Richard St John Harris (1 October 1930 – 25 October 2002) was an Irish actor, singer, songwriter, producer, director, and writer. He appeared on stage and in many films, appearing as Frank Machin in This Sporting Life, and King Arthur in the 1967 film Camelot and the subsequent 1981 revival of the show. He played an aristocrat and prisoner in A Man Called Horse (1970), a gunfighter in Clint Eastwood's Western film Unforgiven (1992), Emperor Marcus Aurelius in Gladiator (2000), and Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002). Harris had a top ten hit in the United Kingdom and United States with his 1968 recording of Jimmy Webb's song "MacArthur Park".
Harris, the sixth of nine children of Mildred Josephine (née Harty) and Ivan John Harris, was born in Limerick. He was raised in a middle-class and staunchly Roman Catholic family. Harris' siblings included Patrick Ivan (1929-2008), Noel William Michael (1932-1996), Diarmid (Dermot, 1939–1985), and William George Harris (1942-2007). His maternal niece is actress Annabelle Wallis.
LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012), known by her stage name Donna Summer, was an American singer, songwriter, and painter. She gained prominence during the disco era of the late-1970s. A five-time Grammy Award winner, she was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the United States Billboard album chart and charted four number-one singles in the U.S. within a 12-month period. Summer has reportedly sold over 140 million records, making her one of the world's best-selling artists of all time.
While influenced by the counterculture of the 1960s, she became the front singer of a psychedelic rock band named Crow and moved to New York City. Joining a touring version of the musical Hair, she left New York and spent several years living, acting, and singing in Europe, where she met music producers, Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte.
Summer returned to the U.S., in 1975 with commercial success of the song 'Love to Love You Baby', followed by a string of other hits, such as "I Feel Love", "Last Dance", "MacArthur Park", "Heaven Knows", "Hot Stuff", "Bad Girls", "Dim All the Lights", "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" (duet with Barbra Streisand), and "On the Radio". She became known as the "Queen of Disco", while her music gained a global following.

"MacArthur Park" is a song by Jimmy Webb in 1968, originally composed as part of an intended cantata. Richard Harris was the second to record it. Other covers include Donna Summer's disco arrangement from 1978 and Waylon Jennings's version recorded in 1969. Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton, and Woody Herman all performed big-band jazz arrangements. "MacArthur Park" utilized flowery lyrics and metaphors (most famously, love being likened to a cake left out in the rain) that were considered by media such as the Los Angeles Times to be "polarizing" and "loopy." The inspiration for "MacArthur Park" was the relationship and breakup between Webb and Susan Ronstadt, a cousin of singer Linda Ronstadt. MacArthur Park was where the two occasionally met for lunch and spent their most enjoyable times t...

Best version on YouTube, and I watched 'em ALL...Will Lee sings his ASS off!! He has the balls (or lack thereof?) to actually attempt that high note, and he, miraculously, succeeds! Talented band...but Paul still creeps me out a little.

With the South Dakota Symphony Live 2002. What a fabulous rendition of a fabulous song by a fabulous singer! Even though he doesn't hit the high notes like in the seventies anymore, this is still outstanding.
Richard Harris - My Boy 1971 You're sleeping, son, I know But really this can't wait I wanted to explain before it gets too late For your mother and me, love has finally died This is no happy home, but God knows how I've tried Because you're all I have, my boy You are my life, my pride, my joy And if I stay, I stay because of you, my boy I know it's hard to understand Why did we ever stop We're more like strangers now Each acting out a part I have laughed, I have cried I have lost every game Taking all that I can take But I'll stay just the same Because you're all I have, my boy You are my life, my pride, my joy And if I stay, I stay because of you, my boy Sleep on, you haven't heard a word Perhaps it's just as well Why spoil your little dreams Why put you through that hell Life is...
Taken from the BBC Michael Parkinson Show (1977), at the time broadcast live. Originally Harris missed the top note at the end of the song. Stopped and swore, Saying he WOULD get it right, he re-started and hit it. Sadly, it was cut from the recorded edit

"Ireland's Richard Harris (1930-2002) and Peter O'Toole (1932-2013) were two of the most charismatic and much loved actors of their generation. At their career peaks, these two men had the whole world at their feet and lived through some of the wildest exploits the entertainment industry has ever seen. They are widely considered by peers to have been the two biggest drinkers in Hollywood history! Between them they have 10 Academy Award nominations, 4 Golden Globes, and 2 BAFTA's. These loveable piss-artists from the Emerald Isle were also seemingly immune from the law. They got away with murder because of their extraordinary acting talent and because the public just loved them. They were truly the last of a breed."

The Wild Geese is a British adventure film directed by Andrew V. McLaglen about a group of mercenaries in Africa. It stars Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris and Hardy Krüger. The film was the result of a long-held ambition of its producer Euan Lloyd to make an all-star adventure film similar to The Guns of Navarone or Where Eagles Dare. The same producer and director were later responsible for The Sea Wolves, a more sophisticated film (Roger Moore appeared in that, too and Roy Budd, again, wrote the music).

It was New Years Eve, but with help from the telephone receptionist at RTE we managed to get two cameramen, a lighting guy and a sound guy within an hour. thanks to Nick O'Neill. And we got a terrific result.

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
[break]
There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why
[extended break]
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
