Main Street is a generic phrase used to denote a primary retail street of a village, town or small city in many parts of the world. It is usually a focal point for shops and retailers in the central business district, and is most often used in reference to retailing and socializing.
The term is commonly used in Ireland, Scotland, the United States, Canada, and less often in Australia and New Zealand. In most of the United Kingdom the common description is High Street. However, the term "Main Street" is sometimes used in the UK, for instance, in the village of Sutton Cheney. In Jamaica the term is Front Street. In some parts of the south west of England the equivalent used is Fore Street.
In some larger cities, there may be several Main Streets, each relating to a specific neighborhood or formerly separate city, rather than the city as a whole. In many larger U.S. cities "Main Street" is a U.S. Highway; "Main Street of America" branding was used to promote U.S. Route 66 in its heyday.
Exile on Main St is a double album by English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 12 May 1972 by Rolling Stones Records. It was their tenth studio album released in the United Kingdom. The album's music incorporates rock and roll, blues, soul, country, and gospel genres.
Although it originally received mixed reviews,Exile on Main St has been ranked on various lists as one of the greatest albums of all time.
The 2010 remastered version of the album was released in Europe on 17 May 2010 and in the United States on 18 May 2010, featuring a bonus disc with 10 new tracks.
Exile on Main St was written and recorded between 1969 and 1972. Mick Jagger said "After we got out of our contract with Allen Klein, we didn't want to give him [those earlier tracks]," as they were forced to do with "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses" from Sticky Fingers (1971). Many tracks were recorded between 1969 and 1971 at Olympic Studios and Jagger's Stargroves country house in England during sessions for Sticky Fingers.
The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first settled line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums). Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued as an occasional pianist until his death in 1985. Jones departed the band less than a month prior to his death in 1969, having already been replaced by Mick Taylor, who remained until 1975. Subsequently, Ronnie Wood has been on guitar in tandem with Richards. Following Wyman's departure in 1993, Darryl Jones has been the main bassist. Other notable keyboardists for the band have included Nicky Hopkins, active from 1967 to 1982; Billy Preston through the mid 1970s (most prominent on Black and Blue) and Chuck Leavell, active since 1982. The band was first led by Jones but after teaming as the band's songwriters, Jagger and Richards assumed de facto leadership.
"Sweet Virginia" is the sixth track on the Rolling Stones' 1972 double album Exile On Main St.. It was also released as the b-side of the "Rocks Off" single in Japan.
Recorded between 1971 and '72, "Sweet Virginia" is a slow country inspired song, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song features a harmonica solo by Jagger, a saxophone solo by Bobby Keys. Charlie Watts plays a country shuffle rhythm.
The song was performed by the Stones during their 1972 American tour, their 1994 Voodoo Lounge Tour tour and their 2005 A Bigger Bang Tour. "Sweet Virginia" has also been covered by the band Phish and Old Crow Medicine Show in concerts.
Also recorded by Ronnie Lane.
The song was used in the 1995 film Casino starring Robert De Niro.
Exile means to be away from one's home (i.e. city, state or country), while either being explicitly refused permission to return and/or being threatened with imprisonment or death upon return. It can be a form of punishment and solitude. It is common to distinguish between internal exile, i.e., forced resettlement within the country of residence, and external exile, deportation outside the country of residence. Although most commonly used to describe an individual situation, the term is also used for groups (especially ethnic or national groups), or for an entire government. Terms such as diaspora and refugee describe group exile, both voluntary and forced, and government in exile describes a government of a country that has been forced to relocate and argue its legitimacy from outside that country. Exile can also be a self-imposed departure from one's homeland. Self-exile is often depicted as a form of protest by the person that claims it, to avoid persecution or legal matters (such as tax or criminal allegations), an act of shame or repentance, or isolating oneself to be able to devote time to a particular pursuit. Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile."

Tryin' to stop the waves behind your eyeballs, Drop your reds, drop your greens and blues. Thank you for your wine, California, Thank you for your sweet and bitter fruits. Yes I got the desert in my toenail And I hid the speed inside my shoe. But come on, come on down Sweet Virginia, Come on, honey child, I beg of you. Come on, come on down, you got it in ya. Artist: The Rolling Stones Album: Exile On Main Street (1972) Track: 12 When your spine is cracking and your hands, they shake, Heart is bursting and you butt's gonna break. Your woman's cussing, you can hear her scream, You feel like murder in the first degree. Ain't nobody slowing down no way, Ev'rybody's stepping on their accelerator, Don't matter where you are, Ev'rybody's gonna need a ventilator. When you're trapped and circled with no second chances, Your code of living is your gun in hand. We can't be browed by beating, we can't be cowed by words, Messed by cheating, ain't gonna ever learn. Ev'rybody walking 'round, Ev'rybody trying to step on their Creator. Don't matter where you are, ev'rybody, ev'rybody gonna Need some kind of ventilator, some ...

Artist: The Rolling Stones Album: Exile On Main Street (1972) Track: 14 Who's that woman on your arm all dressed up to do you harm And I'm hip to what she'll do, give her just about a month or two. Bit off more than I can chew and I knew what it was leading to, Some things, well, I can't refuse, One of them, one of them the bedroom blues. She delivers right on time, I can't resist a corny line, But take the shine right off you shoes, Carryin', carryin' the bedroom blues. Oo... In the bar you're getting drunk, I ain't in love, I ain't in luck. Hide the switch and shut the light, let it all come down tonight. Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger, Some face you'll never see no more. Let it all come down tonight. Keep those tears hid out of sight, ...
Reigniting their Halloween tradition of donning a "musical costume," this time as part of a multi-day festival dubbed Festival 8, Phish plays the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main St. album from start to finish with help from Sharon Jones and Saundra Williams on backup vocals, Dave Guy on trumpet, David Smith on trombone, and Tony Jarvis on saxophone. I do not own this video. It was given to me by friends. I am sharing it for phan enjoyment. If someone wants it taken down, please ask.

In 1971, to get breathing room from tax and management problems, the Stones go to France. Jimmy Miller parks a recording truck next to Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg's Blue Coast villa, and by June the band is in the basement a few days at a time. Upstairs, heroin, bourbon, and visitors are everywhere. The Stones, other musicians and crew, Pallenberg, and photographer Dominique Tarle, plus old clips and photos and contemporary footage, provide commentary on the album's haphazard construction. By September, the villa is empty; Richards and Jagger complete production in LA. "Exile on Main Street" is released to mediocre reviews that soon give way to lionization.

Catch me a shooting star, I need to hear some good news,
Streetlight keeps calling me, into the shadows with you,
I'll lie awake 'til, sweet morning breaks in my heart,
I'll lie and wonder when lightning and thunder will pass,
So I'm leaving coherent thoughts behind,
I'm counting the hours, 'til I'm by your side,
And I don't wanna feel, this weight on my shoulders,
I'm hoping it ain't hopeless.
Meet me at the parking lot, and we can both drive to the moon,
You can be dynamite, and honey, I'll be the fuse,
I'll lie awake 'til you fall asleep in my arms,
One parting kiss and I'm already missing you now.
So I'm leaving coherent thoughts behind,
I'm counting the hours, 'til I'm by your side,
And I don't wanna feel, this weight on my shoulders,
I'm hoping it ain't hopeless.
I'll lie awake 'til, sweet morning breaks in my heart,
I'll lie and wonder when lightning and thunder will pass,
So I'm leaving coherent thoughts behind,
