PBS Critique's color broadcast titled "A Profile of Jim Morrison and The Doors - On and Off Stage'. The performance was filmed on April 28th, and the Interview on April 29th. The panel discussion was later filmed on May 23rd. It is unknown wether or not more footage exists from this performance. Includes the only known complete live recording of 'The Soft Parade'. Frank Lisciandro, who was on site photographing the show, recalled in his book that Light My Fire was performed, although recently Frank has revealed that Light My Fire was not performed on this show. Also featured is a 10 minute interview with the band by Richard Goldstein in which Jim attempts to read from 'The Lords And New Creatures'. The panel discussion includes Richard Goldstein, Patricia Kennealy, William 'Rosko' Mercer from WNEW-FM, and Alfred G. Aronowitz. The show was originally broadcast on WNET - Channel 13 in New York, and re-broadcast on June 29.◄

The Doors were founded by Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison in Los Angeles in 1965. They released their eponymous debut album, which contained their hit single Light My Fire, in 1967 and went on to be one of the most controversial and influential rock acts of the sixties. Jim Morrison's early death in Paris in 1971 only served to fuel their legend and both he and the band have continued to enjoy iconic status for more than thirty years.

Filmed by the Feast of Friends crew, The Doors 'Live At The Hollywood Bowl' was officially released on video in 1987 and again in 2012 as 'Live At The Bowl '68'. The filmwork is a mix of 3 16mm Airiflex cameras, one high speed 16mm camera, and features professional 8-track audio recorded by Paul Rothchild and Bruce Botnick in the Wally Heider remote truck.
Although four cameras are in place during this show, final edits consist of three angles only. The high-speed 16mm operated by Steve Wax was not set to start filming until the execution scene in 'The Unknown Soldier', but jammed and did not capture any of the performance. As a full concert film was not intended, there are portions of the show that were not caught on film. During the original performance, Jim's microphone had technical issues, resulting in vocal errors on the soundtrack. Jim's voice was synthetically engineered by Sonic Solutions to reproduce Jim's voice to fill in the missing vocal segments. The original released edit runs at about an hour, while the total amount of original filmwork is unknown.

The Doors
The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore. The band got its name from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, which itself was a reference to a quote made by William Blake, "If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite." They were unique and among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly because of Morrison's lyrics and charismatic but unpredictable stage persona. After Morrison's death on 3 July 1971 at age 27, the remaining members continued as a trio until disbanding in 1973.
Signing with Elektra Records in 1966, the Doors released eight albums between 1967 and 1971. All but one hit the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum or better. Their self-titled debut album (1967) was their first in a series of Top 10 albums in the United States, followed by Strange Days (also 1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), Absolutely Live (1970) and L.A. Woman (1971), with 20 Gold, 14 Platinum, and 5 Multi-Platinum album awards in the United States alone. By the end of 1971, it was reported that the Doors had sold 4,190,457 albums domestically and 7,750,642 singles. The band had three million-selling singles in the U.S. with "Light My Fire", "Hello, I Love You" and "Touch Me". After Morrison's death in 1971, the surviving trio released two albums Other Voices and Full Circle with Manzarek and Krieger sharing lead vocals. The three members also collaborated on the spoken-word recording of Morrison's An American Prayer in 1978 and on the "Orange County Suite" for a 1997 boxed set. Manzarek, Krieger and Densmore reunited in 2000 for an episode of VH1's "Storytellers" and subsequently recorded Stoned Immaculate: The Music of the Doors with a variety of vocalists.

Filmed by the Feast of Friends crew, The Doors 'Live At The Hollywood Bowl' was officially released on video in 1987 and again in 2012 as 'Live At The Bowl '68'. The filmwork is a mix of 3 16mm Airiflex cameras, one high speed 16mm camera, and features professional 8-track audio recorded by Paul Rothchild and Bruce Botnick in the Wally Heider remote truck.
Although four cameras are in place during this show, final edits consist of three angles only. The high-speed 16mm operated by Steve Wax was not set to start filming until the execution scene in 'The Unknown Soldier', but jammed and did not capture any of the performance. As a full concert film was not intended, there are portions of the show that were not caught on film. During the original performance, Jim's microphone had technical issues, resulting in vocal errors on the soundtrack. Jim's voice was synthetically engineered by Sonic Solutions to reproduce Jim's voice to fill in the missing vocal segments. The original released edit runs at about an hour, while the total amount of original filmwork is unknown.

During a 1969 concert at The Dinner Key Auditorium in Miami, Morrison attempted to spark a riot in the audience. He failed, but a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Dade County Police department three days later for indecent exposure. By this time the band was on vacation in Jamaica. Eventually, Morrison was convicted of indecent exposure and public profanity. Consequently, many of The Doors' scheduled concerts were canceled. -

The Doors - Light My Fire
"Light My Fire" is a song originally performed by The Doors which was recorded in August 1966 and released the first week of January 1967. It spent three weeks at #1 on the Billboard's Hot 100, and one week on the Cashbox Top 100. It was re-released in 1968, peaking at #87. The song was largely written by Robby Krieger, and credited to the entire band. A live version was released in 1983 on their album Alive, She Cried, the first of several live or compilation albums released in subsequent decades to include the song. "Light My Fire" also achieved modest success in Australia, where it peaked at #22 on the ARIA chart. The single originally reached #49 in the UK in 1967, but experienced belated success in that country in 1991 when a re-issue peaked at #7. The re-issue occurred on the back...

"Riders On The Storm" was the last song recorded by the members of The Doors, according to Ray, as well as Jim´s last recorded song to be released (recorded December 1970 - January 1971 - released in June ´71).
According to Robby, it was inspired by the song "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend." The song is played in the E Dorian mode, and incorporates real sound effects of thunder and rain, along with Ray´s Fender Rhodes electric piano playing, which emulates the sound of rain. The song was recorded at the Doors Workshop in December 1970 with the assistance of Bruce Botnick, their longtime engineer, who was co-producing the recording sessions. Jim recorded his main vocals and then whispered the lyrics over them to create the echo effect. The single was released in 1971, shortly before Jim´s death, entering the Hot 100 on 3 July 1971, the day that Jim died.
The Doors' former producer, Paul Rothchild left prior to the sessions as he did not like the album, or the song, calling it "cocktail music". Their engineer Bruce Botnick was selected to produce the album instead.
The band's drummer John Densmore wrote a 1990 book called Riders on the Storm, detailing the story of his life and his time with the group.
Ray Manzarek and guitarist Roy Rogers covered this song as an instrumental duet on their 2008 album "Ballads Before the Rain".
In November 2009, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame under the category Rock (track).
