captain A. McMillan departed from Glenelg for Kangaroo Island with Mr Newlands, and a crew of 6. On Saturday, 12 December 1908, Ellen returned from Hog Bay on Kangaroo Island en route to a destination on the mainland with a load of fish valued at £50. Ellen encountered very rough conditions when passing Cape Jervis. The rough conditions included a sudden swing in wind direction from the South West to the North West. As a result, the ship drifted astern towards the shore until its stern run aground on the rocky seabed. The bow was then swung around onto the rocks by the waves thereby completing the wrecking. The heavy sea then continued to pound the wrecked vessel, washing fittings and timber overboard and onto the shore. The crew escaped to shore via the use of a dinghy while Mr Newlands swam to the shore.

Ellen (season 5)

The fifth season of Ellen, an American television series, began September 24, 1997, and ended on July 22, 1998. It aired on ABC. The region 1 DVD was released on November 28, 2006. Note that although Disc 2 of the Region 1 DVD release has "The Funeral" before "Womyn Fest," the content of the next two episodes suggests that "Womyn Fest" goes before "The Funeral."

Vows (band)

Vows is an indie, psych pop band formed in New Jersey and Vermont in 2011 with their first release in April titled, Winter's Grave. The band got their start with a mention from NPR's Second Stage. They have since been performing across the U.S. and continuing to release new records. Signing with Tree Machine Records, an independent label out of Bloomington, IN and Section Sign Records based out of Burlington, VT, was the next move forward into more national recognition.

Winter's Grave

Vows debut LP, Winter's Grave was released in April 2011. It's ambient psychedelia defines the inertia that gave the band its start and is still present in the composition and structure of later releases. The album was premiered on NPR's 2nd Stage, and so many times has the word 'dreamy' been associated with the band ever since.

In describing the Americana and folk roots that hide in the modern aural landscape of this group, Vows ideologies were even described as "deeply rooted and expressed in post 9/11 anxieties." Local to New Jersey, Vermont, New York, and all stretches of the east coast, the band members derive from a variety of backgrounds intensely inscribed in macro-cosmic relevancy.Winter's Grave, their first release to date, caught the most attention with its unique packaging, wrapped in burlap and neatly tided together with a black string.

Vows (Dollhouse)

"Vows" is the premiere of the second season of the American science fiction television series Dollhouse and the show's 14th episode overall. The episode was written and directed by series creator and executive producer Joss Whedon, and aired in the United States on Fox on September 25, 2009. "Vows" follows the first season finale, "Omega", and takes place several months after the events of that episode. Therefore, it is set in the present as opposed to the unaired thirteenth episode, "Epitaph One".

In the episode, Echo is sent on an engagement as a young woman who marries an elusive international arms dealer, played by Jamie Bamber, and Ballard is offered a position as Echo's new handler. Dr. Saunders struggles with the revelation that she is a Doll and gets some surprising revelations from Topher. A U.S. Senator starts an investigation into the Rossum Corporation. The episode was met with mostly positive reviews.

Plot

The episode starts with Echo getting an imprint. Paul Ballard is seemingly concerned at whether Echo can handle this, but Topher reassures Ballard everything will be fine. During the imprinting process, Topher experiences glitches with his computer and suspects it is Dr. Saunders who is messing with him and goes to sleep. Adelle and Boyd discuss the dangers of keeping Ballard on staff, but Adelle seems unfazed. Echo is then seen on an engagement and is getting married.

List of Gargoyles episodes

Gargoyles is an American animated television series that aired from October 24, 1994, to February 15, 1997. A total of 78 half-hour episodes of Gargoyles were produced. The first two seasons aired in The Disney Afternoon programming block, the third and final season aired in Disney's One Saturday Morning format on ABC as Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles.

Although the first two seasons were considered successful, Gargoyles did not live up to Disney's expectations as a commercial rival to Batman: The Animated Series. This result, combined with poor ratings for the third season, led Disney to cancel the series.The Goliath Chronicles aired its final episode on February 15, 1997.
