Brussels-South (Dutch: Brussel-Zuid, French: Bruxelles-Midi, IATA code: ZYR) is the biggest railway station in Brussels, capital of Belgium. As Brussels is a bilingual entity, both the French and Dutch names are official. This often leads to the usage of combined shorthands outside Belgium: for example in the Thomas Cook European Rail Timetable, Brussels-South is designated as "Brussels Midi/Zuid"; Dutch Railways announce the station as "Brussel Zuid/Midi". 1,000 trains pass every day between Brussels-South and Brussels-North railway stations. The station is connected to the Gare du Midi/Zuidstation station of the Brussels Metro system.
A former station known as Station des Bogards/Bogaardenstation existed since 1840 near the Place Rouppeplein in the southern part of the city. It was demolished 29 years later as it was already too small. The railway station designed by Payen opened in 1869 a short distance south of the original one. Payen's terminal station was itself demolished in 1949 and replaced by a through station on the present site as part of the North-South connection project.
Wow this took longer than it should have, but here it is. The day before my cruise to the Bahamaa, I traveled to NY from South Station. Since I had time to kill between my commuter and the Northeast Regional, I decided to film a few things at the station. Not much, just a few arrivals and one departure. Also got some Rotems and a Boston Strong unit. Enjoy!

This is my first train trip video. I took the Amtrak Acela Express from Boston, MA South Station to New York City, NY Penn Station. This is a very amazing and fast train. It is as fast as a European Train. Sorry if some parts of the video are blurry. This camera has awful focus in the dark.
On National Train Day (May 7th 2011) i went into Boston and i looked around South Station for about 2 hours. I took a tour on an Acela Express, got some free stuff from Amtrak and took lots of photos and videos throughout the morning. I also caught the Lake Shore Limited departing South Station at around 11:55am and many more trains. Enjoy
Various Amtrak and MBTA trains at Boston's South Station and Ruggles. If the MBTA does a free ride day like they did last year, I will possibly look into going all the way down to Providence for a day...

Whilst in Europe we decided to take the Eurostar over to Brussels in nearby Belgium. Two hours and across the channel into France later, we arrive here, at Brussels Midi/Zuid station. There are actually three large train stations in Brussels, Brussels Nord (north), Brussels Central (middle) and Brussels Midi (south). Most new visitors to Brussels confuse Brussels Central with Brussels Midi since it has "mid" in the name, but "midi" is actually French for "south".

Travel from Brussels to London via Lille, Calais, and Ebbsfleet in around 13 minutes. On the 5th of February, 2012, after visiting a sibling in Brussels, I jumped on a Eurostar train from Gare de Bruxelles-Midi to St Pancras International. This video summarises the journey, which was around 2.5 hours long, into around 13 minutes. There were short stopovers at Lille, Calais, and Ebbsfleet on the way. See some of the photos I took, while I was in Brussels, at the following address. http://j.mp/YjhMLl For another journey on the Eurostar, this time from London to Paris, go to the address below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1wI_UK-hgg
(To continue to Cologne, see here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDjzh5FBvB8 ) This is a ride on Eurostar 9126, the 10:58 departure from London St. Pancras to Brussels Midi, with intermediate stops at Ebbsfleet and Lille. We begin our journey at London St. Pancras, next door to London Kings Cross on Euston Road. Our Eurostar is 373211/373212, a GEC-Alstom built Class 373 Eurostar built in 1991-1992. The power cars are sporting the new livery, while the carriages are still sporting the old livery and interior. Due to a delay at the entrance to the channel tunnel on the UK side, we arrive into Brussels Midi approximately twenty minutes late, leaving me just five minutes to catch my connecting service! (I did catch it, but due to the significant delay I had to sacrifice any chance of getti...

A quick ride on the MBTA commuter rail from Braintree to South Station with intermediate stops at Quincy Center and JFK/UMASS.
A little grainier than my last video (I guess I need a better camera for night time shots), but I still like it. Includes the occasional sound of trains as they come into and leave the station.
