Patrice Leconte (French: [ləkɔ̃t]; born 12 November 1947) is a French film director, actor, comic strip writer, and screenwriter.
Leconte grew up in Tours, and began making little amateur films at 15. He went to Paris in 1967 and studied at Institut des hautes études cinématographiques. While attending film school in the late 1960s, Leconte also worked as cartoonist, in particular for the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Pilote. He directed his first feature film in 1976, and had a number of major successes with comedy films that were barely distributed outside France. He first came to international attention in 1989 with Monsieur Hire, which was shown at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival and which was a radical departure from his previous work. Although he had already directed more than half a dozen features, many foreign critics, unfamiliar with his previous work, essentially treated him as a newcomer. Since then, he has alternated between films such as Ridicule and L'homme du train which have had success in the international arthouse market, and others, like Les Grands Ducs, whose appeal has been limited to France.
"Walkin' Blues" or "Walking Blues" is a blues standard written and recorded by American Delta blues musician Son House in 1930. Although unissued at the time, it was part of House's repertoire and other musicians, including Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters adapted the song and recorded their own versions.
Besides "Walking Blues", Johnson's 1936 rendition incorporates melodic and rhythmic elements from House's "My Black Mama" (which House also used for his "Death Letter") and slide guitar techniques Johnson learned from House. In 1941, Waters recorded the song with some different lyrics as "Country Blues" for his first field recording session for Alan Lomax. It served as the basis for his first charting song "(I Feel Like) Going Home" for Leonard Chess in 1948. He later recorded "Walkin' Blues" with lyrics closer to House's and Johnson's for his first single released on Chess Records in 1950. A variety of musicians recorded the song over the years, usually an electric ensemble piece.
March of the Penguins (French La Marche de l'empereur ; French pronunciation: [lamaʁʃ dəlɑ̃ˈpʁœʁ]) is a 2005 French feature length nature documentary directed and co-written by Luc Jacquet, and co-produced by Bonne Pioche and the National Geographic Society. The documentary depicts the yearly journey of the emperor penguins of Antarctica. In autumn, all the penguins of breeding age (five years old and over) leave the ocean, their normal habitat, to walk inland to their ancestral breeding grounds. There, the penguins participate in a courtship that, if successful, results in the hatching of a chick. For the chick to survive, both parents must make multiple arduous journeys between the ocean and the breeding grounds over the ensuing months.
It took one year for the two isolated cinematographers Laurent Chalet and Jérôme Maison to shoot the documentary, which was shot around the French scientific base of Dumont d'Urville in Adélie Land.
The documentary won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
Luc Jacquet (born 5 December 1967) is a French film director and screenwriter. He wrote and directed the film March of the Penguins, which won an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2005. He also directed The Fox And the Child. It was released in Britain and Ireland in slightly re-edited dubbed English-language version with narration by Kate Winslet, and was released in the United States on 29 February 2008.
His 2015 film Ice and the Sky was selected to close the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

This week the departments of IRES and Sociology & Social Anthropology, in cooperation with the Religious Studies Program, organized a seminar and lecture with the renowned American sociologist and author of The Social Construction of Reality and The Sacred Canopy, Peter L. Berger. The topic of the seminar was Bergers most recent (co-authored) book, entitled Religious America, Secular Europe?. Published in 2008, the work addresses some common assumptions about the levels of religiosity in the US and Europe and attempts to trace their bases. After a brief introduction to Bergers current and past work, the audience (consisting mostly of CEU PhD students and professors) was invited to direct their questions to the leading scholar on secularization theory. At the center of the discussion was ...
