Walk the High Line
Considered this generation's Central Park, the 1.45 miles of reclaimed railroad track is testament to community activism and urban beautification efforts.
Get a ticket at Katz's Delicatessen
Ever wonder what pastrami is, exactly?
It's beef brisket cured in brine and covered with a mix of spices that include garlic, paprika and mustard seed.
Watch some noir at Film Forum

Shop at Bergdorf Goodman
At the corner of 58th Street and Fifth Avenue, where a Vanderbilt mansion once stood, is the city's temple to high fashion and conspicuous consumption.
Cruise past the Statue of Liberty
All those poor, tired, huddled masses would have headed straight back to the Old Country if they had to endure the lines that typically greet the patriots and tourists looking to visit Liberty Island.
Explore the northwest area of Central Park
Ask any New Yorker for a short list of must-sees in Central Park and they'll likely rattle off destinations like Strawberry Fields and Bethesda Fountain.
Visit the National September 11 Memorial & Museum
Considering the unspeakable depravity that led to the creation of "ground zero," the feeling of reverence, endurance, perseverance and peace that now greets visitors is truly astounding.
Listen to live jazz in Greenwich Village
What, you think John Coltrane is really dead?
Catch a Yankees game

Public History grad students Stephanie Johns and Jessica Knapp traveled to a in conference Monterey, California to present on Sustainable History. http://history.uwo.ca/public_history/index.html
Stephanie Johns graduated with an Honours BA from Huron University College, specializing in History. Stephanie served as the President of the Huron History Society for two years, during which membership saw tremendous growth. Volunteering at the County of Oxford Archives in Woodstock, she had the opportunity to research Cassie Chadwick, a local con-woman born in the 1850s. Stephanie then turned the research into an educational brochure for visiting students in the archives. (To learn more visit her blog at stephmjohns.wordpress.com.) At the archives, Stephanie learned the basics of document conservation and restoration through hands-on experience. During this past summer, Stephanie was employed by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum (HOF) as the Museum Host, and by Museum London as a Saturday morning downtown historical tour guide. At the HOF, Stephanie conducted tours for patrons and was able to adapt the tour to the patrons' interests. As a tour guide for Museum London, Stephanie provided a walking tour of downtown London's midcentury modernist architecture, including the Jack Tar Building and the London Life Financial Building. Through her volunteer and work positions in museums and archives, Stephanie has been able to hone her skills and looks forward to furthering her education in Public History. She hopes to call an archive her future career home.
While completing her Honours BA in History and English Language and Literature at the University of Windsor, Jessica Knapp displayed an interest in local history, as well as challenging and taboo topics. Jessica was awarded the David P. Botsford Memorial Scholarship for her '"On the importance of education...it is as necessary as the light—it should be as common as water, and as free as air...': Nineteenth Century Perpetuating Racial Discrimination through Education in Windsor and Sandwich," soon to be published by the Great Lakes Journal of Undergraduate History (Fall 2013). Travelling to Nipissing University to present at the 2013 Why Research Matters Undergraduate Conference, Jessica surprised her audience with an original historiography entitled "Where's the Pubic Hair?" Her presentation spotlighted a range of works discussing pubic hair, arguing that even 'tabooed' topics need to be discussed in a historical context. Most recently, Jessica has been researching at the archives of the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital for the September 2013 publication of People of Faith: The Story of Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital by Marty Gervais. Jessica's experiences and subsequent natural step into the Public History MA program will create a solid foundation for a developing career working with archives and presenting the material to the public.

Atlanta is the capital of and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia, with an estimated 2013 population of 447,841.[6] Atlanta is the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area, home to 5,522,942 people and the ninth largest metropolitan area in the United States.[7] Atlanta is the county seat of Fulton County, and a small portion of the city extends eastward into DeKalb County.
Atlanta is considered an "alpha-" or "world city",[17] ranking 36th among world cities and 8th in the nation with a gross domestic product of $270 billion.[18] Atlanta's economy is considered diverse, with dominant sectors including logistics, professional and business services, media operations, and information technology.[19] Topographically, Atlanta is marked by rolling hills and dense tree coverage.[20] Revitalization of Atlanta's neighborhoods, initially spurred by the 1996 Olympics, has intensified in the 21st century, altering the city's demographics, politics, and culture.[21][22]
Tourism
As of 2010, Atlanta is the seventh-most visited city in the United States, with over 35 million visitors per year.[158] Although the most popular attraction among visitors to Atlanta is the Georgia Aquarium,[159] the world's largest indoor aquarium,[160] Atlanta's tourism industry mostly driven by the city's history museums and outdoor attractions. Atlanta contains a notable amount of historical museums and sites, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, which includes the preserved childhood home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as his final resting place; the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum, which houses a massive painting and diorama in-the-round, with a rotating central audience platform, depicting the Battle of Atlanta in the Civil War; the World of Coca-Cola, featuring the history of the world famous soft drink brand and its well-known advertising; the College Football Hall of Fame which honors college football and its athletes; the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, which explores the American Civil Rights Movement and its connection to contemporary human rights movements throughout the world; the Carter Center and Presidential Library, housing U.S. President Jimmy Carter's papers and other material relating to the Carter administration and the Carter family's life; and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum, site of the writing of the best-selling novel Gone with the Wind.
Atlanta also contains various outdoor attractions.[161] The Atlanta Botanical Garden, adjacent to Piedmont Park, is home to the 600-foot-long (180 m) Kendeda Canopy Walk, a skywalk that allows visitors to tour one of the city's last remaining urban forests from 40-foot-high (12 m). The Canopy Walk is considered the only canopy-level pathway of its kind in the United States. Zoo Atlanta, located in Grant Park, accommodates over 1,300 animals representing more than 220 species. Home to the nation's largest collections of gorillas and orangutans, the Zoo is also one of only four zoos in the U.S. to house giant pandas.[162] Festivals showcasing arts and crafts, film, and music, including the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, the Atlanta Film Festival, and Music Midtown, respectively, are also popular with tourists.[163]
Sports
Atlanta is home to professional franchises for three major team sports: the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball, the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association, and the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. The Braves, who moved to Atlanta in 1966, were established as the Boston Red Stockings in 1871 and are the oldest continually operating professional sports franchise in the United States.[citation needed] The Braves won the World Series in 1995, and had an unprecedented run of 14 straight divisional championships from 1991 to 2005.[171]

About MLB.com:
Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced on January 19, 2000, that the 30 Major League club owners voted unanimously to centralize all of Baseball's internet operations into an independent technology company. Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) was formed and charged with developing, building and managing the most comprehensive baseball experience available on the internet. In August 2002, MLB.com streamed the first-ever live, full length MLB game when the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees faced off at Yankee Stadium. Since that time, millions of baseball fans around the world have subscribed to MLB.TV, the live video streaming product that airs every game in HD to nearly 400 different devices. MLB.com also provides an array of mobile apps for fans to choose from, including At Bat, the highest-grossing iOS sports app of all-time. MLB.com features a stable of club beat reporters and award-winning national columnists, the largest contingent of baseball reporters under one roof, who deliver over 100 original articles every day. MLB.com also offers extensive historical information and footage, online ticket sales, official baseball merchandise, authenticated memorabilia and collectibles and fantasy games.
Major League Baseball consists of 30 teams split between the American and National Leagues. The American League, originally founded in 1901, consists of the following teams: Baltimore Orioles; Boston Red Sox; Chicago White Sox; Cleveland Indians; Detroit Tigers; Houston Astros; Kansas City Royals; Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim; Minnesota Twins; New York Yankees; Oakland Athletics; Seattle Mariners; Tampa Bay Rays; Texas Rangers; and Toronto Blue Jays. The National League, originally founded in 1876, consists of the following teams: Arizona Diamondbacks; Atlanta Braves; Chicago Cubs; Cincinnati Reds; Colorado Rockies; Los Angeles Dodgers; Miami Marlins; Milwaukee Brewers; New York Mets; Philadelphia Phillies; Pittsburgh Pirates; San Diego Padres; San Francisco Giants; St. Louis Cardinals; and Washington Nationals.

Fisk is best known for "waving fair" his game-winning home run in the 12th inning of Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. At the time of his retirement in 1993, he held the record for most home runs all-time by a catcher with 351 (since passed by Mike Piazza). Fisk held the record for most games played at the position of catcher (2,226) until June 17, 2009 when he was surpassed by another "Pudge", Iván Rodríguez. Fisk still holds the American League record for most years served behind the plate (24). Fisk was voted to the All-Star team 11 times and won three Silver Slugger Awards which is awarded annually to the best offensive player at each position.

Carlton Ernest Fisk (born December 26, 1947) is a retired Major League Baseball catcher. During a 24-year baseball career, he played for both the Boston Red Sox (1969, 1971–1980) and Chicago White Sox (1981–1993). The 6'2", 220 lb Fisk was known in the majors as "Pudge", his childhood nickname as he had been a chubby youngster, or "The Commander". He was the first player to be unanimously voted American League Rookie of the Year (1972).

After succeeding the larger-than-life Kenesaw Mountain Landis as commissioner in 1945, Albert Happy Chandler guided baseball through six turbulent years. A former U.S. senator and governor of Kentucky, the honest Chandler maintained the commissioner's office as a position of authority. He took swift action against players who left to play in the Mexican League and presided over the game when Brooklyn Dodgers' president Branch Rickey signed Jackie Robinson in 1945 and integrated Major League baseball in 1947.
