Jankidas

Jankidas Mehra (1910 – 18 June 2003) was a prolific Indian film actor of Hindi Cinema, cyclist, production designer and writer. He made over 1000 film appearances between the 1930s and 1997.

Biography

Jankidas served as the only Indian member of the International Olympic Committee at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and the only Indian to have broken the world record in cycling between 1934 and 1942.

In the 1940s, along with Sohrab Bhoot, he founded the Cycling Federation of India

Films

Jankidas debuted in film playing a major role in Khazanchi (1941) produced in Lahore. He was seeen against till 1946 when he would appear in Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani. From then on he would continue to play roles with increasing vigour over the years.

Jankidas is credited with being the first production designer in the Indian film industry and had designed several films including Pathar aur Paya and Warrant. As a production designer, Jankidas was responsible for the founding of many famous Indian actor careers. He was responsible for Madhubala's role in Sohrab Modi's Daulat in 1947 and introduced Meena Kumari in Nanabhai Bhatt's Hamara Ghar and Khusboo in Sunil Dutt's Dard Ka Rishta. He also introduced actress Mala Sinha in Hamlet, produced and directed by Kishore Sahu.

Plot: Mahesh is a honest and diligent young man, who has no knowledge of his background as he was raised in an orphanage. One day he meets Reshma, who is also an orphan, and both fall in love and get married. They live a harmonious life, and soon are proud parents of a healthy young boy who they name Lucky. Lucky grows up to be as honest and diligent as his dad, and his future appears to be very bright. Lucky has a childhood sweetheart in Lata, and both plan to marry soon with the blessings of their respective parents. Then Mahesh's world is turned upside down when he finds drugs in Lucky's pocket. He speaks to Lucky about this, and Lucky promises to give up drugs forever, and does live up to his promise. While driving home one day, Mahesh witnesses a drug peddler selling drugs to a group of youths, which also included Lucky. He notifies the police, and they arrest the youths, but the peddler manages to escape. All the other youth tested positive for drugs, except for Lucky. When he returns home, his parents refuse to believe him, this angers him and he and his father come close to fisticuffs. Mahesh asks Lucky to leave, and he does so. Even Lata will have nothing to do with him. Lucky regresses to drugs and his friends, until he runs out of money. Now he must either steal or even consider killing someone for money, - and the only ones he could think of taking money from are his parents. What will be Lucky's fate?

Plot: Kiran is the only child of wealthy widower, Thakur. While she resides in Britain, her dad lives in a palatial house in rural India. When the time comes for her to return home, her dad arrives at the airport to receive and is surprised to see her in the company of a young man, who she later introduces as her husband, Suraj. Thakur overcomes his shock at seeing Suraj, but welcomes him. On the way while driving, Suraj sees a woman in white blocking the road, but the driver is unable to stop the car in time. They alight from the car and note that there is no one on the road. That night, Suraj has a dream about a woman clad in white who is summoning him to her, claiming that she is Nisha, his wife from a previous birth. Using her magical powers she inserts a nail in one of Suraj's legs on a new moon night. All she has to do is wait for the next new moon, then insert another nail in Suraj's other foot, and then wait for Karva Chouth - that is the day that will put him completely under her control. Nisha also has an old score to settle with Thakur. A frantic Kiran cannot hear of this and she and her dad seek help from Tantrik Baba and Bhavani Baba. The question remains will the Tantrik and Bhavani be able to assist them or will they too fall prey to the vengeful spirit.

Plot: Raj (Naseeruddin Shah) is a slum dweller, who one day comes to know that he has inherited the business and property from his grand-father worth 3.3 billion Indian rupees. Stunned and delighted at the same time, he gleefully arrives at his former grand-father's estate to claim his inheritance, only to be told that there is a clause attached: which is that he must spend 300 Million rupees in 30 days or else risk losing his inheritance altogether. How can a slum dweller who has never held a thousand rupees in his hands on any given day, be expected to spend 10 million a day?

Plot: Vijay is a simple-minded widower who lives in a small rural town in India with his unmarried sister, Radha; his son; and his widowed mom. Radha is soon to be married to Sub-Inspector Raj. One day Vijay witnesses a killing of a young child by notorious bandit Bhagad Singh, and chides him. As a result, Bhagad and his gang severely beat him up, and only spare his life after Vijay's mom begs them to forgive him. But Lala Dayaluram hires Bhagad to ensure that Vijay and his family leave the town, and when they refuse Vijay is abducted, severely beaten and left for dead. An escaped convict and killer named Karan, who happens to be Vijay's exact look-alike, sees the unconscious Vijay, and decides to assume his identity, stabs him, and throws him to his death from atop a cliff. Karan then goes to live with his family. The motive for Karan to live here is merely to hide under Vijay's name until the police give up their manhunt for him. No one really notices the change in Vijay. Karan starts to frequent the nearby brothel run by Kammobai, and soon realizes that he can make a lot of money by selling young women to her. His first target that he intends to lure to Kammobai is none other than Radha, Vijay's sister. This is just one of the destructive methods he intends to employ in his new identity and there is no one who can dare to suspect nor stop him.

She meets with a young man, Shekhar, and both fall in love with each other, so much so that she invites him to work on her dad's island. Her dad employs Shekhar and hopes to get his daughter married to him. But before that could happen, six men men who had duped by Dhanraj several years ago, arrive on the island incognito, enlist the assistance of the island's native people, led by Heera, who have been oppressed by Dhanraj and Captain Ashok, to recover their loot and kill Dhanraj and Anju. It is here that Anju will find out that the reason Shekhar accompanied her was not because he loves her, but for quite some other unknown and devious reason.

Then criminal don, Chimanbhai, perturbed by Fakira's thefts, recruits a hit-man named Toofan to abduct or possibly kill Fakira by any and all means. Fakira unknowingly befriends Toofan. The trusting Fakira does not know that the woman he has married is the daughter of the Police Commissioner, and is herself a Plainclothes Policewoman assigned to arrest and bring him to justice; and that Toofan is none other than his younger brother, Ajay.

Plot: Even after attaining a bachelors degree, Ajit Sharma is unable to secure any employment in order to better the lifestyle of his widowed mother, sister, Meena, elder brother Gopuram and a younger brother. He gets frustrated and takes to robbing and stealing. Being an amateur he is arrested by the police and sentenced to two years in jail. After he completes his sentence, he decides to be honest and seek employment, but without any success. Then one day he wins some money after beating a wrestler. He decides to buy some necessities for his family, which inter Alia consists of a school-bag. When Gopuram opens the bag, he finds it filled with cash. The family is enraged that Ajit has obtained these funds through crime, but Ajit defends himself, finds out who the owner (Premchand) is and returns the money to him. A gratified Premchand employs Ajit with a generous remuneration. Ajit meets with Premchand's daughter, Rekha, and both fall in love, and would like to get married. Before that could happen, a woman comes forward claiming that Ajit is her husband, and is also the father of a child; the police arrest Ajit for the murder of a man named Karam Singh. As a result, Premchand fires him from employment, his family will have nothing to do with him, and Ajit must now come to terms that he may face the death penalty.

Reuters is reporting a marked discrepancy in figures relating to Russian servicemen killed fighting in Syria thus far this year between the country’s Defense Ministry and accounts from families and friends.According to Defense Ministry figures, 10 servicemen have been killed in the fighting ...
