List of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman episodes

The following is an episode list for the television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. In the United States, the show aired on ABC, premiering on September 12, 1993, and concluding on June 14, 1997. At the end of its run, 87 episodes had aired. The show is available on DVD in Regions 1, 2, and 4.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman follows the life of Clark Kent/Superman (Dean Cain) and Lois Lane (Teri Hatcher) as they first meet, and begin a working and romantic relationship with each other. The series featured Lane Smith as Perry White, K Callan as Martha Kent, Eddie Jones as Jonathan Kent, and John Shea as Lex Luthor. Jimmy Olsen was played by Michael Landes in season one; he was let go at the end of the first season due to producers thinking he looked too much like Dean Cain. Justin Whalin was brought in for season two, and he continued the role until the series ended.

Season 1: 1993–94

Seconds (song)

"Seconds" is the second track on U2's 1983 album, War. The track, with its recurring lyric of "it takes a second to say goodbye", refers to nuclear proliferation. It is the first song in the band's history not sung solely by Bono, as the Edge sings the first two stanzas.

There is a break of approximately 11 seconds in the song at 2:10 featuring a sample of a 1982 TV documentary titled “Soldier Girls”. Bono said that he was watching this documentary while he was waiting in the green room in Windmill Lane Studios and he recorded it. The band felt it would fit well into the song as unsettling evidence of soldiers training for an atomic bomb explosion.

Writing and inspiration

"'Seconds' is particularly pertinent today because it's about the idea that at some point someone, somewhere, would get their hands on nuclear material and build a suitcase bomb in an apartment in western capital. It was twenty years early but I wouldn't call it prophetic, I'd just call it obvious."

During his writer's block period in 1982, Bono felt it was lonely writing lyrics, so he asked the Edge to assist in writing, but the guitarist wasn't interested in such a goal. The Edge finally wrote the line It takes a second to say goodbye. Bono wrote the remainder of the lyrics. On the recording, the Edge sings the first verse of the song. Lyrics in the song about dancing to the atomic bomb is a reference to "Drop the Bomb," a song by Go-go group Trouble Funk, who were U2's labelmates on Island Records.

Seconds (Kate Rogers album)

Seconds is the third album released by Kate Rogers. Her first album was a compilation of her guest appearances as vocalist on Grand Central Records releases, entitled Kate Rogers Vs Grand Central. This was followed by St. Eustacia, an album of original material, written and performed by Rogers.

Seconds consists of 8 somewhat surprising cover versions in Kate's downtempo style, plus one new original track, written and performed with Grand Central Records label-mate, Jon Kennedy

Suicide

Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one's own death. Suicide is often carried out as a result of despair, the cause of which is frequently attributed to a mental disorder such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder,alcoholism, or drug abuse, as well as stress factors such as financial difficulties, troubles with interpersonal relationships, and bullying.Suicide prevention efforts include limiting access to method of suicide such as firearms and poisons, treating mental illness and drug misuse, and improving economic conditions. Although crisis hotlines are common, there is little evidence for their effectiveness.

The most commonly used method of suicide varies between countries and is partly related to the availability of effective means. Common methods include: hanging, pesticide poisoning, and firearms. Suicide resulted in 842,000 deaths in 2013. This is up from 712,000 deaths in 1990. This makes it the 10th leading cause of death worldwide. Rates of completed suicides are higher in men than in women, with males three to four times more likely to kill themselves than females. There are an estimated 10 to 20 million non-fatal attempted suicides every year. Non-fatal suicide attempts may lead to injury and long-term disabilities. In the Western world, attempts are more common in young people and are four times more common in females than in males.

Suicide (game)

Suicide (sometimes abbreviated to "suey"), or otherwise referred to as "wall-ball" or "elimination", is a game typically played by children and teenagers. The rules vary widely from place to place; those given below are not necessarily a "standard" form of the rules.

Setup

Suicide requires at least two players, and can have as many as can be accommodated by the playing area. The playing area can have a hard surface, such as concrete, and a large, flat wall, and is usually outdoors. The game also requires a rubber ball or a tennis ball.

Suicide may be played in teams, but is most commonly played individually.

Gameplay

The object of the game is to be the last remaining player. In order to stay in the game, players have to avoid being "pegged" out.

When the game begins, a player throws the ball against the wall. If the ball bounces off the wall and then hits the ground, other players are free to grab the ball and re-throw. If the ball is caught by another player before it hits the ground, the player who threw the ball must run and touch the wall. Until the player touches the wall, they are "open" to be "pegged" (i.e. struck hard with a thrown ball) by the player who caught it. If a player comes into contact with the ball but fails to catch it, they are also "open" to be "pegged".

Suicide (wrestling)

Suicide is a professional wrestling character, formerly used by multiple professional wrestlers. Suicide first appeared as a fictional character from TNA Impact! the video game. In December 2008, the Suicide character was introduced on television as a real-life wrestler in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Though having been primarily portrayed by Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels took up the mantle for a time in early 2009 and went on to win the X Division Championship. In June 2010 Kiyoshi became the third man to use the gimmick. In October 2010 the gimmick was dropped, but made a brief return in January 2011, once again being portrayed by Christopher Daniels before being dropped once again in April 2011. Suicide returned to television in May 2013 portrayed by T.J. Perkins.Austin Aries wrestled under the Suicide gimmick for one day and won the TNA X Division Championship on the episode of Impact Wrestling which aired on June 27, 2013. Suicide was "revealed" to be T.J. Perkins on the June 30, 2013 episode of Impact Wrestling. Perkins changed his ring name to Manik, using a slightly altered version of the Suicide ring-gear, with new music. Perkins remains the only man to have wrestled under the Manik persona.

Alpha Delphini

Alpha Delphini (α Del, α Delphini) is a multiple star in the constellation Delphinus. It also has the name Sualocin, which was given to it as a practical joke by the astronomer Niccolò Cacciatore; the name is the Latinized version (Nicolaus) of his given name, spelled backwards.

In Chinese, 瓠瓜 (Hù Guā), meaning Good Gourd, refers to an asterism consisting of α Delphini, γ² Delphini, δ Delphini, β Delphini and ζ Delphini. Consequently, α Delphini itself is known as 瓠瓜一 (Hù Guā yī, English: the First Star of Good Gourd.).

Properties

Alpha Delphini has seven components: A and G, a physical binary, and B, C, D, E, and F, which are optical binaries and have no physical association with A and G.
