Following (per MIXMAG) the “captivating” long-player’s release in May, ‘Lights’ established itself as a frontrunner favourite with PvD devotees and its single release (Paul states) is “simply my response to their response!”
The single’s release is completed with a trance translation from Giuseppe Ottaviani, Wee-O’s irrepressibly uplifting, festival-minded rework, a housier creation from bright-young-thing Owen Westlake and an enigmatic, ether-steeped official vid from US features director/producer, Adam Mason.
Having previously cast her spell over ‘EVOLUTION’s live-show fave ‘We Come Together’ and more recently ‘POD3’s Aly & Fila co-op ‘Guardian’, singer/songwriter/regular PvD muse Sue McLaren returns to vocal duties. Through enigmatic, oblique lyrics and the track’s bittersweet vocals, she brings ‘Lights’ her singularly expressive touch.
In its Original Mix form, Paul takes it down a cooler, more subliminal production path. Reflecting that, the UK-based singer lends it a wholly entrancing vocal performance - one that DJ Mag UK said (in an advance 8/10 review) “could be Sue McLaren’s best yet”.
Remixes come from long time van Dyk studio confident (and ‘POD3’ collaborator) Giuseppe Ottaviani, who, through floor empowering trance, drives ‘Lights’ later into the night. Having already excelled on his ‘Only In A Dream’ rewire, and with remix credits for Tiësto and others to his name, Owen Westlake has deeper, housier designs for the release. Finding middle-ground between the two, Berliner Wee-O’s summer summarising remake has ‘outdoor’ stamped all over it and brings ‘Lights’ its utopic festival moment.
Having brought psychological thriller features including ‘The Devil’s Chair’, ‘Broken’ and ‘Prey’ to the screen, UK-born/US-based director Adam Mason is the man behind ‘Lights’ visual dimension. 2014 marked the year international electronic musician PAUL VAN DYK returned to the singles realm with “Come With Me (We Are One),” a collaboration between the electronic music overlord and Turkish/Dutch wonderkind Ummet Ozcan, “Only In A Dream” with Jessus & Ahdam Ashraf featuring Tricia McTeague and “Guardian” with Aly & Fila featuring Sue McLaren--three fiercely infectious pieces of floor-propelling electronic music. Over late December/early January 2015, the original mix of “Guardian” roared across floors, claiming the #2 spot on Beatport’s trance chart in the process. Now the track has been remixed for Guardian (The Remixes), a four-track EP that will be made available on February 10 on Ultra Music. Pre-order is available now at: smarturl.it/GuardianRMXs
Along with the release of the Guardian (The Remixes) EP, PAUL VAN DYK will return to the U.S. for a short support tour launching tomorrow, February 6 in San Francisco. Other stops planned for February include Seattle, San Antonio, Dallas, New York, San Diego and Los Angeles. PvD will also return to Miami to appear at the Ultra Music Conference in March. “Guardian” brings together PvD, Aly & Fila, three producers long celebrated for wowing the clubbing lands with their height-of-the-night productions. For the remix EP, the trio’s Sunrise and Sunset mixes drop some expectation-subverting versions into “Guardian”’s equation. Unexpected, different, surprising even, their more recumbent tones, dovetailed to Sue McLaren’s sweetly sung vocals and bittersweet lyrics, mass to take music lovers to places they may never wish to return from. For his mix, Goodgreef’s Jordan Suckley goes pole-to-pole delivering a rework that seismically blasts “Guardian” through to the heart of 6am. Tough, on an almost cellular level, Suckley’s thunderous remap will thoroughly test the mettle of your club’s speakers. Then Pedro Del Mar & R.I.B take the track on a chilled ride to the lounge side. Linking the circle back to the Sunrise and Sunset mixes, the two deliver a richly produced, brilliantly structured revision perfect for the ride home after a long night of revelry.

Originality

Paul van Dyk
Matthias Paul (pronounced [maˈtiːas ˈpaʊ̯l]), better known by his stage name Paul van Dyk (pronounced [fan ˈdʏk]; born 16 December 1971 in Eisenhüttenstadt, East Germany) is a German Grammy Award-winning electronic dance music DJ, musician and record producer. One of the first true superstar DJs, Paul van Dyk was the first artist to receive a Grammy nomination in the newly added category of Best Dance/Electronic album for his 2003 release Reflections. He was named the World's No. 1 DJ in both 2005 and 2006, something only few DJs have ever achieved. He was the first ever DJ to be named No. 1 by Mixmag in 2005. By 2008, he had sold over 3 million albums worldwide.
A trance producer starting in the early 1990s, Paul quickly achieved popularity with his remix of "Love Stimulation" by Humate on the record label MFS in 1993 and with his hit single "For an Angel" but, in recent times, he no longer likes to describe his music as trance, but rather simply as electronic music.
Paul van Dyk is currently the radio host of "Vonyc Sessions with Paul" on Dash Radio.

Through enigmatic, oblique lyrics and the track’s bittersweet vocals, she brings ‘Lights’ her singularly expressive touch.
In its Original Mix form, Paul takes it down a cooler, more subliminal production path. Reflecting that, the UK-based singer lends it a wholly entrancing vocal performance - one that DJ Mag UK said (in an advance 8/10 review) “could be Sue McLaren’s best yet”.
Remixes come from long time van Dyk studio confident (and ‘POD3’ collaborator) Giuseppe Ottaviani, who, through floor empowering trance, drives ‘Lights’ later into the night. Having already excelled on his ‘Only In A Dream’ rewire, and with remix credits for Tiësto and others to his name, Owen Westlake has deeper, housier designs for the release. Finding middle-ground between the two, Berliner Wee-O’s summer summarising remake has ‘outdoor’ stamped all over it and brings ‘Lights’ its utopic festival moment.
Having brought psychological thriller features including ‘The Devil’s Chair’, ‘Broken’ and ‘Prey’ to the screen, UK-born/US-based director Adam Mason is the man behind ‘Lights’ visual dimension. Along with the release of the Guardian (The Remixes) EP, PAUL VAN DYK will return to the U.S. for a short support tour launching tomorrow, February 6 in San Francisco. Other stops planned for February include Seattle, San Antonio, Dallas, New York, San Diego and Los Angeles. PvD will also return to Miami to appear at the Ultra Music Conference in March. “Guardian” brings together PvD, Aly & Fila, three producers long celebrated for wowing the clubbing lands with their height-of-the-night productions. For the remix EP, the trio’s Sunrise and Sunset mixes drop some expectation-subverting versions into “Guardian”’s equation. Unexpected, different, surprising even, their more recumbent tones, dovetailed to Sue McLaren’s sweetly sung vocals and bittersweet lyrics, mass to take music lovers to places they may never wish to return from. For his mix, Goodgreef’s Jordan Suckley goes pole-to-pole delivering a rework that seismically blasts “Guardian” through to the heart of 6am. Tough, on an almost cellular level, Suckley’s thunderous remap will thoroughly test the mettle of your club’s speakers. Then Pedro Del Mar & R.I.B take the track on a chilled ride to the lounge side. Linking the circle back to the Sunrise and Sunset mixes, the two deliver a richly produced, brilliantly structured revision perfect for the ride home after a long night of revelry.
