Díaz is a common Spanish surname with multiple meanings in multiple languages. First found in Castile, where the name originated in the Visigoths period, the name accounts for about 0.17 % of the Spanish population, ranking as the 14th-most frequently found surname in both 1999 and 2004 compared to the most popular Spanish surname of those years.

Variants and related names

There is minor evidence that Díez may be equivalent to Díaz, in the form of Spanish language listing of most frequent surnames in 1999 Spain (OcioTotal 1999). However, a 2008 in-press academic manuscript about Spanish naming in 2004 suggests otherwise, listing statistics for "Díaz" and "Díez" separately (Mateos & Tucker 2008).

In relation to descent from the Biblical names James and Jacob, it has been surmised that Díaz is a derivation of Diego from Iago (Smith 1986), Sant Iagus. A second source suggests Díaz as being derived from a Gothic form of the paternal genitive of Dia, as in "Dia's child", or Diag, Diago or Diego (Dixon 1857). Dias translates into Son of Jacob

Diaz is a city in Jackson County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,318 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Diaz is located at 35°38′40″N 91°15′41″W / 35.64444°N 91.26139°W / 35.64444; -91.26139 (35.644423, -91.261294).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15 km²), of which 5.9 square miles (15 km²) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km²) (0.34%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,284 people, 465 households, and 365 families residing in the city. The population density was 216.8 people per square mile (83.7/km²). There were 552 housing units at an average density of 93.2 per square mile (36.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 69.63% White, 28.35% Black or African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.55% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 1.17% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 465 households out of which 38.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.5% were married couples living together, 18.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% were non-families. 18.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.15.

Plot

Jess (Zooey Deschanel) brings her new boyfriend Russell (Dermot Mulroney) home to the loft to meet her roommates. After some reluctance, the men bond when the group plays True American, an active drinking game. The game ends when Cece (Hannah Simone) retreats to Schmidt's bed, prompting Schmidt (Max Greenfield) to join her. Nick (Jake Johnson) then shares his idea for "real apps," a suite of physical "apps" for smartphones with functionality similar to a Swiss Army knife. He accidentally wounds Russell with the prototype, prompting Russell to leave, to Jess's disappointment.

Winston (Lamorne Morris) begins a new job in "Normal" as an assistant to sports talk show host Joe Napoli (Phil Hendrie). Winston's initial enthusiasm for the job fades when he realizes Napoli is an abrasive and disrespectful boss. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has a cameo appearance as a guest on Napoli's show.
