Gunsan is a city in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. It is on the south bank of the Geum River just upstream from its exit into the Yellow Sea. It has emerged as a high-tech manufacturing industrial city and an international trade seaport that is approximately 200 km southwest of Seoul on the midwest coast of the Korean Peninsula.
Kunsan Air Base operated by the United States Air Force is in the city. To encourage investment, a free trade zone has been declared in the area.
Famous people from Gunsan include actress Lee Eun-ju, comedian Park Myeong-su, and Teen Top member L.Joe.
Gunsan was a small fishing village on the banks of the Geum River, near where the river spills into the Yellow Sea. It sits on the fertile western Honam plain where much rice is harvested. Gunsan became a port in the late 19th century largely due to pressure from the Japanese on the Koreans to ship rice to Japan. In 1899, Gunsan Port officially opened up to international trade. Gunsan City was largely settled by Japanese during the period of Japanese colonization. The old (now demolished) City Hall and the Customs House are of Japanese construction. After liberation from the Japanese in 1945, Gunsan began to grow slowly.

On Day 8 in South Korea, we took a day trip from Jeonju to a city called Gunsan, and had some of the most exotic seafood that I’ve ever had in my life. 00:53 Jungdong Hotteok (중동 호떡) - 900 Won ($0.77) and railroad track walked through - The drive from Jeonju to Gunsan took about an hour and as soon as we arrived we started off with a small snack of a Korean hotteok, and then we continued onto the old railroad track. There’s not really much to do on the railroad truck, but just walk around for a little while. 2:29 Champon at Boksongru (복성루) Restaurant - One of the greatest indicators of good food is long lines of people, and even in a small little town like Gunsan, on a weekday and earlier than the normal lunch rush, Boksongru (복성루) already had a line and was packed. It took about 30 minu...

After grabbing our bags, we bought T-money cards for transportation, and then we caught the train metro from the airport to Seoul Station. It’s very easy to use and it’s pretty affordable too at just 3,250 Won ($2.73) per person for the ride. The train ride from Incheon airport to Seoul Station takes about one hour. ...

► Seoul Travel Guide for Food Lovers: https://migrationology.com/travel-guides/seoul-korea/ On Day 4 in South Korea, we decided to take a day trip to Nami Island, which is a famous touristy island a couple hours away from Seoul. Once we arrived, we had a dish called dak galbi. It was an alright day, but not my favorite. 00:24 Metro to Gapyeong Station - 2,250 Won ($1.90) - One of the things that truly amazing me about Seoul is that the public Metro / Subway is incredibly extensive. You can even travel for hours and get way out of the city, but still using the Seoul Metro. On this trip it literally took us about 2 full hours to arrive to Gapyeong Station. We made a couple transfers, but eventually made it, and had to take a quick taxi ride to Nami Pier. 1:48 Dak Galbi (닭갈비) - For lunch, ...

We started off visiting some attractions in Muscat like the fish market and souk, then had some amazing Omani food, and visited a couple beaches. The highlight of the day for me was eating Omani street food mishkak and an Omani meal of camel and rice. 00:51 Chai karak and cheese bread in the car - A common Omani food breakfast is the combination of tea, which is usually called chai karak, and cheese bread.
