The Railways at Work is a favourite of mine and as I couldn't make it on the Saturday and Sunday, and the weather forecast was better for Friday, my mind was made up for me. Although the cameos were not on at Quorn the important thing for an S&D; nut like me was that 53808 was running. I make no apology for concentrating on this visitor. One or two of my shots are almost pure S&D.; I love the station announcements at Quorn for stations to Bournemouth and Nottingham Victoria! Regarding Quorn, I was sickened by a notice saying that enamel signs had been stolen!

The Great Central Railway's 2016 winter steam gala would have a southern feel to proceedings this year and with the inclusion of The Battle of Britain Class, 'Sir Keith Park' & backed up by 31806 'U' Class, the event would see large crowds flock to the event, especially on the Saturday, where it was standing room only across most trains. With eight locomotives in steam throughout Saturday & Sunday, the guest locos were well supported by the home fleet, though in this video the focus is mainly on the guest engines.
This year's gala would see the travelling post office trains return to the timetable, after the bizarre decision not be included in the Autumn Steam Gala. A much welcomed return it was. The video is taken over the Friday & Saturday, with some nice spells of sunshine eventually coming through in the afternoon, though the presence of strong winds would reduce the sound of the locos and make it a bit tricky at times. I am currently getting to grips with new equipment, so there might be a slight odd jerk a few times, so apologies for that.
All in all, another great event put on by the GCR, with no letting up of their superb timetable, which makes it a must attend event for the avid steam enthusiast. I hope you enjoy the video.
