Interview with Singer/Songwriter Justin Cross

Welcome to "The Struggle" with yet another positive and encouraging interview! I feel very fortunate to have Skyped recently with this up-and-coming musician, Mr. Justin C. Cross from North Carolina. I will give you one guess as to who suppressed his musical talent, left his guitar in a corner, and focused on door knocking and being a good Jehovah's Witness for many years, until his talent and passion couldn't be contained any longer! His Bio reads in part: --------------------------------------------------------------------- JC once lived by the rules society expected of him. He had the wife, house, and career. In the wake of divorce, spending nights sleeping on a cold piece of plywood strung across naked floor joists, Justin met eyes with a guitar he hadn’t touched in 9 years. He knew he wasn’t fulfilling his purpose in life. He left a decade of lies with a comfy check, for the uncertain future of his musical teenage dreams. After a multi-year hiatus of being banned from what he loved, he picked up his guitar and began to write like a madman. He arrived. He released a 5 song EP in 2014, which received national airplay on 37 stations throughout the US, in 32 states. His song “Let me in”, peaked at #4 in heavy rotation on San Antonio’s top 100 records played, ahead of Jack White and Beck. He’s already performed packed shows in Charlotte, and created a buzz in Raleigh, performing at venues like The Pour House and Tir Na Nog. His most noticeable live shows include headlining the SPARKcon music festival in Raleigh, and Hopscotch Music Festival, headlined by St. Vincent and De La Soul. Once you hear and see him perform you will understand that this man has a special gift that is FINALLY being appreciated by society. (But not The Watchtower Society!) It's worth mentioning that this interview in many ways is different from some done on The Struggle in the past. It focuses not on his upbringing and years as a brainwashed JW like most of us on JWStruggle used to be, but rather on the aftermath of his disfellowshipping and rise from the ashes. Justin's new EP will be released this summer, and a 22 city tour will ensue shortly thereafter. A treat for his fans (and all you subscribers!) is included in the interview, as he debuts an acoustic version of one of his new songs from the EP. I wish he would add more far flung venues (and coastlines) to his tour, but Justin has assured me that that is in the works, as he has fans all over the United States already.
