Star Ocean (スターオーシャン, Sutā Ōshan) is a franchise of action role-playing video games developed by the Japanese company tri-Ace and published and owned by Square Enix (originally Enix).
As fans of science fiction and space travel, the developers at tri-Ace created the Star Ocean series with a sci-fi setting in mind and have cited Star Trek as one of their main influences for the visuals of the games as well as being an underlying, but noticeable, influence to the series as a whole. While the first Star Ocean game included more fantasy elements to appeal to a broad audience, subsequent installments naturally moved towards a more sci-fi oriented feel, with Star Ocean: Till the End of Time described by its producer Yoshinori Yamagishi as tri-Ace's "ultimate vision" of the "whole Star Ocean world". The large gap of time between Star Ocean: The Second Story and Till the End of Time, in terms of in-universe chronology, can be explained by the series' choice to emphasize the setting of its fictional world rather than focus on its characters.
Star Ocean (スターオーシャン, Sutā Ōshan) is a Japanese action role-playing video game and the first game in the Star Ocean series. It was the first game developed by the newly formed tri-Ace company for the Super Famicom video game console, consisting of staff that had previously left Wolf Team due to being unhappy with the development process for Tales of Phantasia with Namco in 1995. The game was ahead of its time in many respects. It required a special compression chip in its cartridge to compress and store all of the game's data due to possessing graphics that pushed the limits of the aging Super Nintendo system. Additionally, the game had voice acting for the game's intro and voice clips that played during the game's battle gameplay, a rarity for games on the system.
The game was published and released by Enix in 1996 in Japan, but was never released outside Japan in this form, due to Enix closing its American branch shortly before the game was finished, and Nintendo's focus on supporting the then-upcoming Nintendo 64 video game console. However, the game was later remade for the PlayStation Portable under the title Star Ocean: First Departure (スターオーシャン1 ファースト ディパーチャー, Sutā Ōshan 1 Fāsuto Dipāchā), and released in English-speaking regions in North America, Europe, and Australia in October, 2008.
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (スターオーシャン3, Sutā Ōshan Surī, Star Ocean 3) is the third main game in the Star Ocean series. The game was developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 2 console. It was released in Japan, North America, and the PAL territories. The original Japanese release date was in February 2003 by Enix, its penultimate release before its merger to become Square Enix. It was re-released in 2004 as a two-disc Director's Cut version with bonus features such as new characters and dungeons. The North American and European versions are based on the Director's Cut version.Till the End of Time takes place four hundred years after the events of Star Ocean: The Second Story.
The universe of Star Ocean is science fiction in nature, although like the first two games in the series, much of the plot is set on an "underdeveloped planet." It features a galaxy-spanning government in the Pangalactic Federation, several races and species of aliens, different factions, multiple colonized planets, and advanced technology. But despite this science fiction atmosphere, a form of magic exists in the universe: symbology, also translated as heraldry in the Japanese version and in Star Ocean: The Second Story. Standard symbology involves tattooing crests and runes onto one's flesh to draw out apparently latent power in the form of spells, and numerous underdeveloped planets make extensive use of it. Despite its supernatural connotations, Symbology is treated as a legitimate field of scientific study in-universe.
take a look at all the sheep grazing
take a look at yourself, you're crazy
take for granted that you'll always have solutions
take for granted in your own delusion
i thought i had everything i wanted
i saw first hand, a life adjusted
compromised and poliltized
watch us all fall from the sky
all fall in line
i thought i had everything i wanted
i saw first hand, the errors i have entrusted
follow the reason
it's open season
look to me for guidance, what a joke?
if life was so perfect, no hope
no hope
mindless and grazing
complacent and lazy
if you think for a moment our world, contained?
media draws blood, blood on our culture
be let be fail and link the chain
be the fool and fall in line
stand alone and be yourself for once
fuck you average whore!
