Home to a widely diverse number of plant and animal species, some of which can only be found on the island, Santa Rosa Island has seen the comings and goings of Pygmy Mammoths, native Chumash indians, European explorers, sea otter hunters, Chinese abalone fishermen, Spanish Missionaries, Mexican and American ranchers and the US military.
We explore parts of this scenic island such as Lobo Canyon, Cherry Canyon, Water Canyon Beach, and Torrey Pines Trails.

In early December 2013, we took Venture to the Channel Islands, the closest of which is only 20 miles from the sprawling city of Los Angeles. Despite their proximity to this major population center and the busy ports of Long Beach and LA, these islands are uninhabited by humans and are protected wildlife sanctuaries. The weather can be unpredictable and extreme as we found out during our short cruise.

Santa Rosa Island camping and hiking for five nights and six days in August 2015. Featuring Bechers Bay, Water Canyon Beach, Torrey Pines, Cherry Canyon, Lobo Canyon, Carrington Point, some relics from the past and more. We had strong winds non-stop for the first couple of days, but the winds died providing absolutely gorgeous weather. We fall more in love with Santa Rosa Island on every trip. The island is part of the Channel Island National Park. Transportation is provided by Island Packers (Islandpackers.com). Filmed with GoPro. Polecam by Sandmarc.

Channel Islands
The Channel Islands (Norman: Îles d'la Manche, French: Îles Anglo-Normandes or Îles de la Manche) are an archipelago in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy. They include two Crown dependencies, both of which are bailiwicks: the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey. They are considered the remnants of the Duchy of Normandy, and although they are not part of the United Kingdom, it is responsible for the defence and international relations of the islands. They have a total population of about 168,000 and their respective capitals, Saint Helier and Saint Peter Port, have populations of 33,500 and 16,488, respectively. The total area of the islands is 198 km2.
Both Bailiwicks have been administered separately since the late 13th century; each has its own independent laws, elections, and representative bodies (although in modern times, politicians from the islands' legislatures are in regular contact). Any institution common to both is the exception rather than the rule.

We had strong winds non-stop for the first couple of days, but the winds died providing absolutely gorgeous weather. We fall more in love with Santa Rosa Island on every trip. The island is part of the Channel Island National Park. Transportation is provided by Island Packers (Islandpackers.com). Filmed with GoPro. Polecam by Sandmarc.
