To chyba wystarczy? ---- This is an interview with Geoff Wilkinson, the founder and producer of Us3, from the 17th of April 2009, made before a concert in Wrocław (as part of the „stop.think.run Tour) The questions in the video are written in polish, but we've translated them for you, below (yeah, probably not the best and comfortable of solutions, but it should work until we come up with a better one. . .): 1) In 1990', just before Us3 was founded, you released a single "Where Will We Be In The 21st Century" - what was your answer to that question, then? 2) In november 1993' Us3's first LP "Hand on the torch" came out, with your greatest hit "Cantaloop" on it. The album went platinium and sold over 1 million times in the USA alone. Where you expecting such a success? 3) Going back even more, do you remember when and how did you start listening jazz? And when does hip-hop come along? 4) And that's when you decided to mix them? 5) With just jazz it might have been harder to reach the young people - only the minority of them listens to jazz... 6) For about 20 years you've been able to keep great jazz musicians such as Chris Storr, Ed Jones or Neville Malcom. It most have been tough: so many years, no quarrels? 7) On almost every new record you invite new rappers. The fans, on the other hand, always want you to play you biggest hits like "Cantaloop". So there's someone new performing them every few years? 8) Us3 used to have a lot of problems with record labels. Eventually you decied to release your albums independently - are you satisfied with that step? 9) You've mention the "Questions" album, on which you decided to stop using samples from old jazz tunes. And you used to joke then, that you like working with living musicians a lot more then with the death ones... 10) Comming back to the present. What kind of people, today, in 2009, listen to your music? 11) So you're not feeling like, to win the younger audience you'd have to start working with someone known to this generation? For example, the 45-year old Chris Cornell tried to achieve that by asking Timbaland to produce his last record... 12) Some names from that wishlist? 13) To end with; after releasing your first album long, long time ago you said that: "i just wanted to open minds with it, i wanted to hand over the torch".
