Lynn, Massachusetts

Lynn is a city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 90,329 at the 2010 census. An old industrial center, Lynn is home to Lynn Beach and Lynn Heritage State Park and is about 10 miles (16 km) north of downtown Boston. It is the largest city in Essex County.

History

17th century

The area known as Lynn was first settled in 1629 by Edmund Ingalls (d. 1648), followed by John Tarbox of Lancashire in 1631, whose descendants still reside in New England. The city was incorporated in 1631 as Saugus, the Nipmuck name for the area. The name Lynn was given to the area after King's Lynn, Norfolk, England, in honor of Samuel Whiting. A noteworthy colonist, Thomas Halsey left Lynn to settle the eastern end of Long Island and founded the town of Southampton New York. The Halsey House is the oldest frame house in the state of New York (1648), and along with the homestead it is open to the public and managed by the Southampton Colonial Society.

After Lynn's resettlement, many of its areas gradually separated into independent towns. Reading was created in 1644, Lynnfield in 1782, Saugus in 1815, Swampscott in 1852, and Nahant in 1853. Lynn was incorporated as a city in 1850.

Buena, New Jersey

Buena (pronounced /bjuːnə/ BYOO-nə) is a borough in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 4,603, reflecting an increase of 730 (+18.8%) from the 3,873 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn declined by 568 (-12.8%) from the 4,441 counted in the 1990 Census.

History

Charles K. Landis was a land developer who was the driving force behind the creation of Hammonton and Vineland. Landis also had a hand in establishing other small communities, including Landisville, in Buena Borough. He planned to make it county seat of a new county called Landis County, which would incorporate land from the surrounding counties. However, the locals were against this, and began calling him "King Landis".

Buena was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on September 1, 1948, from portions of Buena Vista Township. The borough was reincorporated on May 18, 1949. The borough derives its named from Buena Vista Township, which in turn was named for the 1847 Battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican–American War.

Buena (CTA station)

Buena was a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's Howard Line, which is now part of the Red Line. The station was located at Buena Street and Kenmore Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Buena was situated north of Sheridan and south of Wilson. Buena opened on May 31, 1900, and closed on August 1, 1949, along with 23 other stations as part of a CTA service revision.

Cosmibuena

Cosmibuena is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. The genus is native to Chiapas, Central America, and South America as far south as Brazil.

These are succulent shrubs and trees, often growing as epiphytes. The leaves are oppositely arranged. The inflorescence is a terminal cluster or sometimes a solitary flower. The flowers are large, showy, and fragrant. They are white, fading yellow. They open at night and dry out and die the next day. The fruit is a woody capsule containing papery winged seeds.

Fiesta (R. Kelly song)

"Fiesta (Remix)" is a number-one R&B single by singer R. Kelly and featuring rappers Jay-Z & Boo & Gotti. The hit song spent five weeks at number-one on the US R&B chart and peaked at number six on the US pop chart. R. Kelly and Jay-Z have worked several times together. In 2002, they released album "The Best of Both Worlds" which sold 285,000 copies in its first week. The single is ranked by Billboard as the best selling and most played R&B/Hip Hop song of 2001.
