Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.

The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his elder brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller" from his 1982 album Thriller, were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. The popularity of these videos helped to bring the then-relatively-new television channel MTV to fame. His 1987 album Bad spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", and "Dirty Diana", becoming the first album to have five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream", he continued to innovate the medium throughout the 1990s, as well as forging a reputation as a touring solo artist. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerous artists of various music genres.

The Midnight

The Midnight is the name of the third EP released by electronica duo Lemon Jelly, according to the insert of Lemonjelly.ky, on July 17, 2000. It was limited to 1,000 10" copies, the first 350 of which featured hand screen-printed sleeves. The tracks from the EP were later incorporated, for more accessible listening, into the critically acclaimed Lemonjelly.ky album. The cover had silver foil stamped on the inner sleeve and die-cut holes in the outer sleeve so when the record was pulled out of its sleeve, the stars twinkled in the night sky.

History

From 1998 to 2000, Franglen and Deakin released three limited-circulation EPs, The Bath (1998), The Yellow (1999), and The Midnight (2000), on their very own label, Impotent Fury. The EPs were a critical success, and led to the duo being signed to XL Recordings.

Korn III: Remember Who You Are

Korn III: Remember Who You Are is the ninth studio album by the American nu metal band Korn, released on July 13, 2010. Unlike Korn's following albums, the album was recorded as a four-piece band and using no Pro Tools or editing. Vocalist Jonathan Davis stated that the album is "simple" due to the absence of the multi-layered effect present in the band's other albums; Davis added that, the album is "about the vibe." The album features a return to their roots. The band hired producer Ross Robinson, who had produced Korn's first two albums, while drummer Ray Luzier was appointed a permanent member of the band (Luzier was formerly a "fill-in" drummer).

Background

Following the release of its untitled eighth album (July 2007) with Virgin Records, Korn embarked upon a ten-month hiatus, allowing band members to focus on solo projects.

Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer's side-project, Fear and the Nervous System, began recording a debut album. In July, Shaffer reported on the band's MySpace page that the album would not be released August 8, 2008 as previously mentioned. Bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu recorded guitars for StillWell's debut album Dirtbag. Davis recorded his first solo album along with his back-up band the SFA's who also backed Davis on his Alone I Play tour. StillWell's debut, Dirtbag, was released on May 10, 2011, while the remaining two solo albums were expected to be released sometime in 2011.

The Midnight Beast

The Midnight Beast, sometimes abbreviated as TMB, is a British comedy/parody music group from London. They are most famous for their YouTube cover-parody of the 2009 single "TiK ToK" by American pop artist Ke$ha. The group currently has three members: Stefan Abingdon, Dru Wakely and Ashley Horne.

Reception

The Midnight Beast had 424,324 subscribers and 71,761,413 views combined on their YouTube channel (as of March 2015), as well as 405,650 Facebook fans as of March 2014. The group's songs often appear on iTunes music charts with their recent album reaching Number Two in the iTunes Music charts, and their accompanying music videos routinely reaching over 1 million views on YouTube. On Christmas Day 2009, the "TiK ToK" parody was featured on the front page of MTV.com. The group has also made videos in collaboration with BBC Comedy and MTV Rocks.

The group has garnered praise from many of the artists that they have parodied. Both Ke$ha and Jay Sean have tweeted positive reactions to the parody of their respective songs, TiK ToK and Down, with Ke$ha stating "holy. shit. this is better than my version", and Jay Sean posting "Hahha brilliant. Someone should mix this with 'pants on the ground.'"
