Google+

Google+ (pronounced and sometimes written as Google Plus) is an interest-based social network that is owned and operated by Google Inc.

The service, Google's fourth foray into social networking, experienced strong growth in its initial years, although usage statistics have varied, depending on how the service is defined. Three Google executives have overseen the product, which has undergone substantial changes leading to a redesign in November 2015.

History

Creation

Google+ is the company's fourth foray into social networking, following Google Buzz (launched 2010, retired in 2011), Google Friend Connect (launched 2008, retired by March 1, 2012), and Orkut (launched in 2004, as of 2013 operated entirely by subsidiary Google Brazil – retired in September 2014).

Google+ launched in June 2011. Features included the ability to post photos and status updates to the stream or interest based communities, group different types of relationships (rather than simply "friends") into Circles, a multi-person instant messaging, text and video chat called Hangouts, events, location tagging, and the ability to edit and upload photos to private cloud-based albums.

Google (verb)

The transitive verbto google (also spelled Google) means using the Google search engine to obtain information on something or somebody on the World Wide Web. However, in many dictionaries the verb refers to using any web search engine, such as Yahoo! or Bing. A neologism arising from the popularity and dominance of the eponymous search engine, the American Dialect Society chose it as the "most useful word of 2002." It was added to the Oxford English Dictionary on June 15, 2006, and to the eleventh edition of the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary in July 2006. The first recorded usage of google used as a participle, thus supposing an intransitive verb, was on July 8, 1998, by Google co-founder Larry Page himself, who wrote on a mailing list: "Have fun and keep googling!" Its earliest known use (as a transitive verb) on American television was in the "Help" episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (October 15, 2002), when Willow asked Buffy, "Have you googled her yet?"

Topeka, Kansas

Topeka (/təˈpiːkə, toʊ-/;Kansa: Tó Pee Kuh) is the capital city of the State of Kansas and the seat of Shawnee County. It is situated along the Kansas River in the central part of Shawnee County, located in northeast Kansas, in the Central United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 127,473. The Topeka Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Shawnee, Jackson, Jefferson, Osage, and Wabaunsee counties, had a population of 233,870 in the 2010 census.

The name Topeka is a Kansa-Osage sentence that means "place where we dug potatoes", or "a good place to dig potatoes". As a placename, Topeka was first recorded in 1826 as the Kansa name for what is now called the Kansas River. Topeka's founders chose the name in 1855 because it "was novel, of Indian origin and euphonious of sound." The mixed-blood Kansa Native American, Joseph James, called Jojim, is credited with suggesting the name of Topeka. The city, laid out in 1854, was one of the Free-State towns founded by Eastern antislavery men immediately after the passage of the Kansas–Nebraska Bill. In 1857, Topeka was chartered as a city.

Dan (newspaper)

Dan (Serbian Cyrillic: Дан, pronounced [dâːn]; English: The Day) is a daily newspaper published in Montenegro. It took its name from the old day Cetinje monthly newspaper that was published in the old Montenegrin state at the beginning of the 20th century. As of 2009 it held the second place after Vijesti with a share of an estimated 31,6% of the country's total readers.

History and profile

The first issue of Dan appeared on 31 December 1999. Right from its start, Dan was one of the harshest critics of Milo Đukanović's regime in Montenegro. In May 2001, as Croatian magazine Nacional) began a series of articles and insider interviews on state-sponsored cigarette smuggling in Montenegro under Djukanovic's regime, Dan was the only media outlet in the country to bring the details of the 'Nacional affair' to the Montenegrin public.

On 27 May 2004 Dan founder and editor-in-chief Duško Jovanović was assassinated on a Podgorica street in front of the paper's offices. Even though a prolonged police investigation produced a couple of arrests, along with an immediate assassin-suspect currently on trial, the individuals behind the murder have still not been identified. It is alleged that the DPS-controlled government both sponsored and covered up the event.

Dan (cuneiform)

The cuneiform dan sign is a multi-use sign found in both the 14th century BC Amarna letters and the Epic of Gilgamesh. Besides dan, (and tan), the following are its uses (from Epic of Gilgamesh):

As sumerogram GURUŠ, it is only used for its Akkadian language meaning "eṭlu"-("young man"). Half of the spellings of eṭlu use GURUŠ combined with other signs, and half spell eṭlu alphabetically/syllabically. The quantities used for specific meanings of the sign, in the Epic of Gilgamesh are as follows: dan-(27), kal-(23), lab-(19), lap-(3), lép-(1), líb-(7), líp-(3), reb-(7), rib-(2), tan-(10), GURUŠ-(23).

Amarna letter use and "dan-is"

Combined with is, (is (cuneiform)), the Akkadian word dan-is, "danniš", meaning "greatly", "strongly", "fervently", etc. is used in the Amarna letters, especially from Mesopotamia, of Mitanni (King Tushratta), Babylon, and others. Tushratta's letter to Pharaoh, Amarna letter EA 19, Love and Gold uses many examples of danniš; also from Tushratta, EA 26 and EA 28.

Plus (telecommunications Poland)

Plus (formerly Plus GSM) is the brand name of Poland's mobile phone network operator, Polkomtel. The company is entirely owned by Spartan Capital Holdings sp. z o.o. It operates GSM (900/1800 MHz), UMTS and WLAN networks in Poland. It was founded 1995.

At the end of 2011, Plus had 13,698 million customers, including 6,576 million (47%) in prepaid system.

In July 2011, Zygmunt Solorz-Żak agreed to buy Polkomtel SA for 15.1 billion zlotys ($5.5 billion).
