If we look at the world today we're living in the best era to become successful.
We have the best possible tools, knowledge and everything at out disposal in a blink of an eye.
Smart phones are getting smarter, apps are getting faster and we have opportunities to learn on every corner.
Despite all of these advances most people still aren't able to master their health, and not only that, obesity is rising every single year.
How is this possible? It doesn't make any logical sense.
However, if you look at it there's 2 ways to solve a problem:
1 - Reduce the friction to start taking action with easily accessible tools. i.e. You have better apps on your smart phone that help you track your calories and make the process of staying in a calorie deficit very easier. Or you have tools like FitBit that allow you to keep track of how active you are.
Now, these tools are amazing, cheap (even free) but most people still don't take action.
2 -
Become mentally stronger and find the solution with whatever you have. i.e.
Change your mindset and the way you look at the world.
Understand how exercise and health are an integral part and an evolutionary need as a human being.
The #2, having a stronger mindset will almost always beat having better tools.
If you think about it people have been successful with weight loss for decades and centuries through a simple mindset change.
They didn't need MyFitnessPal, FitBits or any fancy tools. Of course these tools might have helped them get better results but they were still successful.
It's the good old "Where there's a will there's a way."
Making yourself a tougher person with a strong mindset will allow you to successfully navigate through life no matter what.
And it doesn't matter what problem you encounter, you'll find a solution to solve it. That's the type of person you want to be.
In today's world there's a big miss-match.
We've evolved to move and not we've engineered all these environments that don't require any physical activity.
More and more things are becoming automated, and we need to do less and less.
Since the industrial revolution we went from being active for 10 hours a day 6-7 days a week to having to force ourselves to exercise 4-5 hours a week.
And exercise is the best case scenario, most people don't even do that.
It doesn't take much to see the negative effects of this.
Obesity epidemic is exploding.
Often people talk about exercise in the context of boosting your health. How does that make sense?
Does it make more sense that we've evolved to move and that the lack of movement that is causing problems.
I'm amazed how even the smartest people forge to realize that movement is our default state, it's what we've been designed for.
Honestly I'm impressed how good our bodies do with so little exercise, sitting all day, eating so much junk food and getting very little sleep.
Of course it's not just about movement, we've also evolved to go through periods of feast and famine.
And now we have at least 10 000 kcal worth of food readily available to us in the convenience of our homes.
Not just any food, but highly palatable tasty food that bypass our natural defenses with hunger
.
We're no longer eating food as fuel to
function in the world but we're looking at it as a source of instant pleasure.
Without continuing my range (I could go on all day) the
point is that you need to take control of this deliberately.
And the first step is to change the way you at the world, to shift your mindset.
Mindset change will always be more powerful than any new app or device that comes out.
Start aligning your environment and habits with fundamental human needs: frequent movement (walking, doing this with your hands, moving around), eating real unprocessed food and getting quality sleep.
Let me know in the comments how you resonated with this.
