York is a great city to visit in Northern England and York Minster should be tops on your list when visiting. The Minster boasts a great collection of Medieval stained glass and gothic carvings. The climb to the top of the minster tower is well worth the effort too as there are great views to be had over the city.

BBC TV programme broadcast on 16 October 1996 to mark the 70th anniversary of the long-running BBC Radio series “Choral Evensong”. Featuring the choir of York Minster, directed by Philip Moore, and introduced by Joanna Trollope. Organ: John Scott Whiteley.
The anthem appears to have been left out of the broadcast, possibly for reasons of length, so this is not quite a complete Evensong.

The Cathedral is located on the north edge of the old town in a beautiful setting.
Right next to the church you'll find Deans Park, a tranquil patch of greenery ideal for taking a break – maybe sit on a bench or spread out on the grass and relax for a while.
Built on the site of the first Roman settlement, the church owes its origins to an early Saxon king, Edwin, who married a Christian queen and converted to Christianity in the year 627. To commemorate his baptism he built a small wooden church on the site of the Minster. Much later a series of larger stone churches were constructed, one after the other, including a vast Norman church in the Romanesque style, and then finally, the Minster.

Up up up. The well-worn thousand year old stone stairs spiraled forever up. On either side; impenetrable thick stone walls. Behind us; the thundering hordes. Turning back now would mean certain defeat. Our only hope of victory lay in fighting our way to the top. Two hundred and seventy five steps in all.
And yet, as we continuously fought our way upward, we were denied the aid of smoking or lighting of matches. The authorities had declared them, "STRICTLY FORBIDDEN."
One lady, somewhat older, couldn't keep up with the pack. She paused, breathless, and waved me on. I had to stay with my family. What else could I do? Did she make it? I don't know. I never saw her again.
Halfway up, we came across an opening in the wall leading to a narrow ledge. With mere inches separating us from a five story plunge to our left, we managed to cut across to another tower. But it wasn't enough to throw the hordes off our trail. They kept coming.
Eventually I made it to the top. But had everyone in our group made it? At first I wasn't sure. We had become separated along the way. I looked from one person to another, searching anxiously for the members of our group. Finally all were present and accounted for. Now we could relax and enjoy the spoils of victory. It was a hard fought battle.
But. We. Had. Won.

York
York (
i/ˈjɔːrk/) is a historic walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England, and is the traditional county town of Yorkshire to which it gives its name. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events in England throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities making it a popular tourist destination for millions.
The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD. It became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Northumbria and Jórvík. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre and became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England, a role it has retained.
In the 19th century, York became a hub of the railway network and a confectionery manufacturing centre. In recent decades, the economy of York has moved from being dominated by its confectionery and railway-related industries to one that provides services. The University of York and health services have become major employers, whilst tourism has become an important element of the local economy.

York Minster
The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. The minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office of the Church of England, and is the cathedral for the Diocese of York. It is run by a dean and chapter, under the Dean of York. The title "minster" is attributed to churches established in the Anglo-Saxon period as missionary teaching churches, and serves now as an honorific title. Services in the minster are sometimes regarded as on the High Church or Anglo-Catholic end of the Anglican continuum.
The minster has a very wide Decorated Gothic nave and chapter house, a Perpendicular Gothic Quire and east end and Early English North and South transepts. The nave contains the West Window, constructed in 1338, and over the Lady Chapel in the east end is the Great East Window, (finished in 1408), the largest expanse of medieval stained glass in the world. In the north transept is the Five Sisters Window, each lancet being over 52 feet (16 m) high. The south transept contains a rose window, while the West Window contains a heart-shaped design colloquially known as 'The Heart of Yorkshire'.

Up up up. The well-worn thousand year old stone stairs spiraled forever up. On either side; impenetrable thick stone walls. Behind us; the thundering hordes. Turning back now would mean certain defeat. Our only hope of victory lay in fighting our way to the top. Two hundred and seventy five steps in all.
And yet, as we continuously fought our way upward, we were denied the aid of smoking or lighting of matches. The authorities had declared them, "STRICTLY FORBIDDEN."
One lady, somewhat older, couldn't keep up with the pack. She paused, breathless, and waved me on. I had to stay with my family. What else could I do? Did she make it? I don't know. I never saw her again.
Halfway up, we came across an opening in the wall leading to a narrow ledge. With mere inches separating us from a five story plunge to our left, we managed to cut across to another tower. But it wasn't enough to throw the hordes off our trail. They kept coming.
Eventually I made it to the top. But had everyone in our group made it? At first I wasn't sure. We had become separated along the way. I looked from one person to another, searching anxiously for the members of our group. Finally all were present and accounted for. Now we could relax and enjoy the spoils of victory. It was a hard fought battle.
But. We. Had. Won.

Need to get around? Rent a bike! I have yet to try this but it seems fabulous! Save your feet and cover more ground. These bikes and bike spots are all over the city. A perfect way to burn calories and see more of the city faster.

Summer in NYC isn't really summer until you get your butt on a rooftop. My pick was Jimmy Rooftop. Sunday's after 3pm are bomb! Amazing music courtesy of DJ Cato. I believe it is doorman discretion, which means, dress your best and don't travel with a bunch of dudes. You get an amazing view of the sun setting over the Hudson River and you get to splash around in the pool if you so choose. I chose this spot because I used to work here and loved it!

Yes! Go to Church! After you party it up Saturday night or Sunday afternoon bring your sinful behind to this awesome church! You don't have to be religious to attend. This is a non-denominal church and people from all over the world come here for the amazing sermons and not to mention the interior. This Church is a converted theatre and a must see. Now go and pray!

Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Manhattan Island is the city’s most well known district and the Rockefeller Center in Midtown is often referred to as the heart of the New York. Nearby the Roman Catholic Saint Patrick´s Cathedral is the largest and most magnificent church in the United States. The Grand Central Terminal divides Park Avenue and is a huge station with which the railroad kings, the Venderbilts, left an indelible mark. The huge hall, with its magnificent vaulted ceiling in Beaux Arts style, has been the city’s central railway station for twelve lines since 1913. The confines of Chinatown are inhabited by a hundred and fifty thousand Chinese from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, most of whom are unable to speak a word of English. Chinese characters wherever one looks and restaurants and Asian stores on every street corner. The famous Wall Street was named after a wall which in the early days protected the growing city against attack by Native American Indians. However, the roots of its subsequent claim to fame were laid in 1792. The young state desperately needed investment and therefore the powers that be decided to issue bonds. Close by, on a small island, is New York’s most famous landmark, the Statue Of Liberty. The head of Lady Liberty leads to the crown from which there are stunning views from several windows. New York City is most certainly unique. A city that’s very much alive and kicking, self-confident and always a surprise!

In the early 19th century the grand architecture of York Minster was an enigma. But then in 1829 "the voice of God" drove Jonathan Martin to burn the cathedral down. While locals became obsessed with finding and punishing the perpetrator, architect John Browne became equally enthralled by the secrets the decimated structure began to reveal.
