The Lowlands (Scots: the Lallans or the Lawlands; Scottish Gaelic: a' Ghalldachd, "the place of the foreigner") are a cultural and historic region of Scotland.
The Lowlands is not an official geographical or administrative area of the country. There are two main topographic regions: the Midland Valley (or Central Lowlands) and the Southern Uplands. The term "Lowlands" mainly refers to the Midland Valley. However, in normal usage it refers to those parts of Scotland not in the Highlands (or Gàidhealtachd). The boundary is usually considered to be a line between Stonehaven and Helensburgh (on the Firth of Clyde). The Lowlands lie south and east of the line. Note that some parts of the Lowlands (such as the Southern Uplands) are not physically 'low', and some areas indisputably in the Highlands (such as Islay) are low-lying.
In geological terms, the dividing line between Lowlands and Highlands is the Highland Boundary Fault. There was also a legally defined Highland Line in the post-Culloden years, part of the measures taken to suppress Gaelic culture.
Scottish usually refers to something of, from, or related to Scotland, including:
Scotland is incredible. This video quickly races through 4 days worth of footage shot in Edinburgh, across the Scottish Lowlands and in the Scottish Highlands. While places like Glen Coe are incredible, the more rural and less often visited parts of Scotland are equally impressive. The country is always a wealth of wonderful surprises which as you can see range from rich fresh caught seafood to the hand crafting of Harris tweed, stunning sunsets and even golden sand beaches. Make sure to see part two in this series which covers the Isles of Skye, Lewis and Harris from the same trip. Most of the footage comes from a trip done with Wild in Scotland. I blog about the experiences on http://VirtualWayfarer.com where you can also see my photos from the trip. This video was shot on a Can...

Scots is the Germanic language variety spoken in Lowland Scotland and parts of Ulster (where the local dialect is known as Ulster Scots). It is sometimes called Lowland Scots to distinguish it from Scottish Gaelic, the Celtic language historically restricted to most of the Highlands, the Hebrides and Galloway after the Middle Ages. Because there are no universally accepted criteria for distinguishing languages from dialects, scholars and other interested parties often disagree about the linguistic, historical and social status of Scots. Although a number of paradigms for distinguishing between languages and dialects do exist, these often render contradictory results. Broad Scots is at one end of a bipolar linguistic continuum, with Scottish Standard English at the other. Consequently, Scot...

Coming up in this episode. We race the Scottish Lowlander Railtour marking the 50th Anniversary of the original train that ran in September 1964. The train ran from Crewe to Edinburgh and return with an LMS Duchess doing the Crewe to Carlisle and Return run up shap and an LNER A4 doing the scottish leg from Carlisle to Edinburgh and return. The locomotives from the original run were 46256 Sir William Stanier F.R.S and 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is today the sole survivor from the original train and I thought it mite have been involved with the 50th anniversary but unfortunately the a4 was needed at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as on the same weekend of this trip was the autumn steam gala on the NYMR. On the day of the 50th anniversary the tour could not get...
