Walter Thomas Huston (/ˈwɔːltər ˈhjuːstən/; April 5, 1883 – April 7, 1950) was a Canadian-born American actor and singer. He was the father of actor and director John Huston, the grandfather of Pablo Huston, Walter Anthony (Tony) Huston, Anjelica Huston, Danny Huston, and Allegra Huston, and the great-grandfather of actor Jack Huston.
Huston was born in Toronto, Ontario, where he attended Winchester Street Public School. He was the son of Elizabeth (née McGibbon) and Robert Moore Houghston, a provincial farmer who founded a construction company. He was of Scottish and Irish descent. He had a brother and two sisters, one of whom was the famous theatrical voice coach Margaret Carrington (1877–1941).
His family moved from Orangeville, Ontario before his birth where they were farmers. As a young man he worked in construction and in his spare time attended the Shaw School of Acting. He made his stage debut in 1902. He went on to tour in In Convict Stripes, a play by Hal Reid, father of Wallace Reid and also appeared with Richard Mansfield in Julius Caesar. He again toured in another play The Sign of the Cross. In 1904, he married Rhea Gore (1882–1938) and gave up acting to work as a manager of electric power stations in Nevada, Missouri. He maintained these jobs till 1909 during which time the couple had a son, John in 1906.

Traveling west, former peace officer Frame Johnson and his three friends arrive in Tombstone, a lawless town controlled by the three Northrup brothers. Preceded by his reputation, the town Council tries to get him to take the job of Marshal. He says he will not wear a badge again but seeing the ruthless Northrup murders he accepts. After a killing on both sides, although outnumbered, Johnson and his two remaing friends head to the OK Corral for a shoot out with the two remaining Northrups and their men.

Two scenes from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" with Walter Huston
Surely one of the most memorable songs made in the 1930's. Music by Kurt Weill, lyrics by Maxwell Anderson.
One of the most beautiful Weill compositions wonderfully presented by Huston.
This is the longer version of September Song. The singer is Walter Huston who was somewhat limited in range but for whom composer Kurt Weill and lyricist Maxwell Anderson wrote this specially. The song originally appeared in the Broadway show 'Knickerbocker Holiday' in 1938. According to the sleeve notes of 'Mack The Knife - Songs of Kurt Weill' this version was recorded in 1938 and 1944. For me it's the definitive version...nobody puts the same longing and melancholy into it as Walter Huston. Enjoy!!!
This song is a favorite of mine b'cuz of Walter Huston, and the movie was a good one too, My genius buddy helped me load this b'cuz I'm a clutz in this field and just learning the entering of movies......Thanks Loony
Walter Huston first introduced "September Song" in the 1938 Broadway Musical "Knickerbocker Holiday". It of course went on be a great American Standard, sung and recorded by many artists over the years. The song originated from Walter Huston's request that he should have one solo song in Knickerbocker Holiday, if he was going to play the role of the aged dictator Peter Stuyvesant. Anderson and Weill wrote the song specifically for Huston's gruff voice and limited vocal range, in a couple of hours. The musical enjoyed only moderate success and closed in April 1939 after six months, but the song quickly became established as a modern standard. Here is the very first "definitive version" of that great song, sung by Huston, and featured on Brunswick Record, recorded the same year as the musica...
I don't know why they took the picture off - it's just a G-rated old black & white movie. Here's my friend's new rodeo song, Bull Rider: http://youtu.be/nR06-cy50s8. Gene Reynolds is taken to the woodshed by Walter Huston in Of Human Hearts (1938), with Beulah Bondi. The film also starred James Stewart (as Reynolds' character grown up), John Carradine, Gene Lockhart, Ann Rutherford, Guy Kibbee, Charles Coburn, Sterling Holloway. In a later scene Stewart is taken to the woodshed by John Carradine - as Abraham Lincoln - which is also posted here. After numerous child roles, Reynolds went on to direct many TV shows including Leave It To Beaver, Hogan's Heros, MASH, Lois and Clark, and Touched By An Angel.

Lux Radio Theater, a long-run classic radio anthology series, was broadcast on the NBC Blue Network (1934-35); CBS (1935-54) and NBC (1954-55). Initially, the series adapted Broadway plays during its first two seasons before it began adapting films. These hour-long radio programs were performed live before studio audiences. It became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio, broadcast for more than 20 years and continued on television as the Lux Video Theatre through most of the 1950s. Broadcasting from New York, the series premiered at 2:30pm, October 14, 1934, on the NBC Blue Network with a production of Seventh Heaven starring Miriam Hopkins and John Boles in a full-hour adaptation of the 1922–24 Broadway production by Austin Strong. The host was the show's fictional producer...
Propaganda documentary directed by Frank Capra, with story preparation by Ernst Lubitsch, and narrated by Walter Huston. It's an exploration of why one of the two major Axis Powers countries started World War II and what had to be done to keep them from "doing it again". It shows people such as housewives, mailmen, farmers and policemen at work, and notes that these people were not so different from us, and seem like people Americans can understand. Anthony Veiller then interrupts with "Or can we?", as the film then switches to a montage of Nazi concentration camps and piles of dead bodies. The narrator notes that this is not the only time that Germany has unleashed war on the world, stating that while its generation fought the "Nazis", its fathers fought the "Huns" (pejorative term for G...

One of the most controversial movies of its time, The Outlaw features a sizzling performance by 22-year old Jane Russell. Director Howard Hughes delivers this thrilling tale of Doc Holiday and Billy the Kid and their feud over a fiery woman name Rio (Russell). The Outlaw has been beautifully restored, capturing the breathtaking cinematography of the legendary Greg Tolland (Citizen Kane), and is in color for the first time!
In a somewhat stagey introduction made for the re-release of The Birth of a Nation in 1930, D. W. Griffith explains to his actor friend Walter Huston his motivations for making the film in 1915.
Anjelica Huston is descended from Hollywood royalty—the daughter of famed director John Huston and the granddaughter the notable actor Walter Huston. Like them, she won an Oscar and created a slew of memorable roles in such films as "Prizzi’s Honor," "The Grifters," "The Addams Family," and "The Royal Tenenbaums." But Huston has also surpassed her famous relatives by achieving the status of icon; her fame extends beyond film into the worlds of art and modeling, theater and television. Now she’s added a new accomplishment—writer. Her rich personal and professional history have made for a bedazzling memoir. The first installment, "A Story Lately Told," detailed her enchanted childhood and her coming-of-age as a model and nascent actress in New York. As the second volume, "Watch Me," is rele...
I could watch or listen to Danny Huston do just about anything and, sure enough, he turns up the charisma big time as gossip columnist Dick Nolan in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes. Dick’s under the impression that he can make folks famous with his work and that’s exactly what Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz) is looking for, so the two strike up a partnership of sorts. But, little does Dick know, Walter doesn’t deserve the attention he’s about to get for those big-eyed waif paintings he claims are his because he didn’t make them; his wife Margaret (Amy Adams) did. Shortly before Big Eyes’ Christmas Day limited release, I sat down with Huston to talk about his love of Tim Burton’s work, what it was like working with Burton as an actor’s director, his unparalleled narration skills, what’s coming up o...

Refrain:
Wir weiten uns aus
Der Osten wird groß
Die Parole heißt
Rüber, nieder, los
