Davanagere: Keeping with an age-old tradition of appeasing the rain god, the Sunday market being held at the APMC yard and near the clock tower in the city, will be temporarily shifted to the premises of Sri Durgambika Devi temple from July 24. Mayor Ashwini Prashanth and Davanagere City Corporation (DCC) commissioner, B H Narayanappa told reporters on Tuesday: "Holding market at the temple premises for five Sundays is an old tradition to appease the rain god. We are also following it. We request people and the traders to cooperate with DCC authorities,'' the mayor said.
The commissioner said the DCC officials have seized over 2.5 tonnes of banned plastic materials by conducting surprise raids on shops and business establishments in the city. "We want to make the city plastic free by August 15. The seized plastic will be used for asphalting city roads,'' he added.
